She sat down on the floor of her kitchen, eyes swollen from crying profusely. She wished she could turn back the hands of time. It had been seven months since her fiance; Ejiro passed away.
He was everything to her. When she lost her family to a plane crash, he became her family and closest friend. Nobody loved her like he did. She shouldn't have asked him to come pick her up from the motor park that day. If only she had boarded a cab, he would still be alive. What if she didn't decide to come back that day, things wouldn't be the way they were; he'd be here cooking dinner for her. She barely ate these days; food had lost its taste. She looked terrible.
For her, life had lost its meaning, there was no point living. She wished death would just wrap her in its cold embrace.
Mrs Helen walked into the kitchen to see her on the floor crying. "My daughter, enough of the crying. He was my son too. Life as we know it, is unfair; the bad and the good suffer the same fate. Don't worry we'll overcome." She said

Life as we know it, is unfair; the bad and the good suffer the same fate. Don't worry we'll overcome.

Consoling words of an understanding mother. Life is really not fair as we know it.

Me: Hello, Good afternoon uncle. It's Joy your niece. Udeme's daughter.
Uncle Emma: Joy girl, how are you?
Me: I'm fine. How are you sir?
Uncle Emma: I'm alright.
Me: uncle I need your help.
Uncle Emma: yes what can I do for you?
Me: I need help to pay my fees. The deadline is in a week and I have not gotten any money to pay. If I don't pay in a week, the portal is going to close and I will just have to suspend studies for this semester. You are my last hope.
Uncle Emma: (laughs hard) So now you can call me to ask for money. I thought you and your mother stopped being Jehovah's Witnesses and even changed your surname from the normal name everyone in the family bears. How am I even sure you are now in school. I don't want to have anything to do with you, your brothers or even your mom and don't you ever call my line again. Rubbish.
(call ends)...
I used to think family should always be there for each other in the good and bad times but no, this is life as we know it.

Life as we know it, is a playground in which many games were played. We are the players of those games of Life. When we born, that time is a debut of our game career. In this game sometime we win and sometimes we lose. This is called life where everyone wants to win a game but some of them are the winner and some of them are losers.
Today I found this contest after loose a contest in which I thought that I win definitely but Life as we know it, is a game so I think I should not sit in depression, I should try another contest and overcome that failure.
That contest was a game of my life in which I lose but It does not mean I play any other game.
Life is a journey on which we embark and travel. In this journey, there are some big challenges and some are small but, In general, Life is a Life as we know it.
I say thanks to @stach for this contest because this contest gives me new rays to win a contest after losing in a contest.
Contests are really helpful for minnows.

💚

Really nice definition

Good job @steemitglass

life they say is full of ups and downs ,but is it really so ?

life as far as i am concerned is full of opportunities .

opportunities disguised to look like challenges

"life as we know it " is a journey clouded with so many distractions

distractions from friends, family ,hobbies and things we even have passion for.

you cannot get the best out of life without recognizing that challenges are the keys to success.

challenges of life as we know it are those stones or steps needed to be climbed to get to the next stage of our lives.

reminds of the story of the boy who wanted to be the best doctor in his community in his village and his classmate who wanted to be the best doctor in the world.

they both went to the same school and had same teacher , but their end won't be the same because the guy who wants to be the best in the world will obviously not only read what was taught in the class, because his dream is bigger than the class room he is in.

his poor school is his challenge but his dreams will scale

My Story.

My life was carefree and with no worries, I worked to achieve my goals and to be able to buy my first house with my husband, maybe my problems were not having enough money to go shopping. However, when I reached 37, I was diagnosed with cancer and my life was turned upside down, I had to fight a hard battle to overcome the disease and after my recovery I saw life in a different way. Now I’m more sensitive to the sick and those in need and try to help them as I can with the money I had previously used to buy clothes, not having enough money is not a problem, and I enjoy every minute with my family, I have also approached the church and appreciate being alive.

Life as I knew it before the illness is not the same for me right now, I see life with eyes of hope.

Note: It's based on my real story. Thank you for reading!

Perfection is a flaw compared to the integrity and commendable lifestyle Raymond had. Raymond is excellent perfection in every sense of the word. Angels in heaven would rate 2nd best; only Jesus the Son of God was beyond him. In the compound where we lived Raymond was the envy and wish of every parent. If it was possible to carry 0 instead of 1st as position Raymond would have had it cause he was extremely brilliant. My parents wouldn't fail to sell me off, add money and buy Raymond if possible.

