Very possible and easy to explain these concepts to their neophytes by teaching from what they knew already!!
To begin, they must have known the concepts of different "positions" and "sides"!! If this is not established , the teacher must begin by teaching them these comparative concepts. This done he/ he would proceed to explain the concepts of up/down and right/left to them viz:
UP/DOWN:
First establish a concept of neutral position of "nothing"to be used as the comparism basis.. We may assign imaginary sign of "0" to it!! This zero position should be explained as lateral, like the flat table surface!!
Thereafter, any position that can be accessed from UNDER the lateral table line is refers as "DKWN" where's any lateral position accessable the other side , opposite the established "Down" is dubbed as "UP"!!
Got it now??
LEFT/RIVHT The same method for Up/down should be adopted. But in this case the lateral horizontal " table " line be replaced with VERTICAL positioning.
As the teacher standing perpendicular to the line; he should designate ,the side to his most frequently used hand as RIGHT side , while the side to the less used hand as LEFT .
Your question was very technical, but it raises an issue of how we already know as truth became truth!!
It is all by agreed comparism by the parties concerned!!
