Nice. My first car I purchased from my parents. A VK Commodore (Berlina) in this colour scheme.

image.png

I pretty much drove that thing into the ground/

My dad had a gunmetal VL! Those cars were magical!

Except the fact that almost had a universal lock. Almost any pre 90's Holden key would unlock them.

That's probably how he got his knicked and burnt to a shell...

He was a fitter and turner, also a mechanic, he kept that car in amazing condition. They're becoming a very rare sight on the roads these days!

Very much so. It's kind of amusing to think that the cars our parents drove are becoming classics, in some cases even collectibles

My first car was a dodge shaddow. I was about 14 years old but drove that sucker around anyways.

@onefatindian get in here and win another contest :P

I have to confess, I had to look up a picture of the Dodge Shadow. Looks like a fairly economical little buzz box

The very first car I ever had was a 1966 Wolsely. It was a cherished bag of shit that cost my £125. That was a lot to me back then. Approximately 5 weeks wages. Here's what she looked like...
20181008_151743.jpg

Sorry for the crappy photo, my camera was a bag of shit too.

Nothing wrong with a nostalgic photo go with a trip down memory lane. She looks like she had some character that you just don't see in today's cars.

She looks like she had some character that you just don't see in today's cars.

Oh yes, none of that ECU, built-in sat-nav, electric windows or heated seat nonsense in thst little lady. To be honest she was awesome, especially after I up graded the engine from a 1100cc to a 1300 GT. 😁

My first car was a yellow Fiat 500 original. Long before they were trendy as they are now.

I can remember mum and I going to the garage for the first time and not being able to find the petrol tank. 😂

Nice. I have to confess when we first purchased out Nissan X-Trail I recall it took me much longer than I'd care to admit to figure out how to open the fuel door (I knew where it was). Suffice to say that when I finally figured it out, I'd been there long enough that I felt I needed to buy my fuel elsewhere

Thanks for the nomination @jeenger.

What a coincidence. My first car was also a VW Golf GTI. It was a used 2001 car I bought from my Brother-in-law in 2003. It turned out to be a real LEMON!! I only drove it for 2 years. I pored so much money into that car and wasted so much time in the shop that I vowed never to buy a VW ever again... ever.

Sounds like your Brother in Law stitched you up with this one. You don't get rid of a 2 year old car for anything other than personal financial circumstances, or the car is a complete Lemon. Hopefully you're driving something more reliable these days.

Nah, he's actually a really great guy. The reason for selling was because he'd just got married and moved to the big city where they only had 1 parking spot and didn't require 2 cars. It was a double win for my sister, (his new wife at the time) because she got to keep her car and didn't get stuck with the Lemon. lol.

My Brother-in-law felt really bad, when he found out that his car was doing so poorly.

That experience has lead me to only buy NEW cars and number 1 most important thing for me is that it must be reliable!

So far so good... :D

Oh dear, that sounds bad for VW.
I also drove the car for two years without any problems.
And I drove quickly.
But it's true that the models after 2000 were all problematic, so I went for Ford Capri afterwards. Was definitely the better car.

My first car was this 1995 Opel Astra and i loved it to bits. It was a in quite a state when I got it and I spent my student years working odd jobs to fix it up. Got me a new set rims, put in a sound system, branch, free flow exhaust and angel eyes for that mean look upfront. Smoked the fog lights.

I had it for 10 years and never bothered to ptu an alarm in, it was broken into twice but never in an accident. She was my pride and joy and took me to so many firsts. I do miss this car and have found memories of our time together

What happened to her? Do you think there is hope of you ever getting her back some day?

I sold her and gave my dad the money and a little extra so he could get himself a pickup truck, he loves trucks and I hardly drove her much in the final few years! I hope the new owner treats her well.

I do hope to get her back some day or something similiar and rebuild it as a project car

Your paths may indeed cross again. I hope it isn't like my wife's cousin who sold his first car (which he loved), but 3 weeks after he sold it, he drove past it wrecked in a ditch beside the road (the accident had happened the night before - no injuries) which broke his heart a little

Early 90s Holden Barina.... 😍 So much love. We bought this baby in Perth with Cash.
In 2004 , pregnant, I had a primal desire to return the land of my birth Sydney to have my own child. News of our intention to drive the Nullarbor Plain got back to my mother, who then paid to put it on the back of the India pacific train as as far as Adelaide. From Adelaide after a couple of weeks on kangaroo island, @azurejasper drove the coast line to Sydney. We stopped at ever water fall, look out and pie shop.
I was on a pie quest. I sampled every pie in every town from Adelaide to Sydney. I gained 27 kgs and had a 2.7kg baby. I packed away a lot of pies, but that is another story.
The trusty Barina. It didn't like hills, which in Perth wasn't really a problem, Sydney was a different story, I'll never forget getting off the m5 and hitting peak hour crazy. @azurejasper got his licence in Perth, after many weeks of driving the coast at our own pace, Sydney felt like an assault to the senses. Impatient drivers, bad roads and the occasional hill . But it never let us down.

We sold it a few years later when we replaced it with a bucket of trouble that was supposed to be a more sensible family car.
Our daughter cried when they drove her green car away. 😔

It's pretty hard to go past a well cooked, good quality pie though, so you can't be blamed for taking on what I would say is an admirable quest which can serve only to benefit pie-lovers all over Australia.

I haven't done a lot of driving in Sydney, and I'm not disappointed by that. Having learned to drive in Melbourne, there's something about Sydney that just doesn't appeal to me. Even less now that I've spent almost 16 years driving in Hobart.

I suspect we'll replace our X-Trail in the next year or two, I hadn't even considered how my daughter will react when we get rid of "Daddy's car". I'll have to make sure she plays a role in the selection process of the new wheels.

