A TALE OF TWO KNIVES - STEEMIANS, TRAVEL, FRIENDSHIPS, SILVER, CRYPTO & STEEMIT

in community •  7 years ago

The delivery has been made, and so has the decision!

So, on my giant Missouri Steemian Homestead Tour a lot went down. However, the real purpose of the trip centered around weapons! Yes, that's right, weapons! There is a man in them there woods that crafts weapons for crypto! Well, he does now anyway!

THE MAN IN THEM THERE WOODS

Do you see that big, hulking, bearded beast of a man there with the knife? That's "the Yeti" from @freedompoint. Yup, I told you he makes weapons. Not only that, he'll make weapons for you if the price is right, and this time it was. You don't have to take my word for it though, check out his final post in his knife making series. In the last post in that series, he shows how to sell his custom knives to papa-pepper for crypto!

Now, of course, the question is, "Why does @papa-pepper need weapons?" Does he need to defend himself? Is he planning an armed robbery? No, sorry to disappoint, but actually I use them as tools. A knife can be a handy tool to have around... or around your neck!

TRADING IN MY NECKTIE FOR A NECK KNIFE!

Credit for that "trading a necktie for a neck knife" idea goes to @otage. Anyway, some time ago @bluerthangreen came back from an event at jack Spirko's, but he didn't come alone, he came armed. He brought me a sweet neck knife and soon I was in love.

Having a knife handy is so, well, handy. Unfortunately, I've lost a lot of pocket knives in my day. It's probably operator error, but I blame the pockets. Originally, @bluerthangreen brought two back, one for me and one for him, but then he gave his away. After learning the blessing of this handy tool, I knew that I had to do something about it, so I soon contacted @freedompoint and soon a pair of neck knives were in the works.

TRADING IN MY NECKTIE FOR A NECK KNIFE!

In that interview above you can see the trade go down. @Freedompoint came through on his end and then it was time for me to make good on the deal. While he had never sold knives for crypto, his time had come! (Is that why crypto is so dangerous, because you can buy weapons with it? I should have traded him for rabbits, those are dangerous too!)

What I didn't pay in SBD I made up for in Silver, Steem Silver! Yup, as part of my ongoing mission to get the limited edition 2017 STEEM Silver Rounds into the hands of more steemians, I offered to toss one into this deal. Very excitedly, @freedompoint accepted my offer!

THE CHOICE IS YOURS!

Earlier today, I finally caught up with @bluerthangreen. One knife was so he could have (and keep) a neck knife. The other was to be a backup for me. There's no way I want to lose one and go without, so I planned ahead and made sure that I'd have two to start with.

Choices like these are tough. The knives were similar, but distinctly different. I wasn't exactly looking for a matching set or a "his and hers pair," if you know what I mean. After some inspection, appreciation, and contemplation, the choice was made and @bluerthangreen had chosen his weapon.

Look at that happy homesteader! Can you tell he likes it? Did you hear that @freedompoint? HE LIKES IT! In the end, this was a very interesting deal. Three men who have all lived in Wisconsin and are now in the Ozarks got to be involved in a very peculiar situation involving completely original custom handmade neck knives, limited edition STEEM Silver, and our wonderful steemit currency, SBD! It's a great time to be a steemian!

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

SteemBirds Video Comment for @papa-pepper

You guys nailed it! Excellent work my friends, and great idea!

That is amazing! I am so glad he likes them! Hopefully you guys will have these forever. My experience with making the pair, and then selling for crypto and silver was a definate highlight in my Steem career and in my year. Life is good, God is great. Thank you again for the opportunity! 🙃 @freedompoint

Thank you for the surprise gift. Much appreciated!

I am really glad you like it. 1095 high carbon. Keep a little oil on it to help prevent rust. Be well!

I'm really glad that you like it too!

@papa-pepper i really want a copy of that neck knife, would love to have one..
but trading the necktie for a neck knife, was it worth it?
help me understand

It was worth it. Neckties are almost completely worthless.

Awesome!!!!!!.
Can i Have one pls?

You'd have to talk to @freedompoint about that.

Yeah man! They have gotten some good attention. I might have to make some more!

I also sell knifes, but I dont make the blades myself, only the leather sheath and the wooden handle if someone ask for that.
Also, they are a bit more on the "weapons" side than your ones, regarding size and shape. But I guess yours are perfect to take someones appendix out if they are well sharpened. :)
And to be honest, I would rather trade them for silver or gold than for BTC - but perhaps I'm just oldfashioned.

A very good idea for a collection of coins)) From which alloy coin? Knives handmade?

Coin is .999 Silver.

Hi there! Yes hand made. They only left my hand when it was in the fire! 🙃

THAT is DIY liberty. And leading by example, kudos to both of you for putting your money where your libery is :)

Thank you! I look forward to making more! Be well!

those are the sick, that caught my eye the other day, thanks for the write up, how much STEEM does it go for?

I am glad you like the knives!

Wow, those knives look pretty amazing. I always carry a small pocket knife with me, use it quite a few times a day for all kinds of small daily tasks. Knives are versatile tools, and great objects to collect. Have a good weekend :)

I am glad you like them!

Those neck knives are bad ass!! Im glad you’re continuing to get the rounds in more peoples hands!! I can’t wait for 2018!

I am glad you like the knives!!

