Our gaze is so important. Even giving people air time can be detrimental to the global and local communities we want to build. You know where I give my time at @naturalmedicine of course, that kinda speaks for itself.

Sadly, in real life, the political voting options are pretty blah. Seems you vote for one narcisstic weakling or another.

I am a big believer in boycotts, for example, not buying brands who use palm oil. When I talk to the students about it at my school, they think I'm just a mad hippy. It's always self interest over the environment, apart from the odd few kids who are strongly principled. I presume they'll grow a moral core, but not entirely sure when, or how many of them.

Loved this article - @mountainjewel told me to read the sociopath/psycho one, but I've only just gotten time - headed that way now.

xx

Great suggestion of boycotting unethically sources brands. Actually you may really enjoy my post from today on Native Americans codefying their traditional food methods to be on par with US federal law on their reservations.

Interesting thing with young people. In a certain portion of their childhood they are all generous saints with keenly attuned senses of right and wrong. Then somewhere in their teens they all seem to become incredibly self-absorbed and emotionally cut off from themselves at the same time.

Thankfully, for many it is just a face, and in adulthood the moral training of their early years reasserts itself. Keep up the good work!

Ha, yes, I agree - teenagers are funny critters. They get so self centred for a while there, and then they emerge quite decent for the most part. I look at my son and his girlfriend being all vegan and recycling and so on and it was only a few years ago they were grunting in a fug of teen sweat in their isolated rooms not caring about anything. Lol - bless em. Ooh, really interested in that post! I'm going to head off to work now, but I have lots of thoughts racing around my head! haven't had the impetus or motivation to write anything at lenght for a while, perhaps I will this week.

I think that Steem being the social experiment it is on the blockchain can add a layer of accountability which can help identify these issues and come up with solutions to improve situations. Given how this and many other protocols will be tokenized, the incentive system will be aligned to help this becoming increasingly adopted in society that will increasingly be connected via blockchain ecosystems.

I hope we can provide an example of it working, at least. We’re certainly trying to.

Looking even at here on the blockchain. How do you see this platform working to protect healthy community norms?

i actually don't see that happening at least in most cases. There are a lot of individuals that try to maintain a healthy balance in here but as i see it in a way the whole blogging aspect of steemit (which was/is very healthy for me) is steadily going down!

Is there anything more you'd like to see done, speaking of specific actions to be taken?

I want more attention towards Steemit and the blogging aspect, a better interface, bid-bots restriction, abuse restriction, older posts reward system.

Imagine that after hf20 if you reward a comment by 0,01 cent (that most people have this days) it goes back to reward pool :P you need 0,02 and more

Yes, it was actually a .02 dust threshold before, but steem was worth more, so it was easier for more people to give that.

I too notice that engagement is diminishing on here. I think interest in crypto in general is diminishing among the general public. I wish the exploiters would lose interest, but they seem to hang in there. We must too and keep creating and curating.

And thinking about ways to keep improving opportunity for more people on here.

People are missing the whole point that this industry works in exponential effects. Last one was when Steem went from $0.07 to stable $0.3+, the next movement will be +0.3 to $5 stable. You will never see the exponential effect coming either. Literally every single human will come back + more when there is more value in the system. So engagement will go by price effects.

In today's times, it is more important than ever to promote protecting our communities and the environment.
