That's the result of a quick and easy experiment I carried out recently. I saw on a You Tube short that you could poach an egg in the microwave in a minute. As I’m not that confident when making poached eggs I gave it a try.

I should have taken a photo when I cut it but as I like my egg warm I just tucked in !
When I started making the egg I wanted to make sure the toast was ready at more or less the same time. As I was using a frozen slice of bread I started the toasting process first.

I poured the egg carefully into the measuring jug with about 3/4 of a cup of cold water :

I then put it in the microwave for 1 minute only.

When that was over I was very surprised how perfectly round the shape of the egg looked. I believe this was a very fresh egg because normally you get wispy bits in the water.
Taking the egg out of the water was a bit harder than expected. I let some of the water out really carefully and then I eased it out of the measuring jug using a straining spoon.
I then laid it carefully on top on my butterless piece of toast as you can see in the first photo.
Here’s the short video if you would like to try this :
I checked afterwards and there were many other videos giving similar information. One of them specifically recommended the water should be hot. I may try that at some point but this egg poaching method worked just fine.