Thief O! was the cry that woke up the neighborhood at about 5a.m. People have been complaining of missing livestock but nobody knew who the thief was. The day was still dark so we couldn't see the face of the thief. Before we knew it lights started shinning left and right from lamps and torches. Ewo! Mogbe! Wayo Allah! came the words from neighbors. Raymond so na you be the thief and a woman fainted. So na you dey thief our livestock. You wey we dey see as angel for we compound. So you be theif. Well should we be suprised shey it's Life as we know it.

Raymond would have been a life transformer with his perfection but unfortunately channeled it to a wrong vision. Excellent! This got my attention

Same here .... Am truly amazed at how it all turned out

Tnx

The Dream Seeker

Josef was the son of a diamond seeker, he worked with his father since he was 6 years old to help the family. His father spent long hours working in a diamond mine, where the conditions were very bad.

For 10 years, Josef worked alongside his father although he did not receive any payment from the mine for his work, Josef knew the only way his father could pay the bills and feed the family was for his help.

But his father knew that Josef was very intelligent and wanted a better way to make a living for his son. I wanted him to study and be a professional.

One day when Josef turned 16, his father told him that he would not work in the mine, Josef told his father that being a miner was the only thing in life he had ever known, to which his father replied "Josef there is a world out there that you must explore and I want something better for you, than a hard life and poverty. "

His father hugged him and gave him the money, which for years he had saved so Josef studied and knew a better life.

Anguish at nightfall

Night falls and today it seems that it did much faster.

The streets, after finishing the workday, receive me and I see in the twitching faces of the people that I cross, the anger that the uncertainty and the impotence that life as we know it, induces them.
The privilege of breathing and feeling is becoming insufficient for many, especially for my contemporaries who knew the opportunities to achieve, progress and be successful.

The youngest, innocents and perhaps condemned by the limitation imposed on them by the life they have known, full of disorders, abuses, vexations, masked by an indulgent and promiscuous approach to immediacy, do not seem to realize that they are losing the opportunity to build a legacy before this complex reality that presents us with life as we know it.

I hope to have the temperance and the wisdom to explain to my children still children, that human values, almost in the third decade of the 21st century, are still a sustainable way of positive transformation to consolidate better relations with our fellow human beings, all the species that they inhabit the planet and with mother earth itself.

Life as it is

The purpose of life is the search for happiness in a world full of diversity of thoughts and actions; where experiences are acquired every day through trial and error.

There are people with numerous material possessions, but with their empty souls, they are not happy with what little they have, and much less will be happy with how much they will have. In today's world we live in a daily discordance that goes beyond reality.

Money can solve situations but it does not buy happiness, it can indulge tastes and whims but never buy feelings, there are people with a lot of talent but with an unstable and unsuccessful personal life, dedicated but poorly paid workers, people who criticize the faults of others but they do not look in their own mirror, it is easy to criticize, it is difficult to accept, that is reality, the world is not complex, it is the people and their ideas that make it complex.

In the world we know there are many complaints about nonsense, when we really need to worry about more important things like finding our inner peace, working to be better people every day.

Life as we know it

it is said that in life what goes around comes around.
Once upon a time in the small village of sankiki, the lived a boy called John.
John was from a poor home and was extremely dull when it comes to school work. He was despised by his classmates and even most of the teachers in school called him a failure, but John had a friend called David who was always supportive telling him that he was not a failure.
John's performance at school was very bad that he had to drop out. But David was always trying his best to teach his friend the little he knew.
After many years of struggling John got admission into a university, graduated as one of the best. Today John is now a vice chancellor of a university.
Life as we know it was not really fair to his friend David. But because of what David did for John many years ago, John assisted David in all possible ways. THE END

Life as we know, what we want is not all we get, just like a boy who had waited for the expected moment after many days of training for the school 100 metres competition. Being the first to step out, getting to the finish line, nobody equalled him, he snatched the victory. Those brief happy moments was forever in his mind. “from now on i always want to be the first, the best "

In his years of study he sought to be an outstanding student, have high academic performance to maintain the scholarship he achieved, hours of sleeplessness. He got the prize, being constantly student of the year.

Then at work always wanting to standout, understood he needed his work as his only source of income, struggling to obtain the recognition of his superiors and fortunately he got his dream position in the company.

With passage of time, forming a home and having a goal to provide for his loved ones did not become a reality, he found out he had no seed in him.

The heartbreak knowing all his efforts was in vain, there was no one to fight for.

