My War on Plastic Waste - Reduce & Reuse

Plastic Pollution is a very real threat to the world as we know it as well as all of the eco-systems hosted within it.

Here are just a few facts taken from www.ecowatch.com

  • In the Los Angeles area alone, 10 metric tons of plastic fragments—like grocery bags, straws and soda bottles—are carried into the Pacific Ocean every day.
  • Over the last ten years we have produced more plastic than during the whole of the last century.
  • 50 percent of the plastic we use, we use just once and throw away.
  • Enough plastic is thrown away each year to circle the earth four times.
  • We currently recover only five percent of the plastics we produce.

The only way that we are able to make a difference is by making changes in our own life. These changes may seem small, however, the bigger picture in this case can only be painted by the brushes held by every individual prepared to make a difference.

Here are two very simple ways that I manage to reduce and reuse plastic bags in my household:

I reduced my consumption by making and using these very simple tote bags from left over material, and even up-cycled denim.

I Fold and store plastic bags that have already found their way into my home, then re-use them at a later stage

Here's how

Take the plastic bag and flatten it out

fold the bag in half on its length line, then fold it in half lengthwise again,

Now, pick up the bottom left corner and fold it over so that it touches the right hand side, forming a triangle shape, then take the corner at the bottom folding it upward.

repeat doing this, until you reach the top, then tuck the last piece into the opening of the triangle.

you now have plastic bags that can be stored for re-use easily and neatly

Let me know how you contribute in fighting the war on pollution!

Great job dear @breezin!
It's very interesting post :)

Thank you so much @djsonic! thank you so much for taking the time to have a look. May your new year be filled with all the best

It took a while, but now all big stores have to charge for plastic bags in the UK. It's about 5c each and that has massively reduced the number used. We've been using re-usable bags at the supermarket for years. Society needs to become less wasteful in general

I couldn't agree more!

I am glad they have done that but its crazy how some people still think they should get a free bag when shopping and are disgusted when pressed to pay for bags, my questions is under what rock are they living? And thanks upped back

Cool bags and good action :) Thank you for sharing and raising awareness :)

Thank you!

We use plastic bags from grocery shopping as kitchen bin liners. When we shop at the organic shop, we take our own bags (mostly). They have paper bags for produce or are happy for customers to put things on the counter loose.

We do need more people like you in the world!

Aw, thanks, darl.

The only way to stop this kind of war is that people should think like you about pollution, but for some people, it doesn't matter, they keep doing it even if they know is bad for all of us!

Well, we can only hope that the awareness will spread! thank you so much!

Thank you for doing what you are doing! I’m trying to follow these tips in my everyday life too. Keep up your great work – you’re an inspiration to me!

Thank you so much! That means so much to me!
