Why Follow When You Will Not Read Or Upvote The Post, The Importance For Building A community You Can Trust

in community-development •  7 years ago  (edited)

In a community, growing a good relationship matters a lot. On steemit, you know you are growing your community base on the number of followers and following you have.

First and foremost, let me explain a few things that you need to know.

FOLLOWERS

Most people do not see reasons to be followed. The amount of followers you have is equivalent to the number of subscribers you have to your blog since your followers get feeds on every of your post either you are online or not. In that case, It's important to always share and post contents of value to the community so as to get more followers. Sharing valuable content on regular basis draw attention of other steemians to your blog and increasing your followers.

FOLLOWINGS

These are the blogs you decide to follow and read up on contents you like and also do not want to miss when you are offline. Post from this steemians show on your feed and the right thing to do is to go through them, upvote and probably resteem.

WHY WOULD YOU FOLLOW A BLOG YOU CANNOT UPVOTE ITS POST

Upvotes and resteems are like gold to steemians. and each steemian with 100 followers expect that 40% of his followers upvote his/her post but instead, barely thus 5% of a post upvote come from the followers.

So i ask, Why follow a blog you cannot upvote the post?

If a blog is not worth your upvote due to the rather poor posts from such post, or because you don't get what interests you, then why don't you unfollow such blog instead of keeping such a person with the hope that his/her followers will read and upvote when they post.

WHY YOU ARE NOT FOLLOWED ON STEEMIT

Everyone have their preference so i would be speaken base on my point of view

I read every post that is important or worth spending time on either a travel blog, food journal, science-fiction, science, medicine, cryptocurrency, technology, art and many more but i would not even bother to open a post that is not more than 5 - 10 words (I call them Steemit tweets). I would not read post showing your dog's picture and not knowing anything interesting about the picture.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO

If you have a lot of irrelevant following creating unnecessary feeds on your home page, then i would advice you do this simple things.

  • Go to your feed and check out the post there

  • If they are not your specs or do not meet up to your expectations, maybe they are not things you are interested in, then i would advice you click the Unfollow Button

By doing these things, you would be able to upvote those who really need your votes and upvoting on steemit gives you a chance to earn rewards known as the CURATION REWARD

I also welcome comments, critics and contributions on my posts. Also if you believe there is a way i can improve my blog and post, please your advice would be welcome. I am a product of continuous learning and i hope to keep learning.

I do that from the beginning, otherwise I cannot see my favourite authors. But still there is so much stuff I am not interested in, because people resteem so much. And these resteems are nothing I am interested in. Sometimes it is horrible.

That's another thing. With resteems, what the person feels it's okay might not be to his/her followers

Another problem is that people post about anything. For example, I am interested in crafts, arts, travel/cultures and food. So, I follow a blog that has one of the subjects I like. But still there is 70% posts that I am not interested in. And these posts cover the posts I am interested in. That is why I look in my favourite blogs every second day to see if they posted something interesting for me.

that's actually a good one. At least you read your feeds.

If every steemian read their feed, then we would not have problems with disseminating information and getting more traffic to our blogs

Good piece. Folks need to evaluate and engage in what is appealing to their person. its not in the number of followers or the following but in the content that gets attention and upvotes. The following gives you likely viewers but the content must be worth the potential engagement. Are you in OAU?

I completely agree. If only the Steemit community worked that way. Sadly people are people and often they do not make sense. I only follow certain people. Thanks for sharing my friend. - Troy

thanks troy, i really hope steemians learn to do the right things

It's so important to build community here on Steemit. I make an active effort to read my feed and to actively comment on and upvote my followers and those I follow as much as I possibly can. Aside from that I look at what's new and upvote and curate to encourage new people. We can only do so much though, so as you point out, we have to focus on following people whose content interests us.

Thanks for being a good steemian. Keep steeming friend

Good advice, thanks following

A lot of people on steemit just follows anyone, I think you should only follow who add value to the community as well as yourself.