Aisha was scared, the planned wedding with Abdul wasnt the problem, she was scared of having kids and all the responsiblity that comes with it. It scares her, that someday, she's going to be wholly responsible for the lives of some folks who will poo and pee and cry and play all day and demand stuff they never worked for. She's scared she's gonna do that job for some twenty years coming. And later still worry about how they turn out, whether they are single or married. Responsible or foolish. Straight or not. Godly or wayward. Happy or sad. Moulding their lives when she's yet to figure out her own life and shit. She is to do all these for these guys for no reason whatsoever other than the fact that she slept with their dad in other to continue his lineage as every wife is expected to! She had to get married to Abdul and have those kids, it was what her family and the society expected of her as a woman.... Women dont really have a say in the world she belongs in....Thats life as we know it...

once upon a time, there was a boy he was from a very poor family,he had so much, determination to become successful, but all his attempts failed for this reason he got a bitter with a very bad temper this habit extended to even his close friends, when his father noticed how bitter his son had become he called him one morning,

"my son every time you loose patience you say dirty words to people, this words leave scars where ever you say them because words are like broken egg once it is broken you can not take it back."

"but I usually say sorry to them" he replied

You can put a knife in a man and remove it, but no matter how many times you tell him you are sorry, the scar will remain forever. Verbal offense is as harmful as a physical offense.

"life as we know it is never fair just take life as it is so you don't end up loosing it along side those who are precious to you", always remember, no matter how we try to plan our life, life always has its own plan for us.

Life as we know it

We all have a past and a present but have no idea of the future. We feel ourselves shriveling along with our world, getting smaller and harder. Life is full with its up and down and never ending twist of tales. In life, we have the rich who suffers even with their enormous wealth , while we have the poor who are enjoy every moment of their life like its the last. Life can throw up lots of soap-opera with its maniac plots. Life is a gamble itself as you can never win all the time, you are bound to lose at one point. Life is like Ying and Yang, or Jekyll and Hyde or we could say two sides of a coin. Life has its good and bad side and we've got to have a bite of both. Enjoy life, Live Love Hope Pray Play Cry Smile Laugh Dance Rejoice Merry, as we know we all are going to leave this life one day. As Christmas approaches, Let's endeavor to give thanks for another year gone. Not also forgetting the less privileged who you can put a smile on their face.

Life is beautiful, life is a mystery, no one knows what the future holds.
I still recollect how Bodé's mother, a widow struggled and toiled to raise Bodé. She virtually paid through her nose to see him through secondary school as the sweet-talking uncles deserted them.

Bode was a good boy, he understood his mother's plight and studied harder. He was respectful, hardworking and never kept bad friends. As expected, Bode graduated as the best student in his class with high hopes and dreams of studying medicine in the university in order to make his poor mother proud but life had other plans for them as four years after secondary school, Bode attempted his fourth JAMB examination, same old story. Even Akin his friend, who could barely make four correct sentences back then in school was already in his finals.

Maybe he should have sorted a few lecturers like some of his classmates had done.
But then, life as we know it has never been fair. That is why the rich keep getting richer and the poor, poorer. Good things happen to bad people and bad things; good people, so the cycle revolves. We should just let life happen!

LIFE AS WE KNOW IT

By @vic-essien

On a cold Sunday morning I sat on my couch gazing at the refrigerator, with a single thought echoing in my mind.

What if this device wasn't invented?

What would befall humanity if the inventor had misplaced his priority and missed his purpose?

My answer was simple and immediate. We would have missed an advancement, humanity would still be finding it difficult to preserve things particularly consumables.

That cold Sunday had been a day for me to know life as I know it. Life should be for the advancement of humanity and never be the opposite.

Life never rewards the takers, it only rewards the givers. In my opinion that should be life as we know it.

Life differs from every human. It is existence and non-existence, it can never be defined in a fair sentence, it took GOD six beautiful days before the existence of life was conjured. if I'll explain what life is like in my little understanding, it's like "LIVING IN A FANTASY ERA". An aeon of existence with countless of human bodies conjuring. it’s the definition of each and every experiences and fantasy based on every human struggle, and they all define it the way it tackles them. life is majorly about struggles; you have to strive to get that which you want. life is the conjunction of so many experiences. Cruelty, Insanity, Unfairness, Struggles, connect together to make life be. To experience eternal euphorically without sadness, backwardness, failure is all a fantasy, nobody is ever truly happy in life, to be happy your desires have to be fulfilled, but you cannot always get that which you want when you like, no matter what status you possess. Life is a complication, its complicated in the sense that you cannot understand it at all, the way it evolves is known to nobody except one, the omniscience, marvellous and majestic one who created it.

The realities of life are deep to comprehend. The more we know , the less we understand. What a mystery.

