I thought I had heard about this on the radio this afternoon, but have noticed online chatter about the surprising announcement that has stunned the community. Comodo has sold its SSL Business to a VC firm today.
Comodo has always stayed at the forefront when it comes to SSL Certificates. They have built a strong reputable business and has served the online global community. They controlled almost 40% of the market share providing SSL Certificates. I am sad to see them go.
They have followed others as this is not the first company to sell its SSL business. Symantec sold their SSL buisness last quarter. I haven't heard any bad news regarding discrepancies in their SSL Certificates as some others were being scrutinized by Google a few months ago.
There is not a lot of details as far as the sale of Comodo's SSL business, but as time passes the community will surely hear all the details regaring the VC firm that purchased their SSL business.
