What is your top tip for staying motivated?

 - STEEMIT CONTEST - Week 2

in contest •  7 years ago  (edited)

Once again, thanks to all of you who took part in Week 1 of the competition! The winner of the contest was @big.mama (see last post).

This week’s question is:

What is your top tip for staying motivated?

Please only choose one thing. We all use different methods and tools to motivate us. So try and choose one thing which motivates you most.

For some it’s physical and others it’s mental. I would love to hear what you do to keep yourself motivated, whether it be to finish a task, to workout or whatever you need motivation for.

By sharing this it might provide some good tips for other people in the steemit community who are interested in self development. Or perhaps someone is even looking for a post like this to inspire them! More minds provide better answers!

I’ll kick this off:

For me to stay motivated I need to have a very busy schedule packed full of things which make me feel eustress. See article on what eustress is if you don’t already know.
Not only does the feeling alone keep me motivated but it allows me to not get distracted. When I have no spare time, I have to do the tasks at hand as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Example: Saturday and Sunday I did very little except eat chocolate and watch movies. Because of the weekend I thought I would take some time out to relax. I had 2 other tasks to do which were important. Did I do them!? NO! Because I had way too much time so I procrastinated the hell out of that weekend, so much so that I didn’t do them at all. I am the kind of person that only functions when they absolutely HAVE to.

So there. That’s me. What about you guys?

WHAT IS THE CONTEST:

Each week I will ask one question which is focussed on self development or progression. The idea is to inspire you, by reading other people's posts, and to perhaps in some ways help you re-focus.

RULES:

1. Upvote the post - this is the beginning of this contest and I don't know how it's going to go. But by upvoting we'll have more money to spread around.
2. Comment a direct answer to the question in the comments section
3. Comment on one other person's comment, in the comment section, with either a thoughtful question or thoughtful reply. Please avoid answers such as 'nice' 'cool' etc.

SIMPLE. The winner will receive 1 SBD for week 2.

I will distribute the money 7 days after this post has expired. You have 7 days to take part!

Good luck and do help to share the contest so we can grow it and get some cash out there to you steemians!

Excited to hear your answers to this one! Winner will get 1 SBD!
Once I gain more attraction from the post I will start to give out more SBD and also have runners up too!

One day left so I can participate properly this time round :-)

I would say being organised (maybe a little bit similar to what you said) but it's basically all about knowing what you need to do and by when. And then splitting that in smaller chunks so everything becomes more manageable and you don't feel like there is this giant project hanging over you which you still haven't started and have no motivation to do in the first place.

A good example would be from my work where I set myself and the team 2-3 quarterly goals and break them down in smaller ones (monthly or sometimes weekly) to make sure I'm on track. Organisation is everything.

Very good point, Inga. I'm actually SO jealous of your ability to be so structured and organised. I could spend every minute of my week focussing on it and would never even be HALF as organised as you. Would love to read some articles from you about how to do it and easy steps etc!

Yeah, I'll add this to my list of ideas to write about, same as about sleep - but I still need to experiment a bit more with that to give any decent advice cos I'm not great at going to bed early. Lol

A looming deadline motivates me. When I absolutely have to get something done because if I don't do it now it will never get done. Then, and probably only then, I will do it.
Sometimes I try and trick myself into thinking I've put things off way too long and they absolutely must be done now because I won't have any time later. When really I find myself with a lot of time because I rushed what I had to do and probably didn't do the best job I could. But it's done!

Hey @kieranstone, deadline really pushes us to get things done right? Let's say it's exam tomorrow, and I'm 100% motivated to study all of the chapters :P

How did you trick yourself into thinking you must absolutely get things done now? I'd like to learn some tricks from you too :)

I'm with you on that. I work well under pressure too! Such is Parkinson's Law. Thanks for your entry!

This one is true!

This makes me remember when i was in college.... I did play hard all semester.... But then, I realise that man, finals are just two weeks away, the day is so near.... I studied like my life depended on it.... Which it actually did anyway, and that fast approaching day spurs me on to success. Mad I know, but it always worked. Lol

80/20 rule - better done than perfect. I try and apply it at work or personal life all the time but I am a bit of perfectionist (secretly) so doesn't always work ;-)

Hey @yasminep, thanks for hosting such inspiring contest. It's a good place to stop and re-think these questions.

I am motivated to post daily because knowing at least 1 person could've benefited from my post and that could potentially impact his/her life at one point kept me going, non stop every day. Posting motivational/educational content daily has become my commitment and passion.

Thank you for taking part! :-) That's a great mindset to have to keep yourself posting.

Thank you @yasminep :)

This is so nice! A nice thought that keeps you motivated to contribute!

thank you @big.mama :)
My calling is just to really help people, even in the smallest way.

That's nice @tifaong - you are motivated by the outcome and how it benefits others!

Thank you @ingaaa, sometimes I'm enjoying the learning and writing process as well.

Motivation is like shower, you need it daily in order to keep us stay motivated all the time. One of the methods I prefer will be watching motivational video on youtube daily. I usually watch it during peak hour while I drive back home.

That is a great tip! Thanks for sharing it with us.

This is a cool thing to do.

Yupe, instead of getting frustrated when stuck at the traffic why not shower yourself with motivation :)

My top tip to stay motivated is this : You gotto keep moving, without you, things or people around might fall.

