STACH Short Story Contest #21: 199 words, 5 winners, 15SBD prize pool!

Terry was an aspiring footballer; he knew how to play football. He was very skillful at it. Every one tipped him for greatness. He was called several names: Papillo, Messi and Thierry. He understood the tactics of football so well that it seemed the ball always obeyed his every touch. He became popular and the girls queued up for him.

Even though he was a womanizer people still loved him but quite a few advised him. He always thought that advice were for mediocre people never for a very talented person like him. His father advised him to learn a business skill so that he can fall back on something if his dream of playing did not materialize but he felt his father was not serious.

One day, when he was returning from the field, an on rushing car came from nowhere and swept him off the road, he injured his leg badly. When it healed he could no longer use it as efficiently as he used to. With no more hope of playing football and no skill to fall back on he understood that pride comes before dishonor and a stitch in time can save nine.
