[Contest] 100-follower milestone - SP delegation

in contest •  7 years ago

It was about a week ago that I reached 100 followers

I thought it was a pretty significant milestone. It took me a good amount of time to reach it, from my perspective. Because of this, I made a post inquiring if a contest/giveaway in recognition for reaching that milestone was a good idea.

I got some good feedback, both for and against the idea. After some recent Steemit occurrences and breakthroughs - I had a bit of a eureka moment regarding what the contest could be.

The contest could revolve around delegating SP to someone for a medium to long term period of time. The amount of SP may vary as well as the number of delegatees that are selected. I know that this won't be appealing to everyone, because at the current moment, my SP is nothing to brag about. But I think conceptually it's a good idea and I feel like I have enough to engage someone who is just starting out. Hopefully to encourage them to participate more.

My initial thoughts on what SP is and how the contest could work are below.

What does delegating SP mean to me?

The way I view delegating SP is that the person giving their SP is trusting someone else to use part of their ability to upvote. In turn that person is helping to curate, hopefully substantial content. Since good is subjective I'd rather not use that word here to describe content that is to be upvoted.

Upvoting in essence shouldn't [only] be viewed as a way to give someone rewards in the form of money. The monetary value could perhaps be seen as an incentive to create more substantial content.

If and when I do delegate SP to someone as a result of this contest, it is by no means requiring them to automatically upvote my content. If that was the case I would keep the SP for myself. I do however hope that the person is interested in my content and would do so willingly and sincerely. I'm more interested in active participation and actually engaging with anyone following me or happening to come across my content.

Having said that, I'm not just going to give my SP to anyone. I will elaborate more on that below. But I'm ultimately looking for Steemians that are like minded and have the same interests as me. So they would by default want to interact with me. Again receiving upvotes is NOT the ultimate goal nor is it a requirement.

Concept

Delegate 50-100 SP to someone that follows me and actively interacts with me. They don't have to like or even upvote my content. I'm just looking for someone who follows me because they actually enjoy my content or are actively engaging (whether positively or not) with my content.

How will I select the lucky delegatee(s)?

So first and foremost this is my SP and my rules. So while I will try to be as objective as possible, I will ultimately be choosing the recipient of my SP using my own subjective opionon and judgement after they have met the following criteria:

1. Must be actively following me.

2. Must comment (substantially) on any two of my previous posts.

Pick two past posts of mine that interest you. And make a comment on it. This doesn't mean say hi or good job sir. So choose the post wisely or make your response good enough so that it gets noticed and is engaging. Also if you're already an active follower and feel like a past comment of yours fulfills this, then it can be submitted as an entry in this category. Feel free to make a new post in reference to mine if you want something to post about. (just make sure you submit it so that I see it.)

3. Must comment (substantially) on one of my upcoming new posts.

The same guidelines apply here as described above in Item 2 above. I'm going to leave this open for a week or two so be patient if you don't see a post that engages you.

4. If selected, must remain active and engage my content.

Pick one post a week and comment something substantial on it. If you truly are not inspired or interested in anything I've posted that week let me know! Explain what it is that is lacking or something that haven't been doing that will keep you engaged. Otherwise maybe it's time we part ways.

How to participate?

Reply to this thread, showing that all of the above criteria are met. Either all at once or as they are completed.

Timeframe / duration of delegation

I haven't determined what the time frame should be. It could be indefinite depending on a lot of factors. If the person fails to meet the criteria then they would automatically get the SP revoked. Mind you it takes about 5 days for the delegator to get their SP back - the revoking is immediate though. Also I'm open to increasing the number of Steemians that I delegate SP to.

Feel free to give me feedback - I'm always open to suggestions

That's all I have for now. I'm really interested in this conceptually. Hopefully all Steemians understand it and want to support it as well. If that is not the case though please tell me what you think might need to be changed, work better, etc.

This is very nice of you @hrissm!
I'm not entering your contest as I already have a delegation from another generous steemian, but I wanted to tank you for doing this <3

I think it is a very good, generous idea and reminds me that I have to make a post about delegation :P
I do not have a suggestion for the moment, but if I think of something I will let you know!

thanks :) looking forward to your delegation post. i always seem to learn something new

Tub Cat appreciates this idea. Delegation doesn't cost you anything but is of great value to the person who receives it. Especially if the delegation is enough to give them the little slidy bar so they can choose how much to vote with.

well done human. A grand idea.

thanks for the positive feedback! nice to hear from you as well!

on the slide bar note - that would be more sp than i have to delegate. but if you try busy.org - in their settings menu there is an option to add a slider.

I think this is an awesome idea. I can’t participate because I’m already a lucky (ab)user of your sp haha... but good luck everyone! :)

Really intriguing. The awesome feeling of wanting to give back to your community.. Here it's not restricted to tribe but made available to all those who support good content.

I hope to be a beneficiary of this great project. Ewen though I just cam to know you, I have already looked at your previous works.. And am quite motivated that despite your reputation, you are already impacting the Steemit world positively. Weldon sir!
