This is a recap from the post that @ned shared from his discussion at Consensus 2018.
The host starts off by asking "Why here at the beginning of web 3.0 are we talking about money immediately?"
Ned is the first to respond by saying "I think we're all interested in bootstrapping networks, and empowering people" then also talks about empowering people's lives with cryptocurrency.
Then the host says to Ned "Steemit you guys have been in the space getting people to earn the longest..", and continues to ask "Where does this value come from?"
Ned replied by saying "I get that question all the time, and my favorite way to answer is that.. We were the first to realize that cryptocurrency distribution can happen just like points get distributed on social networks of past generations".
He talks about Smart Media Tokens (SMTs) saying that "Tokens additive to the power of the business model online."
They also discuss immutability, which means being unable to delete posts after posting them.
Ned explains that the platform does not store photos or videos.
He also talks about Dtube, and how it is a Youtube competitor, which is built on the STEEM platform.
He talks about "reputation", and how people can choose who they want to do business with based on their reputation.
Giving people the option with SMTs to launch their own blockchain, which allows them to bring together their own community, and then states that he likes the idea of one person one vote.
He ends with talking about marketing a great user experience, and having great content on the platform.
