Three cheers for privatisation. This is the best political solution. Despite some temporary muppering by leftists who don't know how to win with grace, this is a solution that will very quickly calm down both sides.
I watched a similar solution happen with a public cross case. The political and legal battle over the cross in Skinner Butte park in Eugene, Oregon, dragged on for a couple decades. The cross was not only a religious symbol on public property, but it's original version was put up by the KKK. When at last the city lost the legal battle, the cross was given to a local Bible college, and people stopped fighting about the issue quite quickly.
Sure, I'll give you your monuments on public property, as long as you understand that it creates a limited public forum where your opponents get to set up their own opposing monuments, whether it be a statue of Satan or a monument to General Sherman (perhaps I repeat myself!). Or we could just leave the controversial stuff that doesn't reflect broad public values to the private world, where it can still be publicly visible.
And if you're angry that the public as a whole doesn't share your particular values, welcome to the nature of freedom and liberty. Suck it up like an adult.
