HOW TO BUILD SELF-CONFIDENCE? Maslow, needs, self-discipline and more

in confidence •  7 years ago  (edited)

Everybody wants to have high self-confidence but not many people know how to build it properly and maintain it. We feel good about ourselves after a new haircut, after having bought a new jacket or a new suit. We feel good about ourselves after getting good grades or after having achieved a goal, we feel self-confident when a girl we like says yes when we ask her out on a date. There are a lot of things that can make our self-esteem grow. But none of the factors I've mentioned are really the source on which we should base our self-esteem.

None of those things will bring you a rock-solid source of confidence. Not a new car, not a new pair of shoes and not even dating Margot Robbins (no, okay you are right maybe Margot Robbins can make you self-confident BUT without self-confidence you have no chances to get her, trust me).

What is that thing that could get me a solid and lasting sense of self-esteem and competence, you may ask. Well let's talk about your needs first. Maslow said that there are three needs that have to be fulfilled or partially fulfilled before getting to the self-esteem level. The first two are basic needs: physiological needs and safety needs. That means that you need to have a roof over your head and some food in the kitchen. There is also another need that have to be taken into account and that is the psychological need for belonging and love. You have to make friends and not just acquaintances but true friends, intimate relationships.

Pay full attention to these needs first and after you have worked on it and partially fulfilled them begin to think about self-esteem and competence.

How can you feel strong, ready, intelligent and powerful now? The answer is simple. Not easy but simple. Self-esteem is a byproduct of self-discipline. There is no shortcut. You can't buy it and nobody can give it to you. There is no possible way to feel confident when you don't do what you want to do or say what you want to say.

If you can't wake up right after the alarm rings in the morning, this is something you have to fix. Know that you are not alone that have to deal with this problem but start with this. Start small. After fixing this bad habit you could decide to go to the gym. Don't start going there 5 times a week and training for 3 hours. You will get bored very, very fast and you will give up. Start with one or maximum two times a week, doing a full-body workout for 30 minutes. Keep this habit for 90 days and then you can increase the duration of the training sessions and, if you want even increase to 3 or 4 times a week the days you go to pump iron. Don't give up. Start small. Be disciplined. Building small good habits is a snowball effect don't under estimate the amazing power of it.

The key for self-esteem is to focus on what we can control. Not on the result but on the process. Focus on what you do, not on what you want to accomplish. The more disciplined you get the more you will sense a feeling of power and competence. Nobody will be able to steal it from you. Nobody can make you feel inferior.

Rock solid self-discipline is the key to success. Stay strong. Don't get frustrated when you fail, it's ok to fail but DON'T GIVE UP.

Peace!
