Since the original idea behind these giveaways was to help redfish and minnows, and with the proliferation of autobots in the system, I believe we need a method of building REAL community. As long as I have enough Steem Power, I will be up-voting those who participate in these weekly contests so that at minimum participants will receive increased rank and a small amount of Steem. If each participant ALSO up-votes the others here, we will form a small community of little fish helping each other out! Participating here involves actually reading the post and making a reply, which is what the platform is asking us to do.

Each week's contest will require entrants to select a number between 111 and 666.

How this contest works

  • The contest is intended for lower-ranking members who could use the money (whales and dolphins are encouraged to upvote and increase the prize pool and/or comment rewards. Your support is greatly appreciated!).
  • The contest will run for 1 week and close on Nov. 22, 2017.
  • Entrants will select a number between 111 and 666 and in the replies to this post they will write, "ENTRY GUESS" followed by their chosen number. This should be the first thing they write, followed by anything they feel will add value to the post. This can be something as simple as a famous quote you copy and paste from the Internet (as long as you provide attribution), something of interest to you that you would like to share, a joke, etc.
  • The winner(s) will have guessed all 3 numbers in the correct order and if nobody guesses correctly, then at least 2 of the 3 numbers rolled by 3 6-sided dice rolls must be achieved or the prize rolls over to the following week.(NOTE that there will be no numbers 7, 8, 9 or 0). Example: Dice rolls = 456. Players guessed 152, 256, 416, 555, and 645. Guesses 256 and 416 would split the prize for each having 2 of the 3 numbers in the correct places.
  • The prize pool will consist of ALL the SBD earned by this posting PLUS a minimum bonus of 2 SBD to which 0.25 SBD will be added for each valid entry up to a maximum of 5 SBD added to the post reward. Plus the total prize pool not won previously.
  • In order to win, you MUST have upvoted the original post and written something interesting. @nnnarvaez will be awarding the most interesting comment an additional prize of a full-power up-vote at his discretion.

Upvoting this posting will increase the prize pool, so be sure to ask your friends and followers to upvote, even if they are not entering!

The winner of Giveaway #0023 (last week) will be announced in a separate posting.

A bit of background about our sponsor:

@nnnarvaez has shown that he truly cares about this platform and is doing his utmost to make this a better place by using his expertise where it will do the most good.

  • He is attempting to create incentive for people to comment on articles and actually discuss things.
  • He believes that scripts can be used to do the 'heavy lifting', freeing people to engage in more discussions. As an example of the good work he does, @nnnarvaez built the script that runs the good bot Jack.
  • He has worked with @steemcleaners to hunt down a 3,200 account bot net and protect innocent accounts.
  • He has just recently set up his own server so that he can help add blocks to the blockchain and keep Steemit running smoothly as a witness. I highly recommend voting for him as a witness.

@nnnarvaez has discovered a Canadian witness that he believes is worth supporting and recommends you also vote for @guiltyparties as a witness.
To vote for a witness, you need to be logged in with your active key, so have it handy when you are ready to vote. To vote for witnesses not in the top 50, simply insert their name into the text box at the bottom of the witness list and click on the VOTE button.

Suggested topic for this week:

How does it make you feel when you see the words "give-away" in this contest as opposed to "contest"?

Is one more enticing than the other? Please describe what these words do for you.

If you feel more energetic: can you think of anything else that could be used to describe this contest that would make it more appealing?

Contest sounds greater than Give-away.
Maybe I am saying this because I haven't won your giveaway even once..

I think you can make the zombie game a contest. In that case, you will get a lot of player. And you can make the game a little harder.

Contests make people work hard where giveaway to random someone doesn't. People is attracted to contests. If your giveaway had greater chance of winning, then it would attract more people.

You can make this contest as Joke Contest/ Art Contest/ Poem Contest/ Story Contest/ Photography Contest or any contest you want.

Thanks for the input. Much appreciated.

as for:

If your giveaway had greater chance of winning, then it would attract more people.

My contest was super-easy to win. With roughly a half-dozen contestants, the odds were very good. Yet, not much action. The prize was too small I think. Now that it is harder and the prize rolls over, it seems there might be a little more interest. Go figure! (that's just an expression to indicate confusion. I noticed English may not be your first language, so I think I may need to explain those crazy expressions we use.)

Haha.. You already have pretty good idea what to do.. :D

Right now, I try to participate in these people's contests @fibra59 , @kid4life, @libert, @helene, @terrycraft.
You probably know some of them. You may check their contests out for better ideas. But as for the giveaway options, I can't help you that much.

When I was a beginner, Giveaways were the best places for me to visit. But now that I have grown a little, I am trying to improve my influence through the Contests.

I hope you are getting what I am trying to say.

No, actually I don't know those people. Thanks... I may need to check them out and see if I can grow a little faster. As it is now, I'm giving away my entire SBD earnings for the week, so my own growth is very slow.

I agree that contests are a great way to grow for us small fry. It also gets you some exposure. The more people see your name, the more they can relate to you.

YEAH. What you are doing right now(the giveaway) is not bad.
It makes minnow people follow you.

But Contest are a little different. It consists of minnows and whales. Orcas dont usually take part in the contests from what I have seen.

