Political Division In The US: Intro

in communication •  7 years ago

Throughout the semesters of taking classes in the areas of psychology, sociology, and communications. I have notice the many aspects of this division in the country that i want to share and hopefully get others opinions . This first post will be short and will start out with the topic of the Backfire effect. The simple definition is, "The backfire effect is a name for the finding that, given evidence against their beliefs, people can reject the evidence and believe even more strongly", from a google search.
The reason I start with this because, as an individual, we should notice our mindset when listening to someone else view and allowing understanding before making any definitive decision to what we agree or disagree with. The rise of this post truth nation is fueling that psychological habit we have as people. With people being able to fall back with the backfire effect onto this concept, of fake news or alternative facts, we are now in a situation where listening to others view or ideas has turned into a division. A place where, if you don't agree, you are in the opposing side.

Overall I want to just set a feeling and attitude to be open and try to understand these conflicts and maybe take a look at our own beliefs once in a while an keep ourselves in check. I will begin part one of this later this week.