Five blind men described an elephant based on the part of the elephant they touched.

The first described the elephant as a thick snake, the second as a fan, the third as a tree trunk, the fourth as a wall and the last, as a rope.

They may not have described the elephant in totality however, their descriptions are valid.

This is also applicable to the realities life. Our conception of life is based on our experiences. No two persons can give the same explanation to life.

To some, life is beautiful with nice experiences while to others, life is difficult with hurtful experiences.

This explains why some hunger for what to eat while others lavish away in plenty. The rich gets richer while the poor gets poorer.

This is the reality of life, this is the way we know life. Life itself is not fair. Nature has it that not everyone can be on the same level.

The earlier we accept and take life the way it is, the better for us.

Life as we know it!!
Do we even know what is life is?Do we know?Do we really see life the way it is or we see it as we wish to.The decisions we make ,the actions we take, the words we utter ,all these make a conglomerate of what we know as life today.
Alot of us have lost sight of what life really is and what it takes to truly live a life, life is a combination of everything we are about, and the different experience we are to have ,i guess that is why noone is truly the same ,even though most of us have similar experiences ,there are always in different formats with different people but i would say that life as we know it is a result of the decisions we make and these actions include the places we go ,the people we meet, the words we say,how our emotions control our actions and words.
There are different laws that govern creation like homogenous species, sowing and reaping, gravitational law,law of motion etc .
Therefore,a combination of these laws and our actions too is life as we know it,

LIFE CHRONICLES

It is Samson’s induction ceremony. Today, he becomes a Doctor of Osteopathic medicine. His joy overflows as he sees people from all walks of life celebrating with him and his colleagues. What joy it would have been if his mother is alive and around to be a witness to his success story.

The induction lecture is on but Samson is lost in thought. He remembers the day he returned from school so sad, blaming his father for his low self-esteem. My classmates visited Santa Claus, but I could not, because I could not pay. Last week, they went on an excursion, I could not go. Their parents give them money for lunch, but all I have is boiled yam or cassava that mama gives me. His father, a peasant farmer could not provide him with luxurious things. He comforted his son and told him a story on contentment. This is where life has placed us, but someday, life will smile at you because knowledge will help you to live life a much better way. He said ”We live life as we know it.” He looks at his father once more, holding the tear…

Life as we know it, we do not really know it at the beginning. It's mysterious, when you least think it makes you bad moves. It shows you love and you think it is the color of roses. You saw that person as you would like them to be, but when you realize it, it is not what you think and suffer. Maybe there are things we do not know about her, but yes. When we are young we believe that we know everything about it, we are immature and we make many mistakes, but of course it is part of learning. We are submissive under its spell, we fall in love with life, from the colors and when those nine grays arrive it is when we really realize that it is made, because we are filled with our essence. We must understand that when we find happiness, we really know what life is. Life has many ups and downs, it is surprising but at the same time decisive. It shows us the beauty of small things, it gives us the truth. When we think that everything is lost, it comes to light and finds us with ourselves. Life evolves according to what we know about it and makes us see the two sides of the coin.

Life As We Know It

Fifteen years of war and counting, I, just like every other Mpape resident, have forgotten what it means to have a quiet day. Explosions every now and then, women and children scurrying for safety during sudden attacks. One minute you’re walking the streets in search for food and the next minute, you’re hiding and praying not to be caught up in crossfire, this is how we live now.
I was in search for some food as me and siblings were dying of hunger, when another attack started.
I found myself huddled with a male stranger in the nearest hiding place. Out of fear, we held each other’s hands tightly.
The explosions grew louder and closer. How long would it be before it got to us?
I turned around and asked him to have sex with me. “But what about hell? Aren’t you scared?” he asked. “This is how we live, this is how we know life, we’re never truly sure what tomorrow holds. But I’m sure I don’t want to die a virgin” I replied. So I tugged at his zippers and his trembling hands moved round my body. The rest was just like I had read in novels

As I lie on my hospital bed, thoughts of all the activities last few days run through my mind. Could it just be yesterday my boss had given me the promotion I'd been waiting on for five years?
He had thrown a little party and there was even cake, to celebrate the promotion.
Assistant manager!
Finally! But then that was where the joy had ended. Just as I was about to cut my piece of the celebratory cake, my phone beeped.
It was a text from mum.
Come home now... It had said
I took my leave immediately, picked my car keys and hurried to the car park.
Oh I heard the gunshot alright but the pain came later on...
A stray bullet they had said but now I have lost use of my legs...
Everyone was saying I'm lucky to be alive, but of what use is a crippled engineer to my company?
As I try to avoid the suicidal thoughts trying to break in, my eyes stumble on a sticker on my bedside table... It was the title of my favorite novel in primary school... It read...
Life as we know it....

