Hey again, steemitizens!

I just wanted you followers to be first to know about this secret insider information about my latest big project.

I'm starting work on a new website for a tool that I think the steemit community badly needs, which should be done for you to start using in maybe about a week or so. Don't quote me on the week, because it may be more or less, as software development schedules are predictably unpredictable. Especially when they are hobby efforts done on the side from higher priority things in life. But trust that I am applied to building this and getting it done ASAP, as I really think the idea has real merit and is much needed by us all. I will be a user of my own system.

So what is this miracle monster?

Check THIS out!

Without further ado...

Please let me introduce you to the next big thing in steemit.com contests & challenges!

Located @ http://SteemChallenge.com

You can read the following introductory announcement here, and it's also currently posted on the home page at steemchallenge.com as well. In it, I try to briefly explain the need I identified, the goal for the directory and the plan to get it up and running.

Here is the official announcement post (right now, just the home page of steemchallenge.com content)

The SteemChallenge Directory Is Almost Ready!

Hello, Steemitizens and welcome to SteemChallenge.com!

SteemChallenge.com aims to fill what I see as a gap on steemit.com by offering a one-stop directory for all the fun and exciting contests and challenges that are constantly being created and offered by various, generous steemitizens!

Currently, you might get lucky and notice one of these contests of interest in your feed, but if you blink, you’ll probably miss it. You can try to remember when recurring contests occur and search for them by the contest tag on steemit, but that assumes you know and can remember all the random tags you want to search for or follow. But what if a photographer, or a writer or an artist or a meme creator or a crypto coin speculator or whatever type of challenge a person seeks, could be located all in one place, in a neat, tidy, handy and useful list? Then you could spend your valuable time entering contests, instead of trying to figure out where and when they are happening or missing out on them completely!

Contest creators are also having troubles of their own. They spend hours thinking up an idea for a challenge, craft all the rules and make the promotional posts, and nobody sees them. Or they find themselves down in the comments, answering questions and spending time promoting the event instead of managing the game or making up more fun things for us to together. Challenge and contest creators work hard on these, to create them, run them and manage them as they progress. I'll give them a place to list their stuff where the right people will seek it, see it, and see them sooner rather than later!

When I launch the operational version of SteemChallenge.com in the next week or two. hopefully sooner, I will offer a searchable directory where contest creators can list their contests by category and type, and it will be a beneficial solution for both creators who want to bring traffic to their posts, and contest fans, who want to be able to quickly located all the contests in the categories that interest them, so that they can get busy being creative and entering contests and quit wasting time trying to find them, or worse, discovering them after it’s too late to enter.

Initial milestones in store for the minimum viable product release of steemchallenge.com will be to create the directory, get some helpful instructions for users in place and start letting people know it exists as a resource for the community to partake in.

Future milestones MAY include offering contest owners a home page to store rules and other information on in a central place, or to market their contests in an additional location beyond the posts they make, which so often get buried in the steem before everyone can have a chance to notice them or see them and read them. Another potential feature would be advertising locations on these pages for contest owners to purchase and market their contests with more visibility to contest seeking steemchallenge directory users.

I’m open to suggestions.

Steemchallenge will always be free for steemitizens to search and find contests to enter.

In order to support the effort of creating and maintaining this tool. I will be asking contest owners who list in the directory to submit a small fee. I am still working out exactly what the economics are to provide hosting, development hours, occasional costs related to outsourcing tasks on the site I cannot do myself while operating this system. (Steem gigs may become opportunities now and then to get some of this done!)

I look forward to feedback, suggestions and your fervent anticipation of this cool new tool. I'm excited for it to exist myself, as I love to play the contests and challenges here on steemit.com that you fine folks invent, create, produce and execute for us all out of sheer generosity and passion for the games and hobbies they are comprised of! I like to play the writing contests for example, but maybe you like the photography games or the trivia type? I hope to list them all eventually, with the help of the content creators themselves.

I hope you are as excited about having this resource, as I am about building it and offering it back to the steemit community!

Be sure to follow me on steemit.com for more details about the ongoing development of this site and news about it’s upcoming launch!

See you in the contests, games and challenges on steemit, and I'll find you through steemchallenge.com!

Full steem ahead, steemitizens!

Great thinking.... It will surely be a gamechanger... Good luck...

"gamechanger" - I see what you did there :P Thanks! Start spreading the word!

Yes... We hv to work hard to get noticed and these are some best ways to connect :)

100% agree. We have to build this eco-system ourselves. Steemit is cool but it has a long way to go to fill in all the blanks. In the meantime, folks like me will step up and handle it.

Yup very true...

Hell yes! A Fantastic resource indeed. I would use this every day all day. Can't wait to get in on the beta.

This is encouraging :)

I feel like Steemit as a whole could be a bit more more user friendly. (as far as finding what you want ) So I applaud you for doing something about it. Yay Contests!

Man, I've been building big systems my entire life. I fail this site on UI/UX issues in 10000 ways. But, it beats the alternatives.

Thanks for sharing! A link to your post was included in the Steem.center wiki page Steem Ecosystem:S-Z. Thanks and good luck again!

Holy cow, this just gets better and better! Thank you SO much!

I will do my best to contribute to making it the best place ever around here!

Thank you @steemcenterwiki!

I have not been involved in any of the challenges yet because I usually do not wind up coming across them until they are already in progress or almost finished so I think this is an awesome idea!!

I'm basking in the validation of the concept here! Thanks!

That will be an awesome tool! Resteemed

Thanks! It's almost ready! No more than a couple days till its game(s) on! :D

I welcome :)

Great idea! It will surely be an interesting enough... Good luck.

Thanks!

Thanks and this is so crazy making, knowing how long these posts have been getting published so widely.

"Honnor" != "Honor"

Great idea, especially as contests seem to take place across many different tags/categories.

As for a fee structure, that really depends on what the system can process; in the sense that a percentage fee might be equitable but difficult to calculate and then 'extract' from the contest owner. One thing possible is that an upvote is generated when a link is clicked, or before it is clicked to make it visible. Just ideas!

and take place across time zones! And geographies. Imagine hybrid online/offline challenges with locals! And on and on. I think I finally had my "best idea ever" here, if I may pat myself on the back a little out of sheer excitement about it and not sound overly grandiose and vain about it.

Oh the fee will be simple. A couple sbd or so depending on my hosting costs, still to be determined to a bot that enables your login to manage your contest listing on the directory. Bot votes are a good idea, thanks for that suggestion. I'll add it to the wishlist!

Oh I know the feeling. I curate the @math-trail and am finding mathematics in at least a dozen categories (not to mention singular and plurals)...
Full steem ahead, and good work!

I've got your back on the software, math guy, but I may come to you for help when I'm rich and can't count that high anymore. :D

This is an awesome initiative. Are you using WordPress?

I waffled hard, I have been a programmer for 30 years, and my instinct was to use a PHP framework and hand roll this, but I also have a real life to maintain and 1000 irons in the fire as a company owner with a full staff on multiple continents and clients all over the US, so I opted to roll in wordpress, yes. I can use a directory plugin I own a multisite pro license for and all I have to "solve" is the content listing payment mechanism in steem tansfers and bots to enable the contest owner accounts. Once that is worked out, i can turn on the rest and go live in a few days I presume.

With all that experience I'm sure you'll do a great job! I've no idea how to do programming at all.

Start now and call me in three decades! :D

Post is very good and very useful.
I will follow you because for me your post is very good.
