What Have You Learned From Older People?

Our Elders can pass much wisdom on to younger people. Let us know what some of that wisdom was. Of course some old people are also a little out there and share interesting (non wisdom) stories so let's here those too.

In case you don't know who I am here is my intro post from way back:

Most regret working too much during their life.

@robhimmself1 ...being workaholic is not a bad thing.. if we enjoy it.

Sebaiknya, semakin bertambah umur kita, semakin kita dekat dengan orangtua kita.

I've spent a lot of time with elderly both via family and through some of my previous employers.

The thing that I have learned over the years from the elderly people that I spent time with is that there really is only one thing that is important in life - the time we spend with our family and loved ones. These elderly people craved the company of the people they love in their final years. It's what kept them going and the smiles I saw on their faces when loved ones visited was one of the most warming things I have ever seen.

I got caught up chasing the almighty dollar for many years and only truly understood how important family and loved ones are when I saw 5 family members and close friends die over a period of 2 years.

Now I am all too aware of how important it is to be with family and friends as much as possible. Life is too short to go chasing something as silly as a few nice items or that next big pay check. Possessions are never as important as the people you love.

For example, at one point (while telling her story), she would be reciting poetry, then she would segue into prose, and in between all of that was the singing she would infuse in her narrations.

Ibu tahu, tidak bisa disamakan antara ditinggal pergi orangtua untuk selamanya, dengan menghadapi perpisahan orangtua. tapi, bagi seorang anak, sama-sama menyakitkan.

I have come to ask your parents for help in the eradication of summer flu in Humbleton. The garbage cans are full of Kleenex wipes. The doctors have run out of cough drops. I do not know what to do

yesssssssssss!!!!! when do i get shortlisted for this ?

A wise older man once told me "Growing old is boring son, so don't"

I have learnt things in form of Parables "The only music a tortoise dance to, is that of a boiling water" which mean a Child should always take precaution in handling or dealing with issues. If that person goes otherwise, it might be too late to correct such mistakes.

"What an old man sees while sitting, a young man cannot see it, if he climbs a tall iroko tree" meaning people should always listen to those with experience when they are being given advice, from through experience one can shape his/her life in the right direction learning from other people's mistake.

They say wisdom is ubiquitous but people still go searching for it. The reply here is so touching, where do you get these thoughts and ideas from?awesome.jpg

Thank you. Got it from the men who have toiled the soil and travel the earth decades before I was born.

@yungcheif , speaking the truth... what an experience man can see , a young cannot!!!
With experience a wise man become more humble. Like a tree 🌳 with fruits 🍎, always bow down!!!
Cheers man for gracious word.

I am 18 years old and my mom (@jaklassen) taught me very much about life and faith. She also taught me how to cook :).

The things that I have learned from my grandmother who told me all the time and now I tell my children: Do not worry too much. I get stressed by everything that I should not have allowed. Being grateful with what you have During my childhood I was angry about the things I did not have, I reproached my mother very much. Try to be a better version of yourself every day. Every day there are opportunities to learn something new, apologize for our mistakes and be better. Leave your ego. It's something I need to work on, since having an ego has not done anything good for me. Follow your passion We only have one life. If you are not following what you love then what are you doing? Why live a life that does not inspire you? Your childhood It matters, but do not let it control your adult life. Do not let the things that happened to you as a child control the rest of your life. Use them to your advantage, learn from them. Follow your dreams. It is never too late or too early to follow your dreams. Stay true to your words. Do not say something unless you're going to comply. Learn to say "no" more often if you are not able to do it. Learn from your relationships. Learn from the good and the bad, but stay authentic. Do not let someone turn you into something you do not want to be.

My grandfather taught me to live a healthy life, at the age of 95 he wakes up early in the morning walks for half an hour and makes his own breakfast with healthy fruits and organic food. This shows that if you're willing the lifestyle adopted can take you a long way.

Ibu, Ayah, mungkin aku berjalan dengan sangat lambat, tapi yakinlah itu adalah perjuanganku untuk bisa membahagiakan kalian.

Do not like to grumble at parents. Mama is fussy and it definitely makes you annoyed. For sure you love you and want to remind you of the good.

Yet to find my luck.

Sederhana saja keinginanku, melihat kedua orang tuaku sehat selalu.

Be a good wife, Naina. Abah's responsibility is over. Abah can only pray for the best for you and your new family

that the bad moments happen and that the good ones always arrive.

I learned from them to be discipline and honest person, however poor we are we never tried to get things of others.

