I have never taking a ride in an Uber and thought I paid less than I should have for a ride. Maybe that’s because I mainly walk or take the bus for my commute to work and elsewhere. I still think the prices don’t make much sense to begin with. There was a time in New York where you would see someone offering rides to people coming out of the train station. The prices were usually either $5 or $10 depending on where you wanted to go.
Nowadays, rideshare services like Uber and Lyft get all the attention for creating this idea and making it work for everybody. And, it’s dominating the U.S. to the point where they plan to gauge what you can and should pay for a ride. Uber will be testing their “route-based pricing” system starting in 14 cities.
Uber plans on utilizing a system with learning capabilities to determine estimates. The amount you will pay will be based on the route you choose and the time of day.
So, in other words, if you have to go to a court building from the train for example, you would be paying more. Then say, someone going from their house to a local restaurant.
Bloomberg reported that if you're traveling from one ritzy neighborhood to the next, your fare is going to be higher. than if you were going from a ritzy area to a less desirable one, your fare will be less.
Uber has so many problems it’s really hard to narrow it down and only pick on this one issue. Uber drivers don’t really care about the pricing because they already believe in Uber not telling the truth to drivers about the price they give riders.
Uber claims it will now tell drivers how much each passenger pays for a ride, but it won’t break down how much the company actually takes in. Meanwhile they're saying, they only take what’s leftover from the driver’s portion of the fare.
When it comes to this new pricing system Uber is putting in place, it could definitely be better. Especially, when it comes to transparency for the drivers. But it can also be worse, by increasing the difference in the amount of drivers in a given area, due to it making more financial sense for drivers to work in an area with more money flowing through it.
Tal vez Uber pueda ser una fuente de trabajo y de ingreso estable cuando superen todos los problemas. Buen punto de vista el tuyo @colormesensei
