Dhaka city has at least four and a half lakh roofs (more than four and a half thousand hectares) which is equal to or more than any other upazila in the country. Where accommodation, school-college, university, office-court, bank, shopping mall, convention center etc. occupy most of the space. There is no way to underestimate this amount of space. It is easier and safer to bring these places under greenery, especially under vegetable and fruit cultivation, as they are under the control of individual or individual head or association. The building code is supposed to be 20% green (which is a reflection of the will of the organizations working with the roof garden and the policy maker) which is completely neglected in many places. The city of Dhaka is rapidly turning into a Heat Island as a result of rising temperatures, the consequences of which will be borne by the next generation.

An essential and popular component of the roof garden is safe vegetable cultivation, which is also a challenge. The interest of urban farmers in cultivating vegetables and crops is increasing day by day due to the desire of the roof growers to eat safe vegetables.

Status of research on roof gardens: Agricultural companies are working with non-government organizations on planting vegetables and agricultural crops in roof gardens. A survey of 100 families in Dhaka's Mirpur-10 area by the Department of Agricultural Extension of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University showed that 41% of the roof gardeners are young, 30% middle-aged and 28% old. Prefers to cultivate ornamental, medicinal, small herbaceous crops. The amount of fruits planted in 2nd place and vegetables in 3rd place. Safe vegetable cultivation in any container in an open and empty space of a family is able to meet the needs of the family.

The main importance of vegetable cultivation is to cultivate vegetables or fruits safely or organically. It is good to know the following things in safe vegetable cultivation-

Perching: It is better to make a place for birds to sit in the roof garden. The birds will eat the fruits and vegetables of the garden only when it is safe and detoxified. They also eat a lot of insects. If you let the birds eat, then safe vegetable and crop production as well as sustainable environment will be protected for all.

Alternative cultivation: Do not cultivate vegetables of the same family in the same place (alternately cultivated) such as tomatoes, eggplants, potatoes side by side, cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli etc. together.

Mixed-crop: At the same time the yield will increase by cultivating vegetables, herbs and marigolds in a bed fruit tree drum or planter box. For example- Tomato-Gadaful-Carrot-Broccoli-Lettuce-Tulsi / Peppermint- Planting in this format in planter box or permanent / semi-permanent bed will reduce or reduce the incidence of diseases and insects. It will not require the use of any chemical poison for safe cultivation. Trying to produce more from the same place because not all plants take nutrients from the same layer of soil. This will accelerate the proper and sustainable use of fertilizers and other ingredients.

Do not leave any space vacant: In our country, it is possible to cultivate all vegetables and fruits in all places in all seasons. Small orchards are commercial orchards: In a city of millions of people, if everyone continues to cultivate fruits and vegetables little by little, a safe crop planting movement will take shape and a large vegetable factory will be created as a whole.
