Why you need to start using Airbnb

Okay, so I just got back from a mini vacation that I randomly decided to take. I injured myself at work(broken finger), which prevented me from working for a couple of weeks, so I thought, "hey, why not?" I took the family and we went to Gatlinburg, which is just an awesome city. If you've never been there, definitely check it out. You'll get some pretty cool scenery there, and in the Smoky Mountains.

But, I'm not writing this article to promote the majesty of Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge. Instead, I want to tell you about Airbnb.

Now, I'm sure a lot of you have used it, and some of you maybe not. This is for the people who haven't. I myself have always used hotels. They're easy, they're everywhere, and you usually get the same level of service and cleanliness based on what you pay for. Airbnb is different, and oftentimes far cheaper.

I created an account the day before I left, and had a place within thirty minutes. An amazing and cozy little cabin by a natural stream. Here's some pics.

Anyway, the host was a pretty cool lady who stayed in constant communication, but never bothered us. She not only had a super clean cabin, but left us a little neat guide book to the area that she put together herself. That's kind of what is special about Airbnb. It's someone's place that they want to share with other adventurers. It's not an impersonal room, with the same bland scenery and expectations. It's something new, and something cozy every time, by independent people who thrive on reviews.

You matter to them.

Your reviews are their life blood, and without it, they're out of business. So, whereas at a normal hotel they might get rude, or not live up to expectations, these guys go above and beyond to make sure you're happy and comfortable, and wanting to come back year after year.

So, I would like to say that my experience with Airbnb was outstanding, and I'll never use a hotel again. I'm the kind of guy who likes hole in the wall bars and restaurants over chains, because chains are just not interesting, or exciting, or different. Hotels are the same way and it took me this long to build up the courage and trust to step out of that bubble, but it's definitely changed my life. I'd much rather help out an indie than a chain, and I know they'll work a lot harder to make my stays memorable. Whether it's books they leave, decorations, unique amenities, or just a cozy and unique area.
