“Controlled Opposition” is one of the more overused and at this point meaningless terms in our lexicon.
What it more practically-speaking means is that someone is either wealthy, influential, or famous enough to want to keep their wealth, fame and influence, and not go around stomping on enough people’s toes so that they ultimately get themselves killed… which happens all the time.
If you accept that definition then you allow people to say and do whatever they’re gonna say and do, which then allows you to more closely examine their words and the motives behind them, in order to determine for yourself what they might mean and where they might fall on a spectrum from really overt and nasty ugly assholes (common for presidents & premiers) to all the way over to expertly empathic and trying to help people (like Peterson) but not generally going so far as to risk losing their “status” within this great simulation of the world that we are all a part of… whether we like it or not.
