Religion in this generation is bad!!!
Most of the mayhem happening this days is as a result of politically influenced beliefs that has been preached by religion institutions.
Way back Religion was use to protect the people in the society from issues caused by politics so over time the people began to place their unreserved trust in religions and religion leaders.
Upon seeing this, the religion leaders were now enticed to speak in favour of bad politicians and their fake deceitful agendas.
Now we dont even know who to trust anymore!!!

Personally it's bad. Considering my country, Nigeria where we have churches and mosques than schools you would think it's peaceful as more than 90% of the population is either christian or Muslim. But this is far from the truth, the insurgency faced in the north due to activities of Boko Haram can be traced back to religion. Believe me religion is the problem we have in Africa. It has eaten deep to the extent that any slight problem or setback either domestic or any other faced by a regular African is termed 'spiritual' therefore feeling the need to consult with religion clerics who in turn take advantage of their ignorance to enrich their own pocket. It has also made people lazy to find realistic solution to problems, they instead rely on 'prayers'. Take religion away from Africa and see it blossom

hi @thepassenger In my perspective, religion is very influential both for human beings such as my religion which teaches the good for all creatures on earth, in line with the opinion of Rahmatan lil 'alamin Religion means Islam is a religion that brings grace and welfare for all the entire universe, including animals, plants and jin , let alone fellow human beings. In accordance with the word of Allah in Surah al-Anbiya verse 107 which reads, "And We sent not you, but to be a mercy to the worlds." Islam forbids man to be arbitrary against the creatures of Allah, just look at the words of the Prophet as contained in Hadith narrated al-Imam al-Hakim, "Who arbitrarily kills birds, or other animals smaller than that, then Allah will ask accountability to him ". The bird has the right to be slaughtered and eaten, not killed and thrown. Is it so beautiful Islam is not it? With animals alone should not be arbitrary, especially with humans. Imagine if people understand and practice the teachings of Islam, it will be really beautiful and peaceful this world.

Good and bad. It was very bad in the dark ages,possibly causing man kind millions of deaths due to ignorance of medicine and setting mankind back due to technological advances shunned to do myths. Now it is a double edged sword. It can give many comfort and direction in trying times. But is still causing people to doubt science in the face of global warming. And the cause of radical hatred of fellow man.
I feel it is good on and individual and communal level, but we have yet to learn to truly love our fellow man and listen to facts for it to help society.

I was baptized as a Roman Catholic. I became an atheist because of religion. I found it so bad for the society for people is using it as an excuse for doing bad things because they will just be "forgiven" if they confess to a priest.

I think religion can be a good and bad thing. I'm personally not religious and don't believe in it; I imagine this will make my argument a little biased.
I do however respect peoples views. If being religious helps them, to be a better person then good for them. I think especially in the third world it gives them a little hope to keep going.
I do feel as a species we would be further, if religion hadn't held us back in medicines especially. It has also caused so many wars and conflicts, that I do sometimes wonder.
I think it was originally meant to be a good thing but has become twisted by some.

My answer is that religion is good for society.
For me, religion is the main and absolute thing. because religion is the purpose of human life. A man who does not believe in a religion is a person who has no purpose, as he does not know where and to whom he will complain which in the end he will die without knowing to heaven or hell he.

That's a "question for the ages," really.
In answering, I think it's important to clearly distinguish between "religion" and "faith."
To me "religion" is an entirely Human construct; a set of rules and parameters created by PEOPLE, behind which those people practice their faith... almost like "nations." On the other hand "faith" is our individual relationships with a higher power or "the Universe" or whatever we think brings some semblance of meaning and order to our existence.
From those definitions, I would say that religion is mostly BAD for society because of a couple of things: One, by being part of a religion, people tend to abdicate personal responsibility and accountability for doing bad things to group-think (not GOD, group-think!) and two, by declaring yourself part of "a religion" there's often attendant doctrine that makes everyone else in the world somehow wrong as a result of which we end up with religious wars... or wars that — ultimately — can be tracked back to being "about religion." As in "If you don't think like us, we kill you!"
The positive aspects of religion is that it can serve as a control mechanism to keep "unruly mob thinking" in check.
Now, "having faith" is an awesome thing... but it exists independently of religion. Think about it: People of ALL religions have faith even while beating the snot out of each other in the name of their religions!

I believe it really depends on the person and his/her intentions, because there are a lot of people who use religion as an excuse for justying terrible acts, but there are also a lot of people who do some amazing things in the name of their religion. Faith is something that can really move someone either in a good or bad direction, but I think it can really be a source of strength to others, and that's really helpful in nowadays society when we often find ourselves feeling discouraged.
To me religion should be something that unites people and doesn't divide them.

They say "Religion is the belief in an eternally-alive, that a mind and a divine will that rules the universe and is a moral bond with humanity.:" ... but in fact religion is the human reaction to be alive and in time to die, or is an unconscionable amount which prevents us from freely exercise our skills.
I say that true religion is the life we lead, we live, not the Bible we declare. Religion is the only power before which you can leave without debasing yourself.
