Helping injured and homeless animals, an amazing story and a way to help with Steemit.[English]

in community •  7 years ago

There are many animals suffering but also many people helping them. We share the stories of wonderful and compassionate people who give genuinely care for animals in distress. 100% of the money from upvotes received on each of our publications will be donated to help the recovery of the animal behind each story.

So what is Let’s TeamUp about?

Dear Steemians,

We are happy to introduce our ‘Let’s TeamUp’ project to the amazing Steemit community.

The idea is to raise funds through Steemit and donate it to help animals in need —injured, ill or homeless animals—. Our team has gathered wonderful stories about people actively involved in animal rescue and care and we want to propose how
Steemians can support them with a simple action as voting, sharing or following our stories.

The whole idea of creating an organization or a movement to benefit animals was discussed some time ago by some members of our team. As we develop the idea, each of us was helping out however we could: taking stray dogs to sterilization days, facilitating adoption for abandoned animals or feeding those we could.

But beyond the “fieldwork”, we also have been changing habits in our lifestyles to support actions for animal welfare. For example, we follow a vegetarian/vegan diet and we also look out for products that have minimal impact on ecosystems. Thus, each one of us committed to undertake every action we could —and those which our resources allowed us— to help animals in need.

Either way, we all agreed that the most difficult task was to assist injured, ill and abandoned animals. The experiences that each member of Let’s TeamUp has faced have made us realise the huge effort involved in helping animals in these terrible conditions. It takes time, money to apply necessary treatments for recovery, room to take care of them, professional help and, in many cases, a quest for a home and a family who loves and takes care of them. With a full-time job and other responsibilities, we understand why money and other resources —such as time or room— can be a huge constraint for many people longing to help animals.

How could we make this no longer a problem for all people with the desire to help? How could we support all those who are already helping?

We heard about Steemit. The concept of this social network seemed fantastic to us, particularly for its visionary perspective. For most of us, all concepts were completely new: cryptocurrency, blockchain, SteemPower, SteemDollars… all kinds of doubts about these new terms arose. But realising the great potential of Steemit to generate social impact in a completely innovative way was what motivated us to immerse ourselves in this social network and learn everything about it.

Inspired by the kind intentions of thousands of people longing to help animals, but whose conditions, responsibilities or lifestyle do not allow them to contribute as much as they want, the idea of Let's TeamUp came up: a space in which the blockchain technology is used so that the good intentions of people willing to help can become into real actions that support those engaged in animal care and protection ... and all thanks to a simple task as voting, sharing or following our stories.

How are we going to help?

Our idea is that the money (SteemDollars) we receive through votes or direct donations will become concrete resources that will be donated to people actively engaged in animal rescue and care. In this way, we give the opportunity for anyone to contribute to this cause, without factors such as time or money limiting their goodwill.

It’s easy: just by following us, upvoting or making a resteem of each story we publish, we get the money we need to give it as a donation to people who need funds to help animals in distress.

What impact does your contribution have?

The recovery of injured, ill, or abandoned animals is the result of the joint and active participation of all the people who join Let's TeamUp project:

the generosity of the Steemians who support us;
the dedication of those who rescue and care for animals;
and the motivation of those who work to connect them and transform good intentions into actions.

Just by upvoting, making a resteem or following our publications, you can help improve the lives of many animals in distress, as well as giving support to those who work hard to look after them for their recovery.

A real-life inspiring example

Carol and Lidia are two friends who live in a town in Guatemala that has grown over time. Despite many improvements came along with the increasing urbanization, there is still a huge problem: the uncontrolled population of dogs living on the street. Seeing the conditions faced by these animals —such as hunger, cold, lack of affection and shelter— has inspired their will to act and reduce their suffering. Among many of the initiatives Carol and Lidia have undertaken, one is to take stray dogs to sterilization days. The problem was that these days took place in a village that’s nearly an hour’s drive from where they live. Besides, the sterilization days were conducted only a few times during the year.

That’s how Carol and Lidia decided to organize a mini sterilization day in their neighborhood. They contacted Joselito, Fernanda and Alejandro. Their experience working in sterilization days in rural areas of Guatemala made them the ideal candidates for this task, in which they must recreate the necessary conditions with resources at their disposal… and with great ingenuity. Carol and Lidia got all the essential assets required for the veterinary team to do their work; they, in turn, took all their medical tools in their mobile clinic.

perritaflacaP01.jpg

Last Saturday, August 26, Carol and Lidia, along with the veterinary team, managed to sterilize five dogs from the neighborhood. Although this amount does not compare with the dozens of animals that are sterilized in a typical sterilization day organized by a municipality or any other institution, the **initiative of this generous people avoided the suffering of many dogs that would otherwise have been born without a home. Now, Carol and Lidia are planning to organize another sterilization day to help other dogs in the area.

Can you imagine how much benefit we can provide by supporting people like Carol and Lidia? Find out about this and other cases in our following publications.

Now, if you identify with our work and would like to join our cause, let us explain what steps you must take to help.

Like any team, each of Let's TeamUp members contribute with different skills: some in the technical area; others, handling each case; and some, writing publications. What motivates us to perform our tasks as best as we can is the love we have for animals, and the admiration for the people who help them. We have all adopted some dog or cat that once lived on the street. We are currently five members, but we hope that more people who share our cause can join the project wherever they may be.

Jairo. Our expert member of technology and a collaborator in the technical and creative area. He enjoys watching and live together with marine life while surfing. He adopted one dog: Pepper.

Carol. She Works in the health area and collaborates by managing the cases of animals that need help. She lives with five cats and four dogs she rescued. Carol enjoys admiring nature when hiking in volcanoes.

Ale. As a tourism student, she has a great interest in undertaking projects of sustainable tourism. She collaborates managing the cases of animals. Ale also lives with five cats and four dogs she rescued.

Lidia. As a biology teacher, she has an impressive knowledge of animals. She also supports in case management. Every day, Lidia goes running with her three dogs, and enjoys ecotourism. She adopted two dogs: Alena and Lázaro.

Gaby. Our storyteller. She collaborates by turning each case into a story. Gaby enjoys the adventures on the mountain when biking. She adopted three dogs: Lolita, Canelo and Quincho.
