What is the Deadpost Intitiative?
The Deadpost Initiative is an attempt to give love to some posts that were overlooked during their short 7 day life span, a chance to bring your old posts back to life and maybe make some friends in the process. The goal is not only to share some love with SBD but also by engagement to generate discussion.
Last week
This week was a week of photography. We had two winners in the category, a category we don't get very much of, so it was a nice change. We also had a nice life experience and time travel!
Let's make this the week that The Deadpost Initiative goes Trending! Resteem! Tell your friends! Tell your whales! I want to give away much more Steem than this!!!
Let's get to it.
Last Week's Winners
@eaglespirit - $ 2.5 STEEM prize
@eaglespirit shows her home in Colorodo and I swear that last picture came straight out of a dream. America sure has some nice nature that I missed out on in the city.
Colorado Lake and Spout
@ohicklin - $ 2.5 STEEM prize
@ohicklin shows off Yosemite, a park that everyone knows. I remember going there when I was a kid but it was so long ago it's all blurry memories. This post takes me back :-D
YOSEMITE - One of the Greatest Nature Shows on Earth
@sighmanjestah - $ 2.5 STEEM prize
@sighmanjestah shares a very romantic story that he was witness to or perhaps even curated unknowingly. This was pretty fun, sweet even.
"Hey, That Reminds Me Of A Story" #1 Inaugural "Increasing Friends"
@steemmeupscotty - $ 2.5 STEEM prize
@steemmeupscotty, with his wonderful username, shows us that time travel does exist, and he managed to figure out one particular person who has gone travelling in time. Check it out!
Time travelling selfie dude at early Beatles concert!
Week 14
Share your best Deadpost in the comments!
The best posts will be rewarded with half of the payout from this post (or a minimum of $10 SBD or STEEM, split between winners) and will be featured in a future post.
Rules
•Please only submit 1 post.
•Posts must have a payout of less than $5.
•Posts must be at least one month old.
•I recommend you don't enter the same post twice in the same month if you didn't win the first time.
•Vote for 1-3 post by others. Please share WHY you liked their posts. If you don't vote for someone else's post by commenting you will not be eligible to win.
•Winners will be chosen based on how original, creative, informative and well written their posts are, as well as how well received they are in the comments. I will use the quality of comments as the main factor in judging who wins.
•There will be a slight bias towards smaller accounts but large accounts are welcome to join and compete or join just for fun and to share their old work.
•There may also be prizes for stellar comments and engagement.
•There will be 2 or more winners depending on how big the payout for this post is and depending on how many quality posts are entered into the contest.
- Please upvote generously on your favorite post in the comments below, we'd like to generate a sense much support as possible for all participants and the prize pool is still growing.
Upvote and resteem to help us raise our reward pool! And remember to comment and upvote on comments in this post please to show support for deadposts! :-)
The prize pool will be half of the post payout or at least $10
I'm still looking for SP delegation to offer some payout on all submissions. If you can help, please let me know :-)
This is not merely a contest, this is an opportunity to have your material read and an opportunity for us to really discuss each other's posts.

Must be rewarding to finish such a long project with your own bare hands! My uncle has crafted a self-designed, wooden, hand made mirror, and he stopped counting his work hours above 2000 hour mark... I have a huge admiration for crafters who put so much love and effort into their work.

Your comment made me smile, @celestal. I think you just described the way most artists feel. Regardless of form (sculpting, painting, photography, crafting, etc.) we need to suspend our awareness of the time investment and stay focused on the desired end result. I've seen some postings in our #NeedlworkMonday group wherein the artists worked for years on a project. It is truly amazing. It feels so Renaissance.

Your lamps are simply beautiful :c) If I had not seen the in-progress images then I would have had a much harder time to associate with the crafting process - and your sharing it really added to the depth of my appreciation of your handiwork - which is impeccable.
The style is also hard to describe but very pleasing to the eye. It takes me back in a way - while remaining rooted in the present.
Thank you for sharing this. It gets my vote. :c)

Those are truly amazing lamps @crystalize. The post itself is very well laid out with a nice mix of writing and photos. I at first thought you had just added the bead strands to an already fabricated lamp, but as I read your article the truth came out. Definitely a lot of work there. Great that you were able to repurpose some items in it construction.
I agree that this post should have got more recognition than it did.

