Okay folks, so I've finally gotten around to having enough time to work on my NOS #Cybiko Classic; unfortunately, this one suffered the exact same issue as the last one (both of them were sealed), in that the batteries have leaked! Given that the Classics are around 20 years old at this point, it can be assumed that all of the batteries have leaked in the sealed versions, so if you ever get one that's unopened (or even one that's opened), I would first check the batteries on the unit, because it's likely that they've leaked (especially if they're the originals)! I have 3 pairs of replacement batteries on the way, but they'll be arriving in a few weeks, though getting the old batteries out is a priority, as is cleaning the terminals of alkaline deposits, in addition to also dealing with parts that aren't easy to reach and also have alkaline deposits!
Given that I've done this once before (a 6-7/10 job on my part, I'd have to say), I thought that this time I'd record me cleaning up all the alkaline deposits and also doing a #teardown of sorts (removing the back part of the case, as I don't need to go deeper than that, unless someone asked me to for later on), as it doesn't seem like this has actually been done before. Also, it allows me to record the position of the wires for soldering them back in my first unit, given that the wires got pulled out from the soldering joints when I had to open the case up constantly, though the unit itself can still boot up; it's just that the speaker isn't connected at all, and one wire isn't connected to the battery terminal!
In any case, I'm going to have to record it in one take, with no editing, which means that ideally, it'll be uploaded to YouTube within the next couple of days. I'll post up the link when it's ready to go! I'll quite likely have to do similar with a Cybiko Extreme next month, so again, I'll do a video of that too, although I do have teardowns to reference for that model!
