DnW Poetry Contest #2 New Theme and Announcement of Winners!!

GRATITUDE

@deeday31 and I are very much grateful to those who participated in our first ever collaborated poetry contest. We really assumed that only few will participate like only 5 participants, but, 25 amazing Steemians joined and showcase their talents.

Yes, because of so much happiness and gratitude, I upvoted all of the participants and for the very first time, I experienced a voting power as low as 40%. I hope that my little amount of upvote helps you in a little way.

WINNERS

The rules were stated. Four quatrains but some made three somw made more than four. As much as we want to reconsider, it will be very unfair to the others who follow the rules.

All entries are amazing and wonderfully made plus the art! It was a joy to see you all trying to make your own header image. Thank you so much!

We tabulated and come up with results. It was a tough decision. We read it twice and evaluated it separately.

First

Our Memories Together

For everyone, there is a beginning.
Me and you together was so fitting.
The sec we met it was easy to tell
our inverse attitudes would really gel.

Early each morning we’d go to the gym.
A fruitless attempt to try to get slim.
It was fruitless because once we got back,
we’d head to the kitchen for a big snack.

We would work and play together each day.
But I was moved to Texas, so far away.
Then one day, while I was still missing you,
you called to say you moved to Texas too.

A new beginning for us in that State,
turned out the start of a little too late.
You got diabetes and then you died.
The beginning for you on the other side.

Second

The Beginning of Love

On a cold night, he gave me his jacket
A single kind gesture, that's how it started
We sat and talked, then stared at the moon
I was lost in his eyes, a little too soon?

The night was long, and so was his hair
I knew he was trouble, but I didn't care
I talked about the party, he talked about life
He wanted to be a surgeon, I wanted to be his wife

He sat real close, so I leaned on his shoulder
He pulled me in tight, when it got colder
I liked the feeling, of being with him
So I just sat there, till things became dim

The sun came up, and we were still there
I could finally see his face, and it became clear
I'd fallen for him, all in one night
Our love story begins, Me and Mr right

The Beginning of 2018 is Frozen

I’m by the coast,
but I can’t see the ocean.
Supposed to be some sun,
but here I’m truly frozen.

Do a little hip-hop;
watching the degrees drop.
Yeah, I’m from the south but,
I can’t wear no flip flops.

Freezing off my little booty
Go and grab my favorite hoodie
Won’t see me driving round,
Cause folks on the roads are super loony.

Shelves be empty in all the stores
Cause they’re calling for some flurries
Got a generator for when the lights go out
So, I ain’t got no worries.

The Beginning with Him

Calendars are fast in changing
I felt like I’m already aging
I haven’t known yesterday’s the ending
So fast that today’s the new beginning

Praying this year will be amazing
Like the stars that I am gazing
Wishing love , hope, and kindness are spreading
In this world that somehow cruel to human being

But don’t lose hope on Him
Even if you wanted to shout and scream
Life may be cold as an ice cream
But don’t be sad and just keep dreaming

Years and years we’ll be counting
But don’t forget in thanking Him
For he has given us another beginning
To live in his love that is without an ending

A Critical Beginning

to be born in the hands of poverty
is to be born in silence
you get to keep your identity
but you cannot be heard

is there an end to this social disability?
is there a new beginning of this darkness?
when hope arises, can i be saved by this indignity?
O these questions, I am glad I could bear

gone are the days of fatality
to look beyond the present
is to look beyond criticality
The key for a new beginning

the hands of poverty
that familiar word
no longer fits in me
for I am a new beginning