Nice post. It is so important for more people to see "criminals/prisoners" are still human. All people make mistakes...Perhaps I'm biased because my husband/high-school-sweetheart is a convicted felon who served 10 years after being tried as an adult at 17 but I really think most people have good inside - some have just been stomped on or molded to believe they must act a certain way to survive. I think the current prison system (at least in the US) does nothing but breed more criminals...there is no rehabilitation, no hope for these prisoners. Hopefully it will change! Sharing posts like yours are definitely helping.

I agree; I believe anyone has the potential to do good or bad and environment can guide one way or the other. Some people might be affected more and some less to outside influences.
The situation in the US is definitely bad, also in most of the countries, at least in closed sections. But Norway has taken a different approach which doesn't involve sells: Criminals live in open "prisons", actually they look like a regular dormitory, where they have lots of social programs and freedom in certain limits, of course, focusing heavily on rehabilitation and prevention of future crimes. And it's been successful:
I've planned to make a blog relating to the Norway prison system but haven't got my head around it yet...

Thank you for sharing. I will definitely being going back through the rest of your series, this is an area that I want to know more about. I think you made a good point: "The way I see it, is to give the sky and the oceans the official status of a national park where experiments with weather or anything else are not permitted and not-tolerated.. " It is concerning to know how little we actually know about these chemicals, experiments, etc. we put into the air for all life to have to deal with. There seems to be little regard for what may happen to the entire ecosystem on earth.
Very enlightening post. Looking forward to reading more of your posts.

Thanks. I actually find it very important that we know as much as possible about what is going on in this area - it is a s you: all life has to deal with it. I'm not finished with the geoengineering series, yet, although what is officially known as geoengineering is more or less covered. But I don't think I have the last ot the ultimate word about it. It would do us and every living being good, if the sky and the oceans would be left undisturbed, besides every hadron collider and cyclotron on the planet should be forbidden to operate, unless the physicist prove that it is harmless, has no impact at all and personally reliable for any consequences.

Fascinating post, @irastra. It is obvious that you are very passionate about geoengineering and the impact it has on the planet. It seems that, in some cases, manipulation of the weather could bring great benefit. For example, creating rain in areas of drought where crops are failing and animals perish due to lack of water. However, a change in one system inevitably creates changes in others, and not necessarily for the better. In my example, other animals may move to the newly "watered" area, only to perish if humans do not continue to manipulate the weather in that same area. Those animals may have been better off where they were and, over time, could have adapted to changing conditions. It's not all that different of a chicken-and-egg argument as seen with selective animal control. Thanks for the thought provoking-post.

Ok @irastra I will have to go back and check all of the series now. I am aware of geoengineering and more than likely one of those series may make mention of the U.S. Airforce.
The post was informative and worthy of posting, but I would suggest maybe a couple of things. Start using paragraph headers if possible and also post the sources of your material.
I did look at some of your later posts in GE to see if you were doing that and it didn't look like you had.
What you post about should be more widely known and I applaud your efforts towards that end.
I also liked your 1st book review on Edward Bernays "Propaganda". I truly believe that if everyone read and understood that book the world would be a much better place.
As time permits I will try and go back to read your whole GE series.

Thanks for suggestions @sighmanjestah, I'll take them into consideration. I can't edit the posts as they are past the 7-day window, but I may make a compliation of posts with all the sources that are now in links.
Saying that only US Airforce is doing this would be misleading, it looks like more or less every state is doing it to a certain degree, but other documents of this type might be less readily available also due to other languages. It looks like humankind is jointly chopping off the branch upon which we all sit.
Thanks for liking Propaganda book review, I thought no one really read it. I agree, it might be better if everyone would read and undertood that book, but people should not react with rage on the realizations it brings.

I realize you can't go back and edit the older posts, I was just offering it as a suggestion to make the post more readable and therefore hopefully get you more aware individuals.
I reread what I said about the USAF and realized I left out part of what I wanted to say and that was the paper the USAF put out about "owning the weather". Are you familiar about this paper in your researching?
I did catch the part about saying more than likely other states are doing it and that was something I had not considered prior to reading your post.
If you haven't already submitted it in one of the earlier deadpost initiatives I'd encourage you to try doing it.
I hope you did not take offense at my suggestions.
PS As time permits I'd like to go through your obsolescence posts as well.

No, your suggestions didn't offend me, I'll use them in the next GE series post when it's finished, partly. I thought of placing the used literature links in the last post, so that the style of the posts remains the same. I tried to do it differently before but it just didn't function and then I just didn't want to spend more time correcting the mess than writing.

