Contest: Guess the species #2! $5 SBD to the winner!

in contest •  7 years ago

I decided to run another contest in the “Guess the species” contest type, despite pretty few people entering the last time. In hindsight it might seem like the species was a bit tricky for those who don’t live in Fennoscandia, so this time around I will post a species that is found all over the Northern Hemisphere; both in Europe, Asia and North-America! It is also found in some places in the Southern Hemisphere, but it is not naturally occurring.

This time around the picture is of a mushroom, and judging from what I’ve seen in the #photography section of Steemit, might be something a lot of people are knowledgeable about. If you’ve been collecting mushrooms, then I’m sure you seen, picked or even eaten this, since it’s considered a very beginner-friendly mushroom!

Contest rules

  • Try to correctly identify the species in the picture(s) below.
  • Post the scientific (binomial) name. If you only know the local name, search for it in Google and you will find the scientific name easily.
  • Only one guess per contestant. If you change your mind then edit your post, don't make a new one.
  • Upvote the post before you enter. It does not matter if you use a low vote weight.

I will run the contest for 72 hours, and then I will pick a random person who guessed the correct species. The winner will receive 5SBD sent to their Steemit account. The money is provided by @valth personally, so the winner will get them even if this post make less than this amount, so don't worry about not getting paid :)

Guess the species #2

If you know some mushrooms, then this might be pretty easy for you. If you it will probably be pretty difficult. However, you do get a hint! I have written about this mushroom in the past, so if you’ve been reading my posts for a long time, then you have surely seen some information about it! Good luck!

This is not my guess, @valth because I already read your post about this one here, https://steemit.com/nature/@valth/distinguishing-between-the-boletus-edulis-and-the-tylopilus-felleus-mushrooms.

So the mushroom above is no other than the Boletus edulis.

We have that in the Philippines. :)

It's called Porcini or Penny Bun Bolete - or Boletus edulis if you wanna get all latin lol 🍄

Boletus edulis, species of the genus Boletus.

Hi @Valth
Here you got yourself a bit worm-eaten spices of Boletus edulis, or Steinsopp, as we call it here in Norway.
One of my top 3 favoritt mushrooms for side order in a good dinner.
