Eurovision Young Dancers is a biennial dancing contest. Participants in an age range from 16 to 21 without a professional contract can compete in ballet, contemporary and modern style (everything mixed together). The whole event was broadcasted y EBU.

All the dancers arrive one week prior the main event. During that time they have to undergo trainings with an assigned choreographer and learn a specific group dance. They also have to cooperate with their own choreographer, because each dancer also has to present their own piece of art.

After the long week everyone presents those two dances. Judges then select two best dancers that have to duel each other in a semi-choreographed and semi-freestyle dance.

I could have luckily been a part of this endeavour. My job during the contest was a “information mediator”. The contest was a HUGE event. There were numerous subjects that had their own needs and demands. Some wanted to do an interview with the dancer, some wanted to film something with them, some of them needed the dancers to be somewhere at exact time, or the very opposite, etc. I had to deliver the vital information in time. Basically I had to make sure that the dancer (but not only him, rather the whole delegation) will be on time where they were needed with the right tools.

When I think about it, the job was a perfect match for an information scientist. This really was one of the best practice I could have had. I had huge responsibility (if I failed, the whole delegation could have failed because of me) and at the same time I had just a few tasks every single day. I had to choose what relevant information is and what would be just a waste of time for the delegation and myself.
I think that I have succeeded. The delegation had fun with me, they received all the important information even though I often time looked like I have no clue what is going on (I can do that really well…). Unfortunately my charge Danila Kapustin (the guy on nearby pictures) did not succeed and Poland took the win. Well…maybe next time!