What Would a Less Human-Populated World Look Like?
Source
This post was unique in that it immediately attracted the antagonism of an individual with a very set and diametrically opposed opinion. It may have been one of the reasons why the post performed so poorly.
That being said, this post and the commentary that follows delves into the question as to whether there truly is no limit to how many humans can exist upon this Earth without negatively impacting us all.
As always, thank you to @whatamidoing and to everybody who posts and gives their undervalued works a second lease on life. :c)

Interesting post. I believe there is certainly a max limit of humans the earth can withstand, whether we are nearing that point or have far surpassed it, I'm not sure. One thing I do think though is that the quality of human beings on earth makes a HUGE difference in what that Max. Population would look like. If we move people into move sustainable habits and reroute our resources in more efficient ways then perhaps we could all still have a child or two if we wanted... but the way things have been going and by the way we've treated earth I think slowing the population growth is the best answer. I do have two kids of my own but that was before I became educated on these types of things... has I known better perhaps I would have made different choices.
Very thought provoking post!

Thank you @amariespeaks, both for your vote as well as your fabulously insightful comment. :c)
I would definitely agree that the question of what human population the Earth can comfortably sustain comes down to not only numbers but also the quality of living afforded.
And that leads to the question - Is it better to sustain many people in squalor or few people in abundance?
In truth I really do not have any ill feelings toward persons who (without passive-aggressive political or religious motive) opt to have more children. Those who do not know better - do not know better.
And in truth one needs to birth 'more' than two children per couple so as to contribute towards population 'growth'.
China approached this problem in a way that drew a lot of criticism (a fair portion of which was unwarranted and politically motivated). It is in part thanks to its one child policy that significant portions of the population are in a much better situation that the previous generation. Even without factoring in economic growth, distributing that to half the population would signify an increase in wealth per capita (and yes, I am aware that the population didn't halve since many people take longer than a generation to pass away).
Even with all this knowledge, there is no reason to have second guesses about having a second child. Even if it were your third you should feel comfortable to love and care for him or her as if s/he were your one and only. :c)
Thanks again!

I think a max population with the majority living in squalor sounds like hell on earth lol I'm all for living minimally and with sustainability but in a way that is comfortable and harmonious with our ecosystem - but perhaps I'm a lunatic lol those greedy ones who lust for more will always creep in and make the argument that they deserve to have a much as they want (and maybe they're right...but I doubt it)
this is hilarious. love your opinion - totally agree. I cannot comprehend the polticial or religious reasons of having 7 or 9 children.. unless you're building a farm from the ground up that provides free food to the hungry, shelter for the homeless and running a school which teaches children how to build their own farm hahaha I'm all for that religion or political party *crying/laughing face - if I knew how to insert an emoji on here*Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. It sounds like we are quite in agreement upon this topic. :c)
I personally feel that if we generally desire to live our lives beyond a certain quality of living standard, then the next consideration ought to be what population level the World can comfortably accomodate with this living standard in mind.
And this, without getting into the notion that it might perhaps be desirable to voluntarily 'not' maximize our populations. That which humans do not claim, nature shall - and nature is generally a good thing for the planet. Time to give more than we take.
As for large families - the most legitimate reasons for such tend to surround producing a loyal and cheap workforce for working the land...
These are the means by which they are able to work more land and lay a claim to it... and land is wealth - at least within a historic context.
As for those who have kids because their views say so (and particularly with the aim of gaining influence through occupation an number) - a review of their priorities may also be beneficial. ;c)
(text emojis work just fine. ^_~)

You make a very good point. Yes, culture does play a big role.
Simple life-style does too, and a simple comparison between meat eaters (such as myself) and vegetarian or even vegan individuals will show that my 'footprint' upon the Earth is greater.
Of course such mindset variances with respect to childbearing choices have an even greater impact and awareness is what might eventually turn the tide.

Through your initiative I friended one of the other contestants and that's one of the great attributes of Steemit---community.
The post I am submitting this time didn't get much in the way of monetary recognition, but it did result in some "rich" comments in the form of ongoing dialogue.
I as well would like to see this contest trend and will do my best to try and promote it.

I don't know what Jesus would say or do, especially after I've read Nag Hammadi, but peace is sure better than chaos , anarchy or war.

Long time I have not participated in this contest :D
My post is about History, the first stage of the muslim invasion of the Iberian Peninsula back in the VIII century over 1300 years ago, perfect for history and war students ;)

But I love your post that you are crying out for Whale Support and your Roomie Post. Too bad you weren't in Discord when I'm on so we could chat more @whatamidoing. Miss ya Bud. xx
