Realization of a Dream "Building my own Gaming Rig"

in computer •  7 years ago

Hello fellow steemians!

Yesterday, I just did my introduction and highlighted that one thing that excites me the most is having built my own PC. And so I thought that I wanted to share that experience here on steem.

A little background: Having a started a little family, gaming time really cut down for me; working is not helping at all. I am sure a whole lot of you can say the same thing for yourselves. Right now, I am mostly invested in Hearthstone, though I wanted to play some AAA games at 1080p only. And so the reason why I decided to go for this build of my choice.

This build was 6 months in the making. I really had to budget properly as I am only using extra savings every month for this.
I bought the Case first as I was certain I am going to build a small one and the TT Core v1 was just right. Eventually the motherboard as explained below. Then the rest was the season of bonuses and love and giving and cookies and a red fat man. And maybe some on the new year too.

BUILD LOG 2016: "Krypton"

I enjoyed taking these pictures so let me just share them here.

I chose the H170N-WIFI as this was a steal. A friend won this motherboard on a raffle from Gigabyte on Facebook. He knew I was planning on making a small build like this and offered this to me on a low price.

I chose to get 2x8 rather than 2x4 mainly because I wanted to future proof it a bit. This computer will mostly be used for my wife's work from home. And organized as she is(insert HAHAHA), she leaves everything open so what the heck.

If you noticed, the boxes didn't include the video card. This was the last major piece of the puzzle. I was torn between the 6GB and the 3GB variant and did not have any extra cash to push for the 6GB. I was really about to get the 3GB one till my wife surprised me the 6GB one as a gift for Christmas. Best Christmas Evah? I love you Babe!

I chose to build this Mid-Range PC build because of Financial Constraints. This kept me in check and reminded me that I am building a computer versus needs rather than wants. It is great to dream of an i7 build with a GTX1080ti, but to me, though it is really nice to have, I can enjoy all the same with an i5 with a GTX1060.

It is also nice to MOD and make it look more cooler, but then, I don't even have time to play the games I want to play so.. meh..

I can still remember the actual day I placed it all together. Just like Lego, It was a very satisfying feeling. Hopefully this post has inspired you to either build your own Dream RIG or share what you have already built.

So that is it for me. If you enjoyed reading through the content, hit upvote and comment the RIG of your dreams or share the Dream RIG that you already have.

That is it for me.. Till next time! And GameON!

Your post was mentioned in my hit parade in the following category:

  • Pending payout - Ranked 3 with $ 262,25

That is sweet. I never thought the first post after my intro would have this much impact. Thanks for recognizing me! more power to you.

This just give me more inspiration to write more about what I love doing.

Great build! May I ask how much you spent in total?

Hey bew. I spent around Php45,000. That is more or less around 1k USD. The link I had on pcpartpicker did not have a price for the SSD and Cooling but i think it is roundabout the same.

i am your new follower
have a lovely time and hope you get to play more often

I really hope so as well. It is never too late to play. The only thing holding us back would be time really :) hope you get to play soon too. Cheers!

Whenever time allows me I play zombies on call off duty mostly
But true
All the best

Nice build! Not enough people realize that they can easily build a high end performance rig at a substantial discount from the premade models - so congratulations on making the trip!

Since this is a 'gaming' rig, there is a very important piece of information missing - the monitor. What did you decide to go with?

I am actually using the old one I had from my previous build. Samsung SyncMaster S23A300B. 23" 1080p @60hz. I have been meaning to replace it because of the lack of HDMI but then again it goes back to budget constraints and the needs. But I have been eyeing the Asus VG248 24" @144hz as a possible replacement in the future. Or a 27" @60hz for more space power.

I can only put it this way, as a competitive gamer I will never ever go back to a 60hz monitor. A 144hz has one of the largest impacts on my gaming performance.

I recently picked up an Acer 144hz for $175, if/when you can afford it it would have one of the largest improvements to the rig.

Nice job!

I will make sure to keep that in mind. I play Overwatch casually and a 144hz monitor has been suggested to me by friends more times than I could count. It really is tempting, thus I heavily consider getting a 144hz monitor to replace the antique one.

Thanks a lot for the input.

By the way, which game are you competitively into? :)

The GTX 1060 although on the lower end of the series is still a very powerful card. You will find that you can play almost everything out there today with pretty high graphics settings.

I would have to agree on that. The first thing I did before deciding was to check FPS benchmarks on AAA games at 1080p. Then when I already had it installed, I popped it's cherry with a MAX Setting "Rise of the Tomb Raider." I never regretted having chosen the GTX1060 as this is just about right for me.

I recently got a GTX 1080, unfortunately most of the games I play are un-optimized. (See H1Z1, PUBG, Star Citizen.) You and me are set for a while bud.

I'll give those a look. Steam Sale Incoming :)

GTX 1060 really rips through AAA games at 1080p. That's pretty much the sweet spot for that resolution this gen.

I would have to agree.. GTX 1060 is really sufficient for my needs. :)

It is always more economical to build a pc yourself, excellent compenentes

I agree. Getting out of your way to research and select the parts and canvass them at different stores makes the experience more worthwhile as well as the possibilities of having budget deals.

Now this can is a post i can get behind. Is this your first build? How long did it take for the assembly? If you had any extra cash would you have pushed for some different parts, or does this satisfy you?

Nice build! I was wondering; how do you like the case?
There's something about square cases that make them very intriguing, but i'm afraid they're not very efficient space-wise. How is that going for you? Do you keep it on your desk?

Yes I do. It sits right beside my monitor. Of all the small cases available from where I am at, the TT Core v1 is right for the budget and I enjoy watching it's simplicity as well. I may have to agree the space is kind of cramped since the table I have is slightly small, but if it fits, it sits. :)
