This structure have special name - stabilimentum - and is the trademark of this species - wasp-spider Argiopa. The function of stabilimentum as long as I know still unclear to science.

I read that those zippers, like the ones on @hangin 's photo are called stabilimentum. Besides making the web stronger one theory is that they make the web more visible and alert birds and larger animals to the fact that it's there to keep it from being destroyed.

Hi @kus-knee! Can't believe I missed this contest! But I haven't been here for a while.
Anyway, instead of a photo (contest is over) here is a video I've recorded some years ago with my photo camera!! Very hard job! My recording, I mean. ;) (Not Spider's job! That one looks like a piece of cake! ) Glad I've chosen music that matches the work. Hope u agree. ;)
