Some world citizens do not take their noses. No no, they want to know the seam of the stocking and assume the saying: "though the lie is so fast, the truth is getting out of it." What seems like a cow seems to be taken by a great grain of salt by these world citizens. And just these world citizens give us the conspiracy theories behind which the hair style leaves behind. Theories shoot like mushrooms from the ground. They doubt us and sometimes make our image of a truthful world completely disappear. Geestig Magazine is wondering how conspiracy theories arise, follow and stand in a world where everything seems to be presented as truth.

How conspiracy theories originate

The picture just sketched is not quite correct. Not all conspiracy theories arise because people are explicitly looking for ways to overcome stories, facts or statements. How do conspiracy theories arise? To get a clear picture of the beginning of a conspiracy theory, Geestig Magazine takes you to September 11, 2001, aka The 9/11 Attacks . Around 8:45 pm, a passenger plane is flying into the North Tower of the World Trade Center (WTC). About a quarter of a century, the South Tower of the World Trade Center is hit by a plane. At 9:30 AM George W. Bush will hear for the first time. He describes the events as apparent terrorist attacks. As if it were not bad enough, the Pentagon also appears to be a target. At 9:43 am, flight 77 is flying against this US Department of Defense's headquarters. The North and South Tower of the WTC and the relatively intact Salomon Brothers building (WTC-7) collapse at 10:28, 10:05 and 17:20 respectively.

The official story released by the US government provides one explanation for the events. As more and more evidence was released, it became apparent what had happened: nineteen terrorists of al-Qaeda captured four planes and caused massive destruction. This is a fairly uncomplicated statement. In the past hundreds of aircraft have been hijacked by terrorists, so a coordinated hijacking of four aircraft at once is easy to portray. The idea of ​​using aircraft as giant flying bombs was new, but ' within the realm of possibility ,' as the English say so beautifully. It is therefore logical that many people are satisfied with the official statement.

To get a conspiracy theory from the ground there are two things needed. Firstly - Scrabbelaars noted - a conspiracy theorist. A conspiracy theorist is someone who dares to pull the supposed "truth" that is provided to us by critically dictating governments. In addition, there must be something that a conspiracy theorist can use, something that is not logical or simply can not be beat. In some conspiracy theories are a little small, but in the case of 9/11 there are some big gaps in the official statement:

• Three skyscrapers collapsed. When the North and South Tower of the WTC collapsed, it was explained by the giant aircraft that hit in. The fallout of the Salomon Brothers building, on the other hand, is not so easy to understand. Because of the debris that is released at the collapse of the North Tower, there is a fire in the Salomon Brothers building. Never before, a skyscraper poured from top to toe as a result of a fire.

• It is highly remarkable that a passenger plane has been able to hit the Pentagon. The Pentagon is finally the beating heart of the largest and most advanced military organization ever known to the world. There is therefore reason enough to assume that a defensive system has been considered that makes the building irreversible. A building like the Pentagon should also be able to protect itself well from ground-air missiles, right? The attack on the Pentagon took 58 minutes after the first plane pierced the North Tower. You would think there was enough time to collect some jets and protect Washington, DC.

• None of the four hijacked aircraft has been taken out of the air by fighter aircraft, whereas fighter plane intervention when a plane is out of order is a standard procedure. When Payne Steward's Learjet (a medium-sized private jet) ran out of 1999, the jet was captured by more than ten aircraft, with the first intervention being realized after twenty minutes. The question is therefore: why was not responded to the four hijacked aircraft?

Thus, a number of major issues are not explained by the story that the US government brought out, and this is just the tip of the iceberg. Over the years, many comments have been placed on the official statement of the 9/11 Attacks.

Building a conspiracy theory

A plot theory thus begins with a number of contradictions, but after that the hardest part of setting up a conspiracy theory only deals with. The conspiracy theorist must be able to explain all events in a credible way from this point of departure. If he does not succeed, the theory is unlikely and there is a small chance that the theory will follow. To illustrate the development of a plot theory, we look at the way in which conspiracy theorists have explained the collapse of the Salomon Brothers building. They must be able to demonstrate that the collapse might have been planned beforehand by an organization other than Al Qaeda. It must also be proved that the way the building collapsed simply can not be explained by the circumstances on 9/11. The conspiracy theorist may use one of the following facts:

• The Salomon Brothers building was not hit by a plane. The building had a fire, but the fire was reasonably under control and certainly not steering. Never before has a skyscraper collapsed after it has been in fire and flame. The collapse of this building under these circumstances is therefore highly unusual.

• There are several video clips on the internet to see how the Salomon Brothers building collapses. The building, as it were, sees the ground in a completely uniform way (see below image). If the fall of the Salomon Brothers building had actually been a natural collapse, as stated in the official statement, it is impossible for the collapse to occur in such a uniform manner. Several rescuers witnessed a series of explosions when they were evacuating in the lobby of the Salomon Brothers building. Striking fact: Three firefighters told a movie crew about hearing explosions when there was no question about the nature of the attacks. They have heard at least four explosions, compared to explosions that are associated with a controlled collapse. Shortly after the explosions, the building collapsed.

The uniform collapse of the Salomon Brothers building

• On the internet, a remarkable video clip appeared on February 26, 2007. The fragment is from the BBC's archive. The material concerns a comprehensive report of the collapse of the Salomon Brothers building and was filmed on September 11, 2001. Nothing special, did not it happen that the collapse of this almost intact WTC building would take place only 26 minutes later. After a few hours, the fragment was removed by Google.

Based on these and other evidence, the conspiracy theorist can conclude that it is impossible for the Salomon Brothers building to be in a natural way. If he has been able to prove this, it is fair to conclude that the fall of the Salomon Brothers building must have been a planned affair. He must then also assume that all events on September 11, 2001 were part of a major and thoughtful plan. Is this a plan taken over by the US government's top hat or is there another organization behind the mass destruction?

After a period of detailed research, the conspiracy theorist presents a complete theory that will give meaning to everything that happened on that conscious September 11th. Is the theory plausible? Is there any purpose and motive at each stage of the theory? Is there enough evidence to support the theory? And most importantly, does the theory actually explain what happened? Furthermore, a smoking gun is indispensable for an iron-strong theory. A smoking gun can be a leaked video fragment, but also a whistleblower that has actually contributed to the events. If the burden of proof is quickly destroyed, as was the case with the BBC's video clip, the evidence becomes even stronger.

First of all, a conspiracy theory can not get rid of unless there is a notable event. Then it is important that the official explanation of the event can not explain everything. The last link in the process is someone who is able to overcome the official story by getting a better alternative. The moment when a conspiracy theorist has captured all of the above elements in a coherent and plausible story, there is a complete conspiracy theory.