Thanks for your entry @girlbeforemirror. Good luck in the draw.

Hello @ sparkesy43, great idea, your competition! And thank you for the nomination @onefatindian

My first car was a VW Golf GTI MK1 built in 1981

In order to buy this car, I have done several jobs during my early teens.
In the morning I went to school, work at noon, evening service in a nightclub.
During the holidays I helped with the strawberry and tobacco harvest.

For two years we had a nice and unforgettable time between Germany and the Netherlands. At that time I held the record for 650 km in 3:58 hours. At that time there was little police, speed limits, traffic jams and construction sites.

And I want to nominate @poyim to share his story.

Looks like a fairly economical little machine. Back before Volkswagen started manipulating emissions data I guess? Thanks for entering.

Right, a small machine with a lot of power! But, he has already pulled 14 l in my driving style. And then there was no computer installed that could cheat.

That's a little metal beast, right there!

I didn't know you drove like a speed demon lol
Now it sounds like you slow down a bit and admire the scenery by taking photos 😀

My first car was a 1979 Plymouth Volare-Duster in red and primer. It had a slant six and a very low gear ratio rear end. I bought it from my auto shop teacher for $500 cash. My friends and I had a blast in that car!

I nominate @majornews for the card because his car was way cooler than mine.

Thanks for your entry. I love the description of the colour scheme "Red and Primer". Classic.

My first car had three pedals, and I've had her since she was new. I always wanted to drive a manual, and that was right at the top of my shopping list.

My first car is the car that I still drive today, four years after buying it (I didn't get my licence until I was 25!).

It's a Panther Black Ford Focus, and I've got a special trim model that most people know about by now, trim level STEEMIT.

It's had its share of issues, like the stereo needing its computer to be replaced, the brake pedal falling off the lever arm at 17,000KM, and burning through a headlight recently at just under 30,000 KM.

Oh, and the seat stitching tearing itself apart at my aptly named shoulder blades, but ... she's mine.

I don't drive very much, but it is so much fun to cripple automatic drivers as you overtake them while going up a hill thanks to the magic of pre-emptive downshifting.

25 isn't so bad. My wife turns 40 this year and is taking driving lessons now to hopefully get her licence by the end of the year.

My first car was a 4-door Ford Escort

And yes it was orange. But I use to call it a 3-door because 1 door wouldn't open and friends had to climb in via the window 'Dukes of Hazard' style.

It was a fun car but I couldn't wait to upgrade to my Torana :-D

PS: @mazzle totally deserves some Steem Monster Cards :-D

Thanks for the contest, @sparkesy43 - and thanks for the nomination, @rentmoney!

My first car was a 1977 Chyrsler Cordoba.

It was a BEAST of a car with a V8 engine. The power of which I have not felt in a car since lol

My dad purchased it in the very early 90s, but my older brother and I shared it and drove it around.

I miss the memory of the car... but damn, was it terrible in the winter for driving. That power!

Oh, and I would like to nominate @jeenger to share his story!

Cheers,
OFI

What an absolute BEAST of a machine. Thanks for sharing. In Australia that would be known as a "Yank Tank!"

LOL

My first car was a beat up mini! I nominate @gdwcoins for the twisted jester 🃏

The beat up mini. If you didn't own one, you knew someone who did. Thanks for entering

Thanks for the  👊 No Upvote, No Resteem, No Follow Required! support of the #ContestKings guild's whitelist policy, @sparkesy43. I nominate @buddyboyb for the other Twisted Jester card. The first car that I recall having was a grey 1963 Isuzu Bellett (similar to the one below), which we called "Suzie Belle", of course.

What a beast. That's an awesome first car. Would love to see a couple of them going around Mount Panarama. Thanks for entering.

My first car (that I bought) was a nice 2006 5-Speed Mini Cooper. Still have it today, around 165k miles on her. Drives great, haven't had to do any major work still, just the time a tree branch broke the sun roof on it :/

Mini Coop

I nominate @holoz0r for the card because I love his car's trim package

Thanks for your entry. My Grandfather always said about his car, if you look after it, it will look after you.

1969 Cougar XR7 convertible. 351 Windsor, automatic, hideaway headlights, leather seats, power everything.

  • I got a free paint job when I got t-boned. Metallic Imron paint that kind of changed colors a bit depending on the lighting.
  • I changed out the Windsor for a Cleveland. Way more power!
Also air shocks and mag wheels, 60's on the back.
  • I decided to sell it, but a guy test drove and wrecked it. The insurance man thought I had already sold it and dropped the insurance day before. So, I got $500 scrap price instead of it's original $2k worth.
  • After I joined the Navy, I was headed to Hawaii. I happened to drive by the guy who bought this and he had repaired it. And put a Windsor back in it. ::rolling eyes:: I bought it, since it was perfect for Hawaii.
  • While there I put another Cleveland back in and got Cragar wheels with Mickey Thompson 50's on the back.
  • A few months after I got out of the Navy, I got a phone call. Your car caught fire when loading it on the boat to ship back. We will give you $x I forget and you can pick it up 1500 miles away from where I lived. With a trailer, since it didn't run any more, or we'll give you $x I forget. That's the option I had to go for. It was enough to purchase a dandy little 4 cylinder Monza hatchback. ::rolling eyes::

Yes, I would buy her back 30 some years later so I could restore her and drive her in parades... It was a very cool car.

It looked kinda like this...

That is a thing of beauty. I could see it cruising around in the sunny weather, with top down. So much tragedy for one car to go through.

HD Holden. Red I think I bought it in 1975, before I got my licence for my boyfriend to drive
