The Stevia hoax

in consumerism •  6 years ago  (edited)

A single stevia paper bag contains 0.8 gram of content:
Mostly Erithritol and only 3.5% Stiviol Glycosides.
These measurements were meant so that a user that is used to 1.5 teaspoons of sugar will have to use 2 bags of the nearly stevia-less stevia, and double the sales.
It is possible to put 1 entire gram in bags the same size, and it is also possible to use a higher than 3.5% dose of Stiviol Glycosides.
Written on the box is that such a single bag is as sweet as 1.5 teaspoon of sugar, and it is a lie.
update: I just tried 2 bags in the same glass, and it is not even as sweet as 2 teaspoons of sugar, while according to the marketer's statement is supposed to be as sweet as 3.
It is not at all sweet, it is a placebo sweetener, and I do not refer to Stevia itself, I refer to the product that is falsely marketed bearing the name of Stevia.
Pure corporate corruption.

"Written on the box is that such a single bag is as sweet as 1.5 teaspoon of sugar, and it is a lie."
This statement of a fact you base on something, or it's because "3.5% Stiviol Glycosides" is "nearly stevia-less stevia"?
If a 0.8g bag is in fact as sweet as 1.5 tbs of sugar, then making a 1g package makes no sense.
If anything a package should be smaller.
Also, to increase the Stevia content also makes no sense.
Not everyone wants to sweeten more than 1.5 tbs worth of sugar, most people don't actually.
If you want to see the magic of marketing, look at the dosing of toothpaste in commercials and on containers.
You are being conditioned to use even three times as much toothpaste than is necessary.
Just so you can use it faster and buy more often.
