Announcement of the Winner!

This makes the winner @frenchredrum, with a guess of 856, and an upvote and resteem of the competition post. Congrats @frenchredrum! I have transferred the winnings to your account.

( @nepd's guess was closer, however the entry didn't meet the resteem requirement. Sorry nepd! )

Review:

I ran this competition as a bit of an experiment to see what would happen, and as an experiment I think it has been a success. It's fair to say that I learnt a great deal from it. For starters, next time I would scrap the upvote/resteem requirements. This may work for a Dophin or Whale running a competition, however for a Minnow like me I think it really hurt the number of entries received. Worse still, not completing all the required steps invalidated over 60% of those entries.

The second thing I learnt was that promotion isn't easy. For a start it's hard to find places to promote without sounding spammy. In those places it is acceptible to promote, it's hard to be noticed amongst all the noise. I also realised that I needed to be posting regularly throughout the week, just as a means of keeping my content visible in the feed and as a means of indirect promotion of the competition.

Overall the post made 0.216 SBD and 0.123. This works out at less than $1 AUD, but don't worry - I'll still be making a nice donation to our local Scout group :-)