In every prayer I did not forget I gave a prayer to my parents.

bunny friend we can learnt from older this is not surely but we can learn every day some thing different from some people

Kebaikan seorang ayah lebih tinggi daripada gunung dan kebaikan seorang ibu lebih dalam dari pada laut.

Grandmother taught some home remedies.

the whole analogy of stop and smell the roses

There is always light at the end of the tunnel.

"Say YES more... Because one day when you are old, you will wish you did more not less!"

i upvote this post, plz same for me

To be thankful for each and every day.

I can learn good decision making process from older people.

From them you learn what you want to know. In them there is wisdom and experience ready to be shared with each one of us, you just need to know how to listen to them and want to learn from them.

When people reach my age, they start to take themselves and the world around them and their lives a little too serious.

My father and other people who were twice to thrice my age showed me how that is actually quite pointless. They just loved to live, lived to laugh and had a great time overall to the best of their ability.

Why so serious?

I learned from older people respec, love & dignity of work.

I learned that parents does not need fancy gifts but the presence of their kids.

Drunk people are stupid lol

All of this has happened before, and it will all happen again.

Focusing on my hea> ling process from an infection I do not know how I got it

I have many things learned from older people,Such as if you are at the peak of your emotions never make a big decision that can change your life,To avoid regret at the end.

Another is that respect your parents, they are the most important person in your life.Follow what they says and love them until the end of time.
We should have respect each other...we should obey someone ..Respect all people despite of their status in life and consider and treat them as your brothers and sisters.
Respect be gets respect.
Share your blessings with others.

Extend help to all who needs help..Respect all people despite of their status in life and consider and treat them as your brothers and sisters.
Respect be gets respect.
Share your blessings with others.

Extend help to all who needs help.
And lastly,
Bear the spirit of gratitude.Be thankful always in everything that you receive it may small or big, grateful person is a happy person.

I have learnt from their teachings that their own mistakes should bemy own examples, so that where they got it wrong I thrive in that aspect

I have learnt proper time management from my grand father. He told me to give proper time to every task yoy want to do. Set a time limit and finish within set limit.

I've learned a lot from elders but the most important thing that I learned is never be too lazy to try new things, cause we'll never know what life throws at us which may hinder us from trying out new things :)

My mother-in-law told me over 30 years ago that inside she always feels 18 years old. I am now the age she was then and I wish she was still here so I could tell her she was right!

I have learnt how to success in life and i also learnt respect and lot of things from them.

Learnt responsibility.
Much of quality values.

Value your time

our seniors are a school of life full of lived experiences that share their experiences with love and wisdom

Always be grateful

The older people than this generation are much decent and honest i think. So the main thing i learned from them behavior and honesty.

What I have learned from my elders, or wisdom that they taught me is that on everyday struggle that we met in life, we should not disregard them as an obstacle in life. They are in fact, blessings in disguise to shape up our own image, our own personality to nurture us for a brighter future.

Another thing I learned from my elders is that, we should be thankful everyday to God for every new day He has given us for another life to live. We should live life to the fullest and consider each day as if it's our last. We should not waste our lives for hate, grudge, and bitterness to others, coz our life is too short to waste on those such negativities.

My elders taught me also that each person we have met in life has certain purpose why we met them. They can be instruments for our personality development, they can be helpful along the way, or they can be a part of something we have for our own awakening.

But most of all my elders taught me that we should respect them too, as well as to our parents. We should love them with all of our hearts, coz we only get one-time parents. Respect them, so that once our time to become as parents too, our children will pay respect for us too. It's human nature that the good begets goodness and the bad begets worse.

These were all the wisdom that my elders have taught me as one of their legacies that made me of what I am now. So I do hope your elders taught you the way mine do. Or if you have any, share to us yours too.

That's all for elders' gift of wisdom for me. What's yours? Tell us your story. :)

That experience doesn't mean knowledge.

Listen to sound advice

I learnt the value of time from my grandma and the most important thing is not to postpone any work. I too personally experienced the risks of postponing works.
I believe in old people as they have a lot of experience in their lives.

Kata Kata untuk Orang Tua Tersayang Terbaik

Words for the Best Parents Best

Everyone should enjoy their lives at its best. Once we get old, we cant do anything what we want.

I learnt the value of people which is lost nowadays

We have to give the best to mom and dad. happy him while they are still alive. Although currently can not be happy parents. We just make them smile by saying a beautiful word for them to ride. Do not let us regret it because it can not make them happy.
