A BOTTLED MESSAGE
Sally was a very beautiful and energetic girl everyone loved. She had good grades and all. One could say her life was perfect. We had been friends since childhood and spent everyday in each other's company. You could imagine how devastated I was when I received the news of her illness. She was down with cancer and had few months to live.
Sally was determined never to let her illness define her. She was going to live her life to the fullest and I planned on helping her with that.
We hung out as we used to and for a while, it felt like everything was normal. We almost forgot she was sick. At a point, she was in and out of the hospital and was becoming a shadow of herself. I could not stop counting the days as they went by.. I was loosing my best friend and there was nothing I could do about it.
We were at the beach one Saturday when Sally asked for my pen. She scribbled something on a piece of paper and when I asked her what she wrote, she handed it over to me and it read;
'life is what you make of it'
Xoxo
I smiled and handed it back to her. She put it in a bottle, corked it and we threw it into the water watching the wave carry it as the sunset.