Making another whale such as youself follow you is a great thing. More of all, they have to check out your contests post weekly atleast :D

I'm actually curious what your native language is

If you are asking me, It's Bangla.

The quickest way to double your money is to fold it over and put it back in your pocket.

You can still double it up if you fold again your pocket.😁🤣

I think contest sounds much more appealing. It shows, that you acutally have to do something in order to participate and that you have a good chance because you put a valid effort in it.

Thanks for this great idea to make us little fish grow :)

Super! Thanks for your input and may you succeed in growing quickly.

Thanks ;)

I'm just throwing a few cents your way in the form of an upvote... always happy to support any initiatives that encourages HUMANS rather than bots and automation.

Thanks Denmarkguy. That is very kind of you. I'm putting pretty much all the SBD I make all week into this for the past 4 weeks trying to get it to catch on and become more self-supporting. It looks like its going to take a few months! Then again, if Bernie Sanders succeeds in killing off the other vote-bots, we may actually get more real voting happening again soon!

ENTRY GUESS 222

For me personally, "giveaway" and "contest" are functionally identical. If I see it in the title of a post on Steemit, I know I need to read the article for further details before I can form any opinions about that particular contest. As a general observation, it seems that "contest" posts have a greater tendency to ask its participants to utilize a specific skill (e.g. trivia, math, predicting sports outcomes, etc.), whereas "giveaway" posts tend to be simpler (follow the rules, write XXXX, and you're entered). In that sense, the word "giveaway" is more appropriate for your contest.

What I think would be even better is if you called it a "Discussion and Giveaway", since the rules were changed a few weeks back to require contributory material. I would also hope that this would filter out folks who want to just leave a guess with nothing else, while attracting more people who just want a place to say something (that isn't their own blog which is likely getting drowned and completely ignored in the world of Steemit).

So that's my thoughts on your suggested topic of the week. In other news, it seems like the upvote bot issue/drama might be coming to a head this weekend. From what I've been reading, it seems like berniesanders shut down randowhale so he could prepare for war against minnowbooster. With the bidbots getting saturated with collective overbids, a successful attack on minnowbooster would mean that paid voting bots would be good for nothing more than a meager return on investment (unless you happen to like lending SBD out to a bot and receiving interest in the form of reputation). I think that it's probably a good time for bot users (and the watchers opposed to them) who are "in the know" to lay off for a few days, sit back, and open up a bag of popcorn.

Good old Bernie Sanders to the rescue! He's the one who started this whole BOT vote mess. At least now he is also the one taking responsibility to shut them down. I don't know his motive, but I do like the result! I read about it a day or 2 ago and am thrilled. Perhaps now the reward pool can fill up a bit and the distribution will go wider.

Thanks for your input on the word usage. Its always nice to know how others are reacting to what is written.

Think of Steem in future dollar potential. If you earn $1 on a post and you think STEEM is going to $25 in a few years then you really earned $25

Here is a black and white art of mine :)

IMG_20171109_145137.jpg

That looks like a professional piece of art! Nice work.

Thanks a lot. I can't be called a professional though.
I lack in arts in many different way.

Professional only means that you make a living from doing it. The word is often used incorrectly to mean GOOD. Professionals are not always good at their profession.

My use was to indicate that your drawing was as good as those I see from people who charge money for their art.

Sorry for getting ahead of myself.
I mistook the meaning just like you said. My bad ;p

All over the social media and platforms the majority of the posters are using Pseudonyms.
People have changed their names because of fear over racism or bias for centuries. But experts say that as social media becomes plays a more central role in people’s career ambitions, pseudonyms are becoming more common. What do you think about this and why are we all hiding our identity in social media?

It's all privacy really. Plus I guess some people would rather create a persona for themselves online, a chance to escape reality and make an attempt at being the person they want to be. That's a double edge sword though really

The power of Satan will carry me to victory some day! :P

Maybe you should take out 0024 and just leave as "#24" at a quick glance to people who probably wont read the post properly ( I've been guilty of that ) apart from the percentage it is the first number you see in the title so the 0024 could almost be mistaken as the amount of SBD been given away. Now I am only assuming that someone is a moron when they read it like that but I guess you should never underestimate the stupidity of others.

"Given away" is probably the more appealing words to use but It does imply that you don't have to do anything for it, so maybe try the word contest so people know there are rules.

Thanks for the input. I used the preceding zeros in order to indicate that I plan on doing these contests for a very long time. It also keeps all the contests in order in my file folder. I've had numbers get out of order where 10 comes before 9 because 1 comes before 9.

That's interesting about 'given away' being more appealing to you. I wonder how many others feel the same?

Looking over a few comments there I think " contest" appears to be a little more popular. Just in case you need some input from captain obvious

IDK... The way I read it I would say its 2 - 1 for Giveaway, with the others being kind of non-committal or unclear of intent. Am I reading it wrong?

ENTRY GUESS 326

Thanks for this post, great help for the low rank steemians like me

If you want your guess to count, you must include the 2nd part of the requirements. Please add something interesting. You may answer the suggested topic question I asked (in a reply to myself) and that will count.

for me when I see the word giveaway only one thing put in my mind "giving something for free"..Free, that I can get something or anything without a cost and in the world of steemit I join some contest just to get free some sbd's,steem and etc. for free

Thank-you. Your entry is now valid.