While this may sound like take pride in myself (sound like last week's contest which I was late to find out), but no, it isn't. I want to value others more than me. Take for example my spouse and my children, my home and my family and friends. If I stay demotivated and being sulky, it will affect them too. I always tell myself "hey it is not just about you. The world does not just revolve around you alone. Get up for the sake of others and you too will soar on eagles wings. Get on your top notch and keep on moving".

So eventually I will go all about doing my stuff with love and passion again. To be motivated to achieve daily goals. ❤

Gonna resteem this for more exposure. such a good contest.

Love your entry! Thanks so much for taking part :-) I do agree with you. We have to constantly keep moving and pushing ourselves. And thanks for the resteem too!

I guess you've had experiences where when you're down, your family members are affected as well?
But could that put extra stress on you that you should not express yourself in front of them? I'm asking so that I can understand you more :)

No, it didn't really incur more stress on me. In fact, I dare to tell them that I am abit on the low and needed some time to settle down. And they are fine with that.

It is more about if I stay demotivated then housechores undone, food not cooked on time, clothes unfolded etc. I want to make sure I stay tiptop for them and I have committed to build a complete wholesome home for my family. So whenever I think of them, I keep on going and keep on moving. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and the intention to want to understand me more :)

Oooh I see. I guess it's time to train your husband and kids to do house chores XD

No problem, we're friends on Steemit liao

So true, in a way others become your main motivation to do well :-)

For me, my biggest motivation is the fear of failure. Every time I remind myself, that slouching and being lazy won't get me ahead, and would only take me closer to where I just left, it gets me alive.

That's keeps me productive, even if they are baby steps taken.

Thanks for sharing this one @solcross :-)

You are welcome, @yasminep. Thanks for your comment, as well.

My Topp Tip is majorly relies on having good friends, friends determines a lot about me when am feeling down they help out and I help them too, we watch each others back all the time, no opportunity passes us by whether it's anew platform: Steemit, appics or new book:Millionare Fastlane, or a new govt scheme that plan to benefit all. We all keep going and never stops.

I also like knowing my friends strengths and knowing that they are there should I need their help in the same way I would do anything for them.

This is very true. Having a good support structure is key! Thanks for sharing!

Hey ☺️, I was so demotivated the last week. So I really am happy I stumbled upon your contest , cause I know what can actually motivate me , so I'm going to share with you guys 💗

First off , there are many areas where I needed motivation . First I'll talk about Studying. Ever since I joined steemit , I always get motivated to study my subjects more , so that I can make a good post about them. So I guess steemit is one of my motivation. Last week when I was so depressed , I did post about it here , and there were some good people who really helped me .

But I feel , God is the ultimate motivation giver , when I'm totally down , I try to read the Bible and get inspiration. I'll give you an example with the verse Hebrews 13: 6 - So we can feel sure and say , "The Lord is my helper , I will not be afraid , people can do nothing to me".

Then coming to exercise motivation , I usually post about my exercise journey so when I see people commenting saying good job or keep it up ,it gives me motivation , since I am in a dorm and it's like a competition for everyone , so nobody likes to do anything with anyone , everyone wants to be the number 1 , so I feel very uncomfortable doing anything with others , I am not very competitive , so I prefer doing it with myself and sharing to people who care enough to help me too.

Then also cutting alot of junk food can be very helpful , maybe once a month . Then including more veggies and fruits . And the major thing I noticed was , if I cook then I could lose weight , I don't know why. But yeah. So try to cook more than take outs.

Lastly , listen to motivating songs , Hillsong or any of your favorite band.

Hebrews 13:6 is also one of the promises i hung on dearly in my life. and of course like you said listen to some worship songs to lift me up again. Hope you are better already.

Thank you 💗☺️🙂

Hey @ashley4u! This is great and glad to hear this contest may have helped you. Seems like you have a lot of ways to motivate yourself. If you could only pick ONE thing, what would be your top tip for motivation? :-)

Hehe top would be Motivational songs , I feel like songs have a way with me. ☺️☺️

  • train with a buddy that motivates you to go the gym everyday.
  • eat clean and healthy
  • read the blogs of @yasminep :)
  • try to break your own records... (you vs you)
  • sleep and rest good.
When you start to see the difference, that will motivate you the most.

This is great @mrtitanium :-)
what would be your one top tip of all of these?

I think that if you challenge yourself, you will achieve the most results.
To motivate yourself you must have goals that you want to achieve. Challenge yourself...

  • try to break your own records :)
and ofcourse follow and read the blogs of @yasminep :)

I'm also having the same motivation way as you do, @mrtitanium. I believe having goals is one way for us to keep striving, keep challenging ourselves and keep growing. Only then, I feel truly alive.
Keep going @mrtitanium!

Thank you @tifaong. . that's realy true

That's very true. Having a clear goal is key!

I can see one of the most important one - read the blogs of @yasminep. :)

Haha yes thats really important. She is doing amazing on the platform. @iamjadeline

My Top Tip motivation is "Slow progress is still a progress".

Very true, Joanne! We definitely have to remember that when we are rushing through life.

Yes definitely :)

As long as you reach your destination no matter how much time you take :)

YEAH!!

Hahaha you have described me, thats exactly the kind of person i am.. I love it when iv got a shit load of things to do, otherwise i end up doing nothing with soo much time.
If i am to participate in this contest , i wouldn't have better words to put it than you already have @yasminep. Good luck to the contestants.

Thank you @purpletanzanite! Glad to hear i've met someone like-minded ;-)
