Stronger Blocking Means Optimism Grows For The Weekend
We mentioned this morning and yesterday that if the blocking pattern that is developing in the North Atlantic is a bit stronger, it could push all the clouds further south and this seems to be what is happening as models have been trending in this direction since yesterday. More on this in a bit, but as we look at the visible satellite this afternoon some breaks of sunshine have developed away from the coast. The clouds are a bit more stubborn over Southern New England & Long Island but where the sun is cutting through the clouds temperatures are rising into the 80s. Some pop up showers or a thunderstorm could surface this evening under these warm and humid conditions.
EASTERN SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
Radar is beginning to show some pop up showers and thunderstorms to the west and north while rain from earlier is well to the east in Southeastern New England.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
Saturday looks to be a warm humid day as a weather front pushes south but it may take all day long to do it. It will still be warm and humid and there is the risk for a few scattered downpours or a thunderstorm but much of the day it will probably be okay.
GFS SUNDAY JUNE 3, 2018
As for Sunday even though a large high is building to the northeast which normally would be problematic, the high is building southward allowing dry air cooler air to wedge down as far south as Southern New Jersey. This could make much of the area mostly sunny for Sunday especially from Central New Jersey northward into Southern New England. Temperatures will be cool with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s. We will push the chance for some rain back to Monday as low pressure off North Carolina moves northeast. At least right now the weekend is looking reasonable even if we have to dodge a few showers on Saturday.