I hope this isn't too late😑

She looked at them; father, mother and child; laughing and eating together. She could see the sparkle of love in their eyes. Something inside her burned with longing; there was a void deep in her heart that needed to be filled. Amina was orphaned at the age of six. With no relative or family friends, she was forced to live on the streets; hawking cold sachet water to feed herself. But she could barely afford her meals. Here she was standing in front of a fast food’s see- through glass window, observing a family feasting together. She craved for the love of a family. But life as she knew it was cruel. She could remember vividly how she was raped by Uncle Tolu, who promised to give her a family of her own. She had trusted him but he hurt her so much; she couldn’t walk properly for days because the pain was excruciating. She wanted a family, but wasn’t willing to go through another series of pains. She wished her life was different, but she remembered what she read somewhere, “life as we know it doesn’t give us what we wish for”

LIFE AS I KNOW IT!!!

Life is one, it is a beautiful gift from God, that is how i see it, that is how i know it.

I have been privileged in my life because i have everything i need to be happy, this is the love of my family, the success of my work and the faith in God that guides me.

But not everyone has the same life, each one from what they have to live qualifiest it. There are those who for example live in poverty but say they are happy, others go though serious diseases, others live in wealth and are not happy.

There are so many scenarios that it is difficult to understand because for each person life although it is a gift and only one, lives and feels it in its own way.

In short words, i paint my life with beautiful and bright colors, i enjoy it, i share it with pride, with happyness and i care for it as the greatest treasure i have because i depend on it to watch over my children and provide them with the best. I have the mission to make them see their lifes as i see mine or better.

Life as we know it is unfair. It has limited us, It has stopped us at the edge of reaching our goals, It has knocked us down when we needed to be up most, it has taken from us the people we love most and replaced them with the people we hate most.

Life as we know it has made the kind poor and the wicked rich.

Life as we know it has dashed our hopes, rejoiced at our tears , risen our fears while it relegates our faith with seemingly insurmountable problems.

Life as we know it is like an irony that preaches good but upvotes wickedness.

Life as we know it has made some dead at infancy without the culpability of sin while it has left behind the blood soaked sinners.

But ONE THING is sure, life as God knows it, is what you think and make of it because as a man thinketh in his heart , so he is and as a man believeth in his heart, so he is.

BE positive, always!

Life is not always fair. Imagine you give love and get hate in return. You're the good guy, but misfortune always hits you first and very hard!
Life is so unfair that as a student its only when you buy your way through that you get good grades, what if your mum sold all her belongings just to pay your school fees and her only source of income is selling pepper! where will this money come from!! You lend a friend money and end up loosing that friendship because of this same money.

How about when you prepare so hard for Post Utme and then you have to wait at home for 2 years because of tribalization. When you're asked to repeat a whole class and pay double the amount of school fees just because you couldn't pay this same fees before the given deadline, where is the money going to come from! How do you start settling afresh with your junior colleagues!
How about when ponzi pays everybody, especially the ones that have the money, you decide to join and thats when the whole scheme crashes with your last dime.
In all , live and let live.

hello very good story, beautiful words about life, I'm also participating, greetings and good luck.

Life as we know it,is a citadel of learning.
A place where we meet various kinds of people, who either is a blessing or a lesson.

Where people are respected according to class.
Where the majority has to be ruled by the minority because of knowledge or wisdom.
Where the poor has to be exploited by the rich.
Where the dependent owe their existence to the independent.
Where history is repeated daily.
Where many are slaves to their thoughts.

Reminds me of a friend who killed her best friend because of a man,who intended marrying her,she wasn't happy that she will leave her single, she was the first to back stab her,was it really worth it?
That's life for you;your best of friends turns to your worst enemy.

Where happiness is the greatest good of man

Life is full of surprises, our plan is our disappointments.

Life is a citadel of learning, the more you learn the further you grow.

In order to make the most of life one needs to embrace education and rational thinking which enlightens and challenges the mind to think critically.

