I think the gun makes the society more violent. I remember lots of time in my life when I was tempered and realised my mistake later. The working of gun cannot be undone by mere realization.

It depends on the hands in charged..
If handled by a robber, it's not safe..
If handled by forces, it's safer for the society ...

That might be right, the problem as I see it is that there's still "need" to use those guns because people can't behave normally..

I'd say both.
It actually makes a society safe when it's in the hands of a cop or a certified holder but then, it becomes violent when it's in the hand of a robber or kidnapper.

GUNS DONT KILL, PEOPLE DO.

Thanks to the current state of human consciousness we need guns. As long as violence is part of our nature we will have a need to defend ourselves.

The conundrum, we would need to become a docile species to make guns obsolete. We would have to lose our flight or fight instinct. In doing so I believe we would lose our drive. Our competing spirit would fade our desire to be the best and to innovate. I dont know if thats a good trade off.

Guns are for sale not to be kill,it's work? should be ,no more people dying by gun......guns only sale for shoot mosquito and croach only

No guns do not make the society safer

Living in Australia we have very strict gun rules after a mass shooting happened these strict gun rules have been very effective at reducing gun related deaths.

Americas lacks gun laws allow for more gun related crimes its simple maths 88 guns in the us to every 100 people but more than that the problem is cultural.

I think that guns could make society safer, but they would have to be regulated and restricted to only be given to people who would use them only when necessary.

The process should be strict involving multiple stages like ID checks, intelligence and mental health tests, interviews and then training how to handle a firearm and when to use it. The pass requirement for each stage should be as high as possible and successful applicants should then have to re-take the tests each year.

Growing up in a pretty rough area of England I have been a victim of crimes and known many relatives and friends who've been victims too and almost all of them would likely have been prevented if the attackers thought there was a chance we could have had a gun to defend ourselves.

Guns are preferred where immediate stabilization is required but it has a very short time effect. Leadership and Education gives a long term peace but also takes a lot of time when immediate response is required

This is based on situation because if you don't have gun in border hear we get security problems.

If robber have gun it is more dangerous

It depends entirely on the society in question, take chiraq for instance in a society like that guns = violence no questions asked
But in some societies with true democracy guns are only viewed as a force for self-defense and law enforcement because here the people on average support the existing laws.

What a wonderful post...

I'll agree with many commenters here that guns is not the reason for violence. Guns give the means, but violence comes from people themselves.

by guns I mean how is is in some countries to get one, either legally or in the black market. Thanks for joining!

In respect to gun ownership laws my views has changed over the years. I was proponent of it for a while, but at this point in my life I believe it hurts more people than protect. People are very bad in controlling emotions, so concealed carry right has too much possibility of misfire (yes, pun intended).

I wish we could live in a world without guns :) that would mean we have grown as a society. Congratulations to the winners of question9! @logicalidiot @itscryptoant and @cryptoscout

Guns themselves don't make society safer or more dangerous, it is the people who own them and make laws about them that make a society with easy access to guns dangerous. At the end of the day humans are the dangerous ones!

It is not the guns that causes violence, but the people.

It can have ether effect or contribute very little. In some societies like Finland where it is estimated that 70% of the population owns a gun, they have one of the lowest crime rates in the world. Some Fins believe that because everyone is armed (although the guns are in homes), that crime is lower.

In the US however where about 40% of the households have guns, gun violence is out of control.

So it seems like the society determines greatly whether there will be lots of gun violence even when there are lots of guns in the society.

Another point is that Finland has a very homogeneous society, the country is relatively affluent and its people embrace social principals.

The US is a melting pot with many different cultures trying to co-exist, there are lots of high poverty areas and capitalism i.e. "everybody needs to get paid" prevails. You put guns into the society that is America and you get lots of gun violence. Did the guns cause that? I would have to say no but they certainly contribute to the violence meaning if there were not so many guns less gun violence would occur. this happened in Australia when they changed their gun laws. Gun violence was out of control and now it has dropped by more than 80%.

Sorry for hte long winded answer but in my opinion it is complicated. Let me summarize. Guns in some cases can be a deterrent to crime and in others they can cause more crime depending on the society. Thanks.
