All over the world child bedlessness is a problem. Kids are sleeping on mattresses on the floor with multiple siblings. This leads to poor sleep which causes many other ailments.
In the United States, Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) helps with this issue. They are a non-profit charity that builds bunk beds for children that do not have beds. In almost every state, there is a chapter and some states have more than 20 chapters.
My company sponsored a bunk bed build this morning. We built 15 bunk bed sets and delivered beds to four houses. It was an awesome experience.
In 2 hours, we went from wood to having all of the pieces necessary to assemble the bunk beds. Everything was set up in an assembly like fashion so people could do one small task over and over.
After a quick break for lunch we were off to deliver and build the bunk bed for the chosen family. This family had 4 kids and they were all on one king mattress.
After 45 minutes, they each had their own bed. To say the kids were excited would be an understatement.
Sometimes it’s great to take a step back and reflect and help others who aren’t as fortunate.