Don't just live life but be known to have lived life

I HOPE WE FOR ONCE OVERLOOK THE CHALLENGES THAT LIFE BRINGS AND TURN THE ILLS TO OUR FAVOUR

He could have brought out the best in himself and make the most of his college days but, he never did. His excuse was that life don't reward hardworks no more. He'd say the cliche closest to the lips of the common nigerian, "it's all about connection".
Now he's out of college, had his regret, but still hasn't learnt his lessons. He knows life doesn't bring fortune on a platter of gold. He knows exactly what businesses to do and how to make a difference but he wouldn't. Hypothetically, he sat back expecting employment letters he knows will never come. He kept on conforming to life as we know it. He could have made a difference yet, he ended his life a failure after several years of endless frustration all because he wouldn't change the status quo. He failed not because he wasn't talented or educated, but because he knows life as we all know it.

I wish the hands of time could be stopped and then reversed.
Life as we know it is given just once
Oh! Aside from the new creation, who is birthed again through Christ, but still it is a birth done once.
They say YOLO!
You know what it means?
Utilize the space and time that is imbued in you.
Refuse! To be on the losing side or distracting end because life as we know it is a race against self, and every man wishes to be the champion at the end.
Embrace the sacrifices, pain, sufferings, challenges and problems that slap you in the face or knock you down.
Stand up, dust off and then laugh at the laughter and mockery of them scornful people. Bring back that picture, vision, goal, target and dream upfront and stay in the race running not strolling.
Success is not gotten in the comfort of your walking, wealth doesn’t plead with you to be a part of it. Value is rested in the highest of place. There is only way to flow in their current. Smile and embrace every challenge and problem that crosses your path. Because it’s your stepping stone to greatness.

LIFE AS WE KNOW IT?

Growing up, mike was certain he had heard the " if you believe you can achieve" speech so much its all he remembers now.

With so much enthusiasm, mike started his first business at the age of thirteen as a paper delivery boy , he would buy papers and deliver them to offices, mike was doing great and earning some money , he was happy to see that the words of his parents were true so he kept putting in more work.

At fifteen Mike was able to save his first $1000, to celebrate this he decided to deliver free papers to his customers, he got on his bicycle and just as he got into the road, he was ran over by a careless truck driver.

Mike is 34 now, sitting on his wheel chair watching the road. No business, no dreams, just hope that he will one day remember who he is. He lost the use of both his legs and suffers retrograde amnesia. Even now he still remembers that if he believes he can achieve, is it safe to say that he hasn't lost hope? I don't know.

Life as we know it? I guess we know so little!

Very little my brother

GRACE TO GRASS

"Life isn't fair neither is it a bed of roses" remember laughing with Femi regarding this advice made by his mum to him.The son of a rich oil tycoon,non-chalant Femi who wouldn't take his studies serious always had all he wanted on a platter of gold.Born with a silver spoon,Femi never had a taste of the other side of life until the sudden death of his father.A death his uncles took advantage of to claim everything and left him with nothing.Like what most people would say"from grace to grass"was his story, falling from the son of a rich oil tycoon to a school drop out with nothing to fall back on.with tears running down my cheek,I regret not being a good friend to femi by advicing him but anyway this is life and it can never be predicted,we only have to take it as we see it.

It was on Tuesday, Samuel went out to the sea as always. His skills in fishing was excellent. Like every other day, he sailed to the depth of the sea where big fishes swim. Samuel was melancholic at the thought of sailing that evening, but he shaved off that feeling because it was his nature anyway. His life was full of fear, yet, he was a big risk-taker. As he sailed deeper into the sea, he encountered the kind of storm that threw him from side to side. The sea raged angrily and left Samuel with the choice of his last words. Narrowly, Samuel survived the storm and caught big fishes which he sold for high prices. Before now, Samuel's only son had been diagnosed of blood cancer. The doctors had prescribed complete flush-out of his blood with fresh blood transfusion which needed #250,000. Samuel was thankful to himself for the courage to sail when everyone had retired. After his son was discharged, Samuel told him his experience. "Son, life as we know it is like a sea full of rage. Risk takers are often more successful" he advised Kelvin to take calculated risks.

Life As We Know It

Mukhtar said he had no job for me today which is why I am home early. Only God knows how we shall eat today. Mama has been dead for three years now and father was never there even when she was alive. I had to drop out of school to care for my baby sister Tinuke. Ever since, it has been a struggle to get food to eat each day.
I hear noises on entering the compound and hearing Tinuke cry, I rush down there where I find the neighbors scolding her with gusto. Listening to the gist, I realise it is the same old story. She found Tinuke in front of their apartment, watching her children eat.
Leading her way, I see the tears flow from her eyes. "Why can't we eat like them? " she cries out. She is hungry and so am I. Hopefully, when we sit by the road, someone will take pity on us. That's our only hope for today. Taking her in my arms, I wipe the tears away. This is our life as we know it now,but it will get better.

(call begins)...

