There's been a ton of talk (and leaks) surrounding Intel's upcoming 8th-gen Core processors, dubbed "Coffee Lake". Based on what we've seen so far, Intel is striking back hard at AMD, offering more cores at the top-end of its line-up (over its own previous generation), and higher frequencies overall. We've already seen the Core i7-8700K overclock to 4.8GHz on air, which is almost a surprise given Intel's typical use of less-than-ideal thermal interface material in its chip packages.
While the embargo for Intel's 8th-gen chips isn't quite up yet, one Romanian website decided to publish early, and let the world gawk over its results. Both the Core i7-8700K and i5-8600K were included here, as well as their direct AMD competition, Ryzen 7 1700 and Ryzen 7 1600X.
In Blender, the Core i7-8700K placed well ahead of the Ryzen 5 1700 and 1700X, rendering a project in 144 seconds, versus 183, and helping to prove that different price-points can nod in different directions, the Core i5-8600K (218s) fell below its nearest competition, the Ryzen 5 1600X (199s). The same sort of results can be seen in Cinebench above.
In a HandBrake test, Intel lead the pack, but by a rather insignificant margin.

Perhaps not-so-surprisingly, Intel also has the lead in the gaming tests, although the biggest spread is at 1080p. We'd have to imagine that very few people would notice the difference of 10 FPS when a game is already delivering 100+ FPS, although we'd concede if your goals were strictly 144Hz-targeted.
