"If you are reading this then @riverhead, and by extension steemit.chat, has been fired."

in community •  7 years ago  (edited)

A shocking message appears at the moment in the landing page of Steemit.chat!

What happened? @riverhead, the developer and manager of Steemit.chat, says in this message that his position as a Steem witness has been devalued (he is at the 23th position in the list at the moment) by investors who don't consider anymore who brings value to Steem community - or this is what I understand about that.

"...As time passes folks in the top 20 get complacent, and large stakeholders lose interest in keeping track of who does what for the ecosystem." So writes Riverhead, adding:  "In my humble opinion this chat service provided a lot of value to the community and worthy of a witness postion. Those with the voting power to shape the witness list disagreed"

Anyway, another team will manage Steemit.chat soon (so says also the message): "I have found a willing and able team, lead by @followbtcnews, to take it over."

Edit: @riverhead announced somehow it 4 days ago in this post.

Well steemitchat was nice....was it worth $500,000? Probably not.

Honestly what I have seen is that witnesses while not only important are actually ESSENTIAL to the steem blockchain. No denying that. With that being said I think they are ALL over paid. For what they do (Steemit chat for example) that is NOT a $500,000 operation...... Nor are ANY of the operations I see witnesses doing....

So Yes i hope chat comes back on but no its not worth $500,000 we can use FB or Discord for FREE........

anyway, if really the top witnesses get such a high fee, people surely use also money to get witness votes. and this can be a bug in the steemverse.

Many accusations have been leveled about this over the years, none have been confirmed enough for me to want to link. Overall completely agree with you guys- steemit chat was cool but it wasn't $500k per year cool when we have discord and other services.

Steemit chat helped a lot of people including newbies to get help from others in the platform n even people supported each other. Dunno what's the prob.

Well few days ago Riverhead had made a post about steemit.chat management changing:
https://steemit.com/chat/@riverhead/steemit-chat-migrating-to-new-management

I was expecting some downtime, but I hope it won't be long :)

If the downtime get's to be too long we can always create a discord chat xD Just for @arrjey to talk about boobs and buts :P

did someone said Butts and Boobies???? xD I love talking about butts and boobies. <3

I guess this is like your summon spell or something xD

I actually get notified when some says Butts and boobies on the blockchain xD

Really don't know what to think about steemitchat... from one perspective most of the ppl that went there were guys asking for bandwidth and upvotes... but there were also ppl there that were helpfull to the community, like pharesim, suesa, geekpowered, sykochica, epsu, arrjey, etc... i'm just naming the ones i had more contact with, when i first joined steemit i went to steemitchat to ask some questions i had, and they introduced me to steemstem, and steemstem has been a great help , not only making friends, but also to make my Good posts more known to the community... but to get 500k just for that?

awww, thanks for saying that. :)

and also wrong names xD "geekpowered" not geekpower, and "pharesim" not pharasim :P

What are you talking about? 😎😎😎😎😎 all of their names are correct xD

"yeah sure!! I must be mistaken." (Sarcastic Voice)

Stalker...

Well Informed

The important thing is that they make shure top 20 witness are really caring and bringing value to the plattform, since theyr value!

right. too much money in those roles though, in my opinion.

What I see is that this huge difference between the 20 and the 21 doesn't make a lot of sens to me... And also what if we take, let's say, the 10% of the top 20 amount and distribute it to the users? It will be tween 400'000 and 1'000'000 dollars per year!

I do not understand the issue going on, but we hope this problem soon passed and hopefully the best going forward.
thanks @paolobeneforti for information

I am very surprised to hear this.

Hopefully @followbtenews able to manage steemit chat with good ...

I never know about steemit chat until the day i decided to test run a programme which was to send SBD for an Upvote by Jerry Banfield. I had sent him one sbd with a link to one of my blog posts in the memo space which i later got a reply from him in the comment section of that same post, saying that i should finalize the transaction by upvoting him in as witness in the steemit chat which i did and later got an upvote from him. Since then i kept low on that, trying to study what witness was all about and thanks for this post as it has gone a long way in answering some of my intent questions on what steemit chat and steemitchat is all about. I will still do more diggings to find more and how it works.