"The journey to success in life as we know it, has more thorns than roses"

This kept ringing in my ears while I scrambled to fix in 20 sachet water in as many bags as I could. I needed to pack at least 500 bags every day to get up to N2000. I know, I hate doing this, but I needed to work even more to get the funds for my admission processes. Neither mom nor dad could help, but it’s understood fully, because financially they were handicapped.

For 11 months, I squatted frequently; arranging sachet waters into bags and saving every bit I made but couldn’t get just enough to prove that I accepted school admission. With no hope or anyone to help, I spent today crying without shame, I needed to express myself.

“Why are you crying?”

A voice behind said. Like I always wanted to, I told my story.
Oh what a woman she was. A customer, who never noticed me, listened to the end, gave me a shoulder to cry on, and a personality to lean on. She gave me a contact card and a few thousands to hold onto, a reason to be hopeful.

Sometimes I wonder why care so much about the way we look, the clothes we wear and how much they cost or why good things happen to bad people and bad to good people. They say "hardwork is key to success", but the Janitor works more time than the CEO but earns way lesser. Another said "Seek first the kingdom and other things be added unto you", most gospel preachers still don't own their personal cars and I say to them that is "LIFE AS WE KNOW IT".
Cyndy the virgin girl, whose father died of cancer finally finished from university with First Class Honours and heads to the city to do menial job before she heads to law school. Cyndy's drunk uncle rapes her and got her pregnant. Cyndy wants to fulfil promises she made to her to provide a better life for them and opts for an abortion and dies during the process. They called Cyndy a victim of circumstance, I tell them that is "LIFE AS WE KNOW IT".

Here's my submission . . It's really short, but I hope you feel it. https://steemit.com/motivation/@awolesigideon/life-as-we-know-it

Hello @stach , i hope you're doing well , here is my entry :

Life as we know it

once i was walking next to the coast and trying to find a suitable place to make my usual habit( meditation). It was the first time i meditate in front of sea and it's enermous views, i started meditating while the waves were sending the pure thoughts inside the pure air that makes u get in another globe which no one can bother you , talk to you and even see , hear what are going through this wonderful trip . Igot deeper and deeper in my imagination till i found myself asking questions about who am i?and what i am doing here and the major one was how this life looks like ?
At the first instant, i was thinking about life as simple as anyone of the normal people think about it , this time i thought as the waves were trying to wake me up from my unawareness of life's dangers and palys i was drowning in them . For instant, everything changed and i knew the real version of me and what's my job here in this hellish life . For the first time i knew the life as the other's knew it before me thanks to the coast sea waves ...

Thank you for this opportunity. Here my entry:

We should change the car. I told him a thousand times. Sure, the bank cameras had given us away. We needed to run away in a hurry. Nick had always been the best driver to count on, but he always abused alcohol, there was no way to get rid of it. Everything would have been better if only he had not stopped to urinate. We would have crossed earlier and we were already in Mexico. We would be officially rich, no one would chase us there. Now we must escape at all costs. At least, I brought enough ammo. It will have to be used, there is no other solution. Shooting, blood and death, this is life as we know it, for us there has been no other, nor there will be, from what I see: they have surrounded us!

If you like it, please, vote and resteem.

Where do we submit the story?

“I thought you said you loved me? Why are you doing this” Emem said crying.
“Sorry, but I don’t love you anymore, you have to remove that thing from your womb. I don’t even know if it’s mine” He replied
“Mark you’re the only one I’ve slept with, nobody but you. Why are you saying this, Mark, why?” she said in-between sobs.
“Just go to the pharmacy and ask the amount for the drugs, I’d send it to you”. With that he hung up
She lay on her bed soaking her pillow with tears.” Mark used to be loving, caring and a sweet boy. What happened? What did I do wrong? Was it because she was pregnant? But he told me he’d never leave me”. She thought to herself as she cried. Her mother was right when she said, the only thing a boy wants from her at this stage is to sleep with her and walk away. But Mark was nice and gentle, he didn’t seem like he could hurt a fly. At that moment, her mother’s words resonated in her head, “life as we know it preys on young disobedient girls”. Her mother was right.

waoo thanks for the contest i hope to win .. let me cook my story

As she walked along the path in order to avoid the busy Aba Road and its loud environment, her thoughts were cast back to the moment when she and her classmates -Agnes, Monica and Buchi ,were having drinks in Galaxy Bar. That glorious night before today when she had completed all 'assignments ' given by the Dean of her faculty, feeling like the super lioness as called by her course mates.
Edith was just a pretty young girl who though from a modest and humble family was certainly the black sheep in the family. She loved the flashy aspect of life and instead chose to live the 'fast ' life. She was 'doing well' as her colleagues would always compliment her, but the last few hours of life have certainly shown her that the popular saying that all which glitters is certainly not gold.
Walking back from what was supposed to be her graduation ceremony and the news that the Dean of her faculty was on suspension really broke her heart. Did karma really play a fast one on her?, was she just the unlucky one?, or the perfect analogy of the uncertainty of LIFE AS WE KNOW IT?

