As I was going to bed last night, I checked my Facebook. And part of me wished I hadn't. The shocking news was that a dear friend, and pillar of the pow wow circle here in Manitoba was lost to this world.

My friend Donkey took me in this year. As soon as I showed up the first time with my brother I'm law. Donkey welcomed me to his family, and always made sure I had a spot in their camp. Welcoming me, feeding us breakfast. And always had a smile and good joke to share.

He set out our own camper when I arrived with my uncle to one pow wow. So they stayed there, and I used it as a wind break for my tent. He made sure to know that I would be staying at his house for the next pow wow.

Always helping out with his dad, the arena director. The first on the scene when security was needed. To disseminate any negativity. And always with a smile.

You will be remembered in the hearts and minds of so many people who your positive upbeat spirit have affected. In a good way.

Firefighter. Radio broadcaster. Volunteer. Traditional dancer. Arena director. Father. And so many more fine accomplishments. You will not be forgotten.

We love you Donkey
