A recently declassified Central Intelligence Agency paper, Chapter 1: The Adam and Eve Story, by Chan Thomas about a cyclical catastrophe (extinction level event) that is missed when you average observations over millions of years.

The paper was classified by the CIA in 1966, sanitized in 2013 and declassified in 2016. The declassified version is sanitized and has pages missing which only feeds conspiracy theories about what the government is not telling you.

Mythology or Science
There are many mythical stories from various cultures about ancient civilizations being wiped out. The CIA paper talks about the next great cataclysm and great floods.
The modern movie 2012 bears an uncanny resemblance to the catastrophe described in the paper.
The paper lends credence to some of the catastrophe mythology.
Theory
The CIA paper describes a 90 degrees cyclical pole shift that flips back an forth on a time scale that is much shorter than millions of years. The cyclical pole shift is accompanied by a mantle shift. This is a rapid catastrophe much like in the movie 2012.
Conspiracy: What Is Missing?
Why is a paper classified back in 1966 still not fully known? The are pages and information missing from the paper.
What is the periodicity of the cyclical catastrophe? How close are we to the next cyclical catastrophe?
Not fully declassifying such a scientific paper fosters conspiracy theories and does not allow other scientists to verify any of the claims made or scientific discussions.
there was a catacylsmic flood which wiped out nearly all life on earth about 5000 or so years ago, and science can prove it.
another worldwide catastrophe is also expected sometime in the next 20 years or so, but not a flood, more a series of earthquakes, famines, weird astronomical events, plagues of insects, and much of earth being burned up.
