Rain Sinking Southward But Set To Return Late Friday
FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES NEW JERSEY & PENNSYLVANIA SOUTH OF ROUTE 78
Since yesterday rainfall amounts varied but there are large geographic stretches that did pick up 1 to 2 inches of rain and more rain is forecast through Saturday evening though some areas are experiencing some drying. High pressure is building southward from Canada and it is temporarily shifting the rain southward into Southern New Jersey & Southeastern Pennsylvania. Those areas are likely to see the rain continue overnight through Friday and into Saturday. The areas seeing dry conditions developing from Northeastern Pennsylvania, Northern New Jersey to NYC Long Island & the Hudson Valley will likely be free from rain until late Friday or Friday night when the area to the south moves back northward again.
GFS RAINFALL FORECAST THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING
Additional rainfall of several inches is possible in areas from Southern Pennsylvania and in New Jersey south of Route 195. An inch or 2 is possible north of there. Rain should begin moving northward and out of the area from south to north later in the day Saturday and Saturday night.
EASTERN SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
Radars remain busy with this east west band of rain but you can see that the northern edge of this has shifted somewhat since Thursday morning. The northern edge will continue to drop southward before coming to a grinding halt somewhere in Southern New Jersey and Southern Pennsylvania.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
Sunday we could see some genuine improvement as a cold front approaches and moves through. Some sunshine warm and humid conditions will dominate with highs reaching into the 80s. I'm covering for the chance of an afternoon thunderstorm as the front passes but for now I don't think this will be a severe weather issue.
SUNDAY MAY 20 FORECAST HIGH TEMPERATURES
We may check a break in the longer range next week but another warm front cold front combination needs to play through here and that will happen Monday night and Tuesday. We will have more in this later today in the long range outlook.