Pretty resourceful I must say!

You are so awesome @papa-pepper now you only wear one knife in the neck, and the other just in case, that's a great idea.

Ive been following you since @mericanhomestead got me involved with Steemit last year.. we live on a modest homestead in south Mississippi. Thanks for sharing your life with us Bro. May God Bless you and all you put your hands to..

Always inspire me with your post @papapepper father of steemit

excellent @ papa-pepper would be so good to have a knife of these tie and pocket in my house that are all lost, I would give one to each of my sisters. an applause for man for his excellent creation

this is very good @papa-pepper, because we do have to have at least one small knife in ourselves, therefore for us to guard against all dangers.
@papa-pepper, if you can, what is the symbol in a small knife sheath.
what is the symbol of togetherness?

Much appreciated. My neck was feeling a bit naked.

@papa-pepper, if you are ever in the Springfield area please let me know. I would love to meet you. I don't have knives to exchange. I am kinda a city guy, but appreciate all you and other homesteaders add to the community.

Homesteaders are so great about sharing pratical knowledge. I really appreciate that!

Springfield, MO, right? I'll let you know. We should at least hang out and do an interview.

Yes, Springfield MO. Sounds like a plan! That would be an honor.

eheheh...the neck knife is just wonderful! Good thinking!
I like a lot cutting weapons, I collect someone, but never paid in SBD! :)

The neck knife is so adorably cute. I definitely would love one.

Keep safe with your tools Homesteaders!

I will! (Well, I'll try to.)

Back then , i can remember that the trading process was barter change , something in exchange of something . it's really nice to havea pocket knife handy @papa-pepper that's right for me i think that's for self protection too, we actualy have that pocket knife here , it's very famous in a place called 'Batangas' and it's called "balisong".

How i wish we can also have steem silver one day 😍

Here's a picture of balisong @papa-pepper

I used to have one of those.

Wow @papa-pepper nice one here
How I wish I could see you to get a copy of the neck knife.
I love your work
Thumbs up👍👍

where i can get a neck knife

I like that neck-knife in the black holder point up.
how many SBD's was it?

Great stuff @papa-pepper! I have collected and made knives my whole life. A good knife is a trusted tool, and each one is unique to the task. Great that you can help spread the Steem Silver Round to new friends! #ssg

id totally love to have one of those

Nice Post. Knives are one of my favourite things and silver is another. This is like the post of my dreams.

I'll definitely check out @freedompoint. I've been looking for more knife people to follow here. I think you mentioned on a previous comment about a Discord channel. I still have to check that out as well. I'm working on getting more knife posts up on my blog. I think I just finished my third one. All of my knives are production knives so far. I haven't taken the leap to buy a custom knife. I'm sure they are worth it, but I just can't pay custom prices right now. I like how no fiat currency was involved in your purchase. Nice.

That silver round is beautiful. I saw a post saying there was one coming out in 2018. I've been waiting to hear more details. I'll buy one for sure.

Keep up the good work.

Yeah, I am looking forward to those 2018 ones too!

Amazing @papa-pepper.

amazing video l also love pocket knives, but as like you i lost many pocket knives

Interestingly, the lightweight actually has more material on the spine. I’m guessing it’s needed to provided extra structural support.

@papa-pepper, what a great example of taking the blockchain and crypto, and turning it further into something tangible and taking the online into real life and furthering the sense of connection.

I would love to see this type of activity being further developed and developing a online steem market place for people to buy and sell things via steam or whatever means the pair agree upon. Hopefully with your post like this, it will help to further the cause!!

It was a very cool deal to be a part of! I like the way that you think.

This just in: @papa-pepper quits being a homesteader, instead becomes a full-time assassin; says, "I'm done killing chickens, time to move over to humans."
Over to Tim with sports..

NO NO NO! You've got me all wrong!

This just in: @papa-pepper clarifies that he's NOT a full-time assassin, still loves his homesteading work; "NO NO NO" he says and that we got him "all wrong". Is he lying or is he telling the truth? We'll uncover the answer at 9 tonight.
Back to Tim with sports..

What cool knives you are..

Hello everyone one I will be talk to every one that please check my last post if any one like my posts so please upvote and resteemit

angry bird ?? in a knife sheath

I've never heard of having a neck knife! What a neat idea!
I always use pocket knives. But, even with a clip to secure them, they do still tend to fall out at the most inopportune times...
Love the custom knives!!

I still lose them all the time too. I've had a much better experience with neck knives.

Those neck knives look awesome. I carry a small pen knife affair in my jeans all the time. It has come in handy many times. Currently I call it my best friend!

It's a good friend to have!

My contribution for you @papa-pepper

Nice knife!

Thanks papa

I am enjoying the continuing tales of your visit to the Mozarks.

So happy to have met you. Bits of our chat keep surfacing, I look forward to more.

Enjoy the Emerging Green Life!

Me too! A lot went down that day!

Those are awesome! What a great idea. I use a surgical knife for everything. It's too sharp to just carry around, but I could create a case for it and... this is perfect. I have a new project! Thank you!

An interesting post and its good to see a combination of different loves and pastimes bringing real people together. Sadly its illegal to wear a neck knife here in the UK and we're restricted to below 3 inch non-locking folding blades for our everyday usage. Knives like you guys had made can be worn when out in the bush though still luckily.
