Hello, dear friends, so good to have you here again. You have been wonderful visiting me always especially on saturdays. It hope it has been great? I am a genius, right? Hahaha, its not as you think.
I woke up this morning and thought about you my friends. I felt hope i have not been giving you the impression that I am perfect, so i decided to make this post to share my cooking experience with you. You see me interview people who are great cooks or who enjoys cooking . But when will you interview me? You should know about my cooking story. It is not enough to see fantastic food made. I am actually making this post to let you know I make mistakes too in the kitchen. I am untalented.
MY LITTLE COOKING BIOGRAPHY
I am the first daughter in a family of eight. My parents have four males and two females .I happen to be the first female.
I started cooking at the age of seven(7) . Too early? My first made food ever was Beans. I still remember the story very well.
My parents had gone to the farm with my brothers( i never liked going to the farm). I was left at home to care for my little sibling. My mother only gave me the beans to sort out before she comes from the farm.
At a point, we became hungry and i decided to put the beans on fire. At least, i had eaten beans before so i should know when it is soft. I monitored it,and kept bringing a seed out to press and check if cooked. When done, i added pepper, salt, oil and brought in down. No onion, i was afraid of knife, hahaha. I was afraid of our stove. I didnt know where to touch in that old bottle stove. Hahaha. So i cooked with firewood borrowed from a neighbour and backyard woods
Finally, food was ready. I fed my little one and i kept the rest well covered. Funny enough, I wasnt happy and fulfilled, I was afraid I would be in trouble when mother comes.
No sooner had I finished cooking than they arrived from the farm. Mother gave me money and asked that i should buy groundnut so the family would drink Garri (cassave flakes) before she would have the strength to cook. Moving far away from her, I told her I had cooked the beans. She exclaimed! " Ye, You have wasted the beans. Who told you to cook it? Now go inside and get some in a plate, let me check. If you wasted it, we will eat it like that" . I ran inside to get the food. I knew it was as good as the one she makes- not salty, not too peppery and it was soft. But then i was afraid of another problem, you'll see.
When mum saw and tasted it, the story changed. "This is good!. You mean you cooked this food? So you can cook already at 7?" Then She added, (which was my fear.) "Oh, I see! You gave my food to neighbours to cook?"
Immediately I started crying and swore that I made it. My younger one confirmed it too. So mum drew me closer, rubbed my head and back, hugged and blessed me. I was like a queen that day in my house. Not only because I cooked but because I was initiative.
The food came at the right time, they were all tired and hungry. Since then when mother is leaving for her shop, (She was a trader) She will always say: "Make rice, when i come, i will make the stem" or "Make yam"., "Make beans", that was how I started cooking.
WHAT I WAS AFRAID OF THE FIRST TIME I COOKED
I was afraid of not cooking it well. I was also afraid how i will put it down when ready. I was afraid that the ingredients like salt and pepper wont be in the right proportion. So i added and tasted, added again, taste and add again, until it was right. Putting the food down from fire was made easy when i put out all the fire, extinguising it with water before i managed to put the food down. What an experience.
WORST MISTAKE IN THE KITCHEN
The worst mistake I made in the Kitchen was after my wedding. The staple food for people in my hometown is FUFU (Made with Cassava). But I got married to a man who loves Semolina (Now it's Wheat). So one day, after making a very good vegetable soup, I made semolina for hubby. Hey! It was too bad. I could not differentiate the Semolina from Pap. I didnt know I could pour in more semolina to thicken it. I thought if I left it covered , after sometime it will thicken or even solidify. The worse? I never went back to check again.
My husband came from work by past 11pm, so tired and hungry. He demand for his food. But when i opened the Semolina, it was a twin brother of Pap. Hahaha. Immediately I started crying. He called and called but I remained in the kitchen, crying until he came himself to ask what was going on. He saw the semo pap and there was disappointment in his face. He took the soup and left. He went to lick the soup and eat the vegetables. I came kneeling that I have never made it before. He forgave me but he said I ought to find an alternative, even if it meant making rice with the vegetables. I apologized and went to bed sobbing.
Even after many years, I made another Semolina. It was hard. I got that part but it had so much lumps in it, too much. How do I present this again to hubby after all these years? Do you know what I did? I packed it into a mortar and pounded it, hahahaha, and it came out good!
HOW I GOT BETTER
I enjoy cooking. I do not take snacks or drinking tea and bread as food. I look at them as what i should eat while waiting for food to be ready, so i cook all the time. I love asking questions, I love trying new things. I study different recipes, note them down and when buoyant, I buy the materials and try them out.
Did you know that I make mayonnaise myself? Also, I dont buy golden morn, I make golden-mornlike cereals for my kids by myself. I make their fruit drinks, lemonade, Zobo and the likes for them myself. Trying out many things really improved me
So as you visit my blog , dont only be entertained. Learn, resteem and practice, you dont know when you will be needing such knowledge.

Thanks so much @segunreus, i didnt say i dont eat them. I said i take them as something I should eat while waiting for the main food to be ready. If I find myself in a place where i cant cook i will manage anything but am sure its only for a few days. But I wonder where I cant get hotels or eatry to buy real food

Lovely cooking experience @adoore-eu,this got me down memory lane, when I started cooking I also have fears I felt my cooking won't impress anyone, but my mum got my back she always has beautiful comments to make when I cook and corrected me when I made mistakes. One of the mistakes I won't forget was when I mistook sugar for salt 😂😂, it still make me laugh when I remember.I enjoy cooking too, one thing I learnt from cooking is practice make perfect.

Hahaha, thank God, you took sugar for salt. It would have been worse if you took kerosine for water. I appreciate you and so glad you shared your experience. Thanks

Good day ma'am, seems we share the same passion in cooking, I make my Milo, my mayonnaise, funny when I cook and people taste it, they keep saying i don't look like I can cook, so they expects me to wear pepper as ear ring and tomato as lips stick for me to look like I know how to cook.....
