Contact Juggling. Episode I.

in contact •  6 years ago  (edited)

Hello Stemmians!

In my first post I told you that -among other things- I’ve dedicated myself to playing contact juggling.
I began to train around 2003 and I am still enjoying this wonderful art that has allowed me to travel through corners of the world that I could never have imagined.

Hola Stemmians!

I was browsing though Steem to see if I could find information about contact juggling and I found @lucasgabd and his great tutorials! In Lucas’ tutorials you will find tricks very well explained, ideal to start practicing. Congratulations Lucas, very good job!
Of course, I'm already following him on Steem.

Inside the Labyrinth.

I remember when the movie Inside the Labyrinth was released in 1986, starring the magnificent David Bowie and the very young -at that time- Jennifer Connelly.
In the scenes where Bowie manipulated the crystal sphere they hired a double, that double was the immense Michael Moschen, undoubtedly one of the most illustrious and revolutionary jugglers in history.

Michael Moschen.

Moschen, besides being a juggler, is an expert mathematician, to the point that in 1990 he won the "Genius" prize of the Mac Arthur Foundation and has given many conferences at prestigious universities such as MIT, Carnegie Mellon, TED talks, etc.
His genius led him to delve into both the poetic level of juggling and the mathematical. He expanded the technical and creative horizon to levels unimaginable at that moment, giving rise to the creation of contact juggling, the multiball, the bounce triangle, the manipulation of S-Staffs and various techniques of juggling and manipulation of objects that I will comment on in more detail in a future post.

Michael Moschen.

I had the honor of meeting Michael on his tour of Argentina in 2007. We chatted for almost an hour, exciting.
I mentioned that I came to know contact juggling thanks to him and to the movie Laberinto -especially when I saw the backstage- where he was playing with his spheres on the film set- and that was when I said to myself “sometime I’m going to learn how to do that...”

Beyond pure technique, I live training as an active meditation. When training, my mind, my thoughts, my fears, my doubts and my concerns disappear giving rise to the present, the here and now.
The state of “no mind” is what attracts me most of the contact juggling.

Here I am playing contact juggling in Saint Cergue (Switzerland), very close to the house of Joseph, a great friend and huge artist and suuuper contact juggler!
