Seems like the UN is getting more and more power lately, and it is becoming a Global Government. It all start with an economic union, then it's integrated into a political union, just like how the European Union was born out of the European Coal and Steel Community, now it's a political union.
To quote Wikipedia:
The European Union (EU) is a confederate politico-economic union of 28 member states that are located primarily in Europe.
It's no longer a treaty of economic union between nations, now it's a political union too since the Lisbon treaty. It is now confederated, but will soon become federated, just like the United States, it will be a United State of Europe.