“Life as we know it isn’t a bed of roses”. These were the very words of Mr Alex as he gathered his grandchildren around his old worn out cushion.

He continued, “let me tell you a short story about my childhood friend Maxwell”, as he made for his cup of tea.

As a child, Maxwell lost his dad and had to live life through thorns. he stopped going to school because his mum hadn’t the capacity to send him and his younger brother, Tom, to school so he had to survive on his own.

He coughed and wiped his eyes with a piece of white handkerchief.

Maxwell had to survive by selling empty plastic bottles until a knight in a shining armour saw him one day on the street, picked him up and promised to sponsor his schooling. Maxwell was a good boy and was very obedient to his new family until he graduated with an excellent result from the tertiary institution and got a job in an oil firm.

He looked at his grandchildren with a smile on his face and said, “Life really is not a bed of roses, so be grateful for what you have now”.

Life is sweet and a place of abundant opportunity. Most people come to life without achieving their God given talent here on earth. It is not the matter of what drive you but rather the matter of what you are driving. My question is that what is your vision?

All human on earth is created to solve one or two problem here on earth. Have you discover your purpose here on earth, what are your dreams? And to what extend have you been able to put smile on others face. Never let your background but your back to the ground. There are many success story of people who have rise to stardom from the ground to the top.

Never be scared to take responsibility, when you fail,it is not a failure, but what makes it a failure is when you are scared to take another step. Remember there is light at the end of the tunnel

Ngozi stood by the window staring into space. Why had life treated her this way? Why was it so unfair? What wrong had she done? Every man she had ever loved ended up jilting her. Life as she knew it was a journey of heartbreaks. First, it was Jide, he was funny, caring, loving and romantic. He worshipped her like a goddess, if anybody had told her Jide would hurt her, she would never have believed. Five years down the line, she had dated a total of eight men. None of those relationships worked out. Her heart had been broken beyond repair. She wasn't sure she could ever love again. She never liked admitting to this, but the happenings in her life had left her no choice; "all men are the same". To her they were all bloody liars and cheats, yet something told her she was concluding too soon.
She picked up her phone, thumbed through for some seconds and the text appeared. She read it with tears in her eyes, for the umpteenth time; "Life as we know it doesn't give us what we wish for. I'm sorry, i'd have to break up with you".

“Life as we know it my dear, is about events, responses and outcomes. You cannot change the events but you can definitely change the outcomes by your responses”. Her father’s voice echoed in her head as she drove to work that morning. Nothing had prepared her for the events of that morning. She never saw it coming. Tunde, whom she loved and trusted with her life, just turned out to be worse than the devil. How could he impregnate her kid sister; she was just seventeen. What was she to do? The only justifiable response to this would be to file for a divorce. But it didn’t just feel right. Divorcing him would not be favorable to their son; he needs both parents in his life. There was no way she would allow her sister give birth to that child. But aborting the pregnancy would be murder; she wasn’t going to stain her hands with the blood of an innocent child. And she definitely wasn’t going to put her sister’s life in danger. She was so confused. She would think of a proper response to this situation before the end of the day.

“If I can’t have him nobody can” Tolu shouted.
“Ah! Tolu, why are you talking like this? I hope you’re not planning to do anything stupid” Her sister replied.
“I’m going to kill him.” Tolu said. “JESUS! Please don’t let another person hear you o, I don’t want trouble.” Her sister pleaded.
“I was on my own o, minding my own business; he just came from nowhere and made me fall in love with him. After promising me heaven and earth, he thinks he can leave me for another woman. Can you believe I did two abortions for him, not one, two. After using me, he thinks he can dump me. He’ll have to die”
“Tolu, I know you’re hurt. You don’t deserve the treatment he’s giving you, you deserve better. However, killing him wouldn’t make you happy, it’ll only make you feel worse. No matter what he did; good or bad, he doesn’t deserve death. I know you want him to be yours alone, and you can do anything to have him, but life as we know it, doesn’t always give us what we want. Please let him go”
With that, Tolu broke down in tears.

Indefinitely giving this a shot again.
