100 Days of Poetry Challenge
-----Update [Day 2]-----
Winners of Day 1 Announced!Introduction
Hey everyone. I finally finished going through all the entries for day one. What a journey! How diverse our poetic qualities! Instead of feeling behind, I'm feeling quite giddy. For now, categorization largely done, I can entreat some fellow poets to help me going into Day 2 and beyond.
Normally, I hope to have these posts published much earlier in the day, but for Day One I needed to go through slowly and comment on each post, correct aspects that didn't follow the guidelines, ask the poets for their own categorization of themselves, etc. Now without further ado let's look at a few things to clear up some confusion, and announce our first winners.
Changes to challenge operation & reminders
First, I want to add something that I intended to be in the rules all along, yet neglected to add. For this challenge, please do not just upload old poems that you wrote in the past. This challenge is about creating 100 new pieces of writing. If you did it for day 1 or 2 that is fine, but please, none going forward.
Please note the beginning and ending time of days and stick to them to the best of your ability! So many are stating their confusion. Please use this tool to see what time 6 PM GMT is in your part of the world. https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html Day Two began at 6 PM GMT on March 8. It will end on March 9 at 6 PM and Day Three will begin. It is your responsibility to calculate the time in your local area and keep track of this. If you are a few hours early or late, that is ok. But stay as close to the schedule as you can.
Some people wanted to join the challenge but did not post on Day 1 and did not communicate with me saying they skipped day one. If I didn't have your skill level you have been automatically placed in Beginner until I hear from you. If I don't hear from you by Day 3 I will be taking your name off the list.
Others have been continually commenting on the original post wanting to join. We officially stopped taking new entrants a couple of days ago, so as much as I would like to allow late jump-ins, we already have a huge enough group to manage. You are still welcome to attend our classes and join in our group momentum!
Otherwise, I may have missed a couple of people that I spoke to directly confirming that I would allow them to jump in late. If I forgot you and this is the case, please keep messaging and commenting me until you get a hold of me so we can get you on the list.
Everyone in the contest that posted on Day 1 should have gotten a comment from me by now on your first post. If you didn't and thought you were in the challenge, please let me know ASAP!
Winners
I'm very happy to announce the first day's winners of the daily 3 SBD prize in each category. There were so many incredible entries. These were just a sampling of all that magnificence. Luckily for everyone else, there are still 99 more chances :-D
Beginner — @corderosiete
"Sea of forgetfulness"Intermediate — @girlbeforemirror
"Looking down the vortex"Advanced — @carmalain7
"The End of the Twentieth Century"Please go check out these pieces and support the authors. Great work! I will be sending them 3 SBD each right after I post this (so as to not spoil the surprise!)
Class recap
We held our second poetry class earlier today at 7PM GMT. Again we had a great turnout. We discussed "What even is poetry?!" going into musings about the odd metamodern era in which we find ourselves wherein the lines become so blurred that it is difficult to entirely say! We had a lot of discussion on "What is your poetic process?" hearing great input from @hartfloe, @carmalain7 and @acousticsteveo. Between us four it was evident that there are as many ways of conceiving of and creating poetry as there are human beings on this planet!
Tomorrow's class will be dedicated to beginners in poetry especially. We are going to be asking "What do you find most confusing/intimidating/frustrating about writing poetry? What attracts you to writing it despite these aspects?" If you haven't attended a class yet, please do. It's a very open atmosphere and we love hearing input from many different people. All three winners from Day 1 are invited to read their piece during this session and speak about its conception, meaning, process of writing it, etc. Class 3 will be held at 7 PM GMT on March 9. Workshops
Still no workshops yet announced, mainly because 80% of my time in the past couple days has been devoted to getting the basic aspects of this challenge off the ground. If you are interested in teaching one or have an idea for one you'd like to see, please contact me, especially after this first week and things settle into a smoother rhythm.
Thank you for your entries!
This has been absolutely amazing so far. I truly believe that something as simple as the practice of writing poetry consistently can improve one's life in a variety of surprising ways. It is my mission to spread this art form not as an elitist craft for the gifted—but for all who muster the courage to open their minds and hearts to its grace.
Thank you for your donations!
I'm extremely grateful for all of your generous donations. The gesture means so much, regardless of the amount. To donate, send STEEM or SBD to @d-pend with memo "Donation for 100 day poetry challenge" and I will be keeping track of all of them in a spreadsheet. Thank you so much!!

congratulations to the winners. I hope I can attend the discord poetry sessions. As I am a full time dementia care giver, I am really kind of frog jumping between rooms and miss most activity

Congratulations to the winners.
I got some questions to ask.
1 You talked about the limit of winning to be used, when will that be implemented.
2 you said we have a seven day skip for the whole of 100 days. Now what if a person skips more than two days in a week or skips more than 7 days for the whole 100 days. What is the penalty. I asked you that question on discord but got no response

I have thought about this more @inspiredgideon1. There will be no limit to winning. I want the best content to be rewarded. That being said, if someone is winning repeatedly they will be moved up in category.
Thanks for bringing that up about the skip days. More information will come out on this. But most likely 2 skip days in a row is the max you can do and remain in the challenge. 3 days off is too much momentum dropped and you will be removed from the active challenge.
Same thing will more than 7 (unless it is increased.) You will be removed from the active curation of the challenge.

Hi @d-pend I am really missed it because I was out for some days. I would really like to compete from today in your 100 day challenge if possible. Thank you for organizing this contest. I have been writing poetry for quite a time in my local language, and began writing in english from a while ago.

it started at 6 pm gmt, we are currently day 2, day 3 starts in 8 hours. I think when some people signed up they thought they need to submit one piece prior to the commencement date, (I wondered if I was late as a few people posted early). I use this converter when I enter contests, I can see at a glance exactly what day and time it is in my part of the world. https://www.worldtimebuddy.com/

I just came across this post a while ago, and it saddens me because I really want to join this 100 days poetry challenge but I'm 3 days late😔 This is a very exciting and a motivating contest I wish I could still join in. Nonetheless, thank you for hosting this school of poetry at discord this is a really great avenue for sharing your skills and in the process helping us the beginners in honing and appreciating more poetry in its varid forms.😊

I uploaded my first poem today on the 9th. Does. That mean that I won’t be allowed to join the challenge. I am so sorry but I am very new to Steemit and still getting the hang of all the different components. Right now I have joined the discord channel and uploaded the link to my post there as well as here. There is just so much commenting going on! You must be superhuman to be able to keep track of everything. Please help me join the challenge as I feel this will be a good chance to learn more by doing on steemit. Thank you so much for your time . I understand you must have a lot of other things to take care of and I appreciate all and any help you can give me! Cheers xoxo Niki. My work can be found at #niki
