In the SPL, we celebrate losers. After all, even in a tournament of 50 players, there are bound to be 49 losers (you can’t all be Hoodish), but we still love each and every one of you.
Well, now you can win when you lose in the SPL! We are proud to announce the Bad Beat of the Week (BBOTW). Throughout the week with your help, we will share bad beats from the SPL. Each week a BBOTW will be crowned.
Here are the details:
What Qualifies As A Bad Beat?
This is not a bad beat jackpot, it’s simply to highlight a really tough loss in a hand. Bad beats might be when a player decides to call with 7 2 preflop and hits a full house against another player with QQ, or when JJ beats AA on the river to knock someone out on the final table of the Sunday 50 SBD tournament.
Judge Not Except if You're Hoodish Or B
The BBOTW will be judged by Hoodish (@michaelluchies) and @Bethalea, meaning they are not eligible to win the BBOTD prize (sucks to be them). However, if you see Hoodish lose a big hand, you can still submit it and be eligible to win a prize for capturing his pain in a screenshot. (B doesn't play like that)(lulz)
What’s The Prize?
This first week will be a test to see the amount of interest and support for this new effort. We will begin with a 2 SBD prize for the loser of the hand AND 1 SBD for the person who first submits the winning screenshot and information about the hand (simply how it played out) to @Michaelluchies on Discord. If multiple people lost in the bad beat hand, the winner of the prize will be the player who started with the best hand pre-flop.
Winner Winner, Chicken... oh, you know
BBOTW candidates will be published during the week. The winner will be determined by a final vote (votes * payout) each Sunday, ending at 5 PM Central during the 50 SBD tournament.
For Instance
Example: @Chops316 raises @Kingbum big pre-flop and Kingbum reraises. Chops then goes over-the-top all-in and Kingbum calls with KK. Chops has 74 off suit and the board comes KA444, giving him four-of-a-kind and the victory. @Generausd quickly takes a screenshot and submits the bad beat to @michaelluchies on Discord. If that voted to be the bad beat of the week, both @Kingbum would receive 2 SBD and @Generausd would receive 1 SBD.
The prizes will be funded by the tears of the players on the wrong side of bad beats and your upvotes, so if you love this idea and want to win for losing, please make sure to upvote the posts in this series each night.
How Can I Win?
Just play and be on the lookout for bad beats. The BBOTW can happen in cash games (ring games) or in tournaments. The higher the stakes, the more consideration a beat will get.
Other Rules
Maximum payout to one player for a BBOTD is 2 SBD, meaning you cannot win for both submitting and being the recipient of the BBOTD. You can submit the bad beat, you would just win for being the loser of the hand.
Each “week” will run from Sunday 5 PM Central to Sunday 5 PM Central, and the winner will be announced that night. Be on the lookout for these posts each week and the final vote posts on Sunday mornings.
You mean like the time I three bet pre-flop with pocket cowboys, steve called, the flop was 3 3 4, I shoved and Steve flipped over his 3 4 offsuit? Too bad I can't take screenshots of my nightmares.
I also love the fact I was the donk in the example. I'm the tightest player in the SPL! :)

lol. There is no way you're the tightest player in the SPL. I recently discovered that I'm not either. We are certainly not the loosest either.

I hope the effort gets traction and rewards spl, all participants and admin. I got to look up how to grab a quick screen shot for windows 10 to make this work. Will try to participate.
