OEA Secretary General Luis Almagro criticized on Saturday the dialogue between the opposition and the Venezuelan regime and warned about the dangers of holding presidential elections this year under the control of the dictatorship, saying that would only condemn Venezuelans to six more years of Nicolás Maduro.

"No election that comes out of this dictatorship, in these conditions, will bring a political change for the Venezuelan people, no election that comes out of this dictatorship and with these conditions will give solutions to the people," explained Almagró before dozens of Venezuelans gathered on Saturday at an event in Doral.

The elections represent "applying the worst sanction to Venezuelans. There is no worse sanction that can be applied to the Venezuelan people than six years more of the Maduro regime. That is definitely the case, "he insisted in the event organized by the International Coalition for Venezuela.

Although the secretary general of the Organization of American States did not directly mention the opposition parties that participate in the conversations that are taking place in the Dominican Republic, his words actually constitute a harsh criticism of the actions of his main leaders, who have concentrated its efforts in negotiating with Maduro the realization of the elections.
